Is RNCOX worth holding?
After looking at the M* 1 and 3 year numbers on this fund with its ER of 2.22%, I wonder if it's time to give up on it. It was once recommended as a core holding, but I'm not sure it's worth its cost.
Is anyone holding it with confidence?
I have reasonably positive views on Mr. Cinnamond. I made money on ARIVX; and , when he liquidated the fund because he couldn't find any small cap stocks worth buying, I decided that I would try to limit my new purchases until he reentered the game.…
I only stop by occasionally, but I want to add my condolences on Ted's passing. His multiple postings almost always had something of value among them, and flat days were never truly flat. I suspect the site will be a bit smaller, unless others step …
I'll probably regret joining this thread, and I agree with a lot of the comments, especially those that question the contributions of those who inherit wealth to providing benefit to the nation ( I know some Rockefellers have served, but I don't rec…
While I haven't checked in for a few months, this is the most disorganized polemic I have recently seen. I'm sure someone will surpass him in the future, but this is American Pie or MacArthur Park without the lyricism. (I liked both of those, FWIW.)…
While the young lady cited as an example in the article is an outlier, I would not advise one of my children or grandchildren to omit college, but I DO think that trade schools are a reasonable alternative. (The society which scorns excellence in pl…
All I have to say after reading the article is that I admire the framers of our constitution even more. Limiting the president to a 4 year term might limit the harm she or he could inflict, while allowing a successful performer to repeat their succe…
Wow!
Since we seem to be operating in data free space, I do hope that anyone voting on my behalf is considering the US citizens, which includes the consumers buying cheap Chinese made products and the workers whose incomes are reduced by the pressur…
My understanding of tariffs is that they are instituted to protect local industries (not working too well for farmers and several others currently) or to reduce trading with undesired or misbehaving partners (as Jefferson attempted with Great Brita…
It's very hard to argue against FMIJX, but I've usually planted a foot in the door of closing funds in case they continued to out-perform. This has not been markedly successful, but it's more due to my lack of attention (or additional funds to inve…
Interesting that they cite Professor S lauding TRP (a firm I actually like), which happens to be the most expensive on the chart. Since Vanguard is 0.5% x 20 (25, 30 yr?? [optimists live longer] cheaper, I'll take my 10, 12.5 or 15% to good cheap re…
I've watched this board for years and seen multiple threads come and go, but this is the fund I've chosen for my grandchildren (who need no bonds) and for my RMDs since my family history of dementia suggests I shouldn't rely on my fund or stock-pick…
An honest politician is one who, when he is bought, will stay bought.
Thought I'd start this diatribe with a grabber.
There is a "sugar lobby", and they demonized fat and salt, and they bought legislative support. I'm not favoring fat, but choleste…
My limited number (fortunately) of bond funds have done poorly this year, and MCRDX took a vicious hit today, losing over 1% (the East has certainly turned red for now).
Soooo, what's the opinion on floating rate funds? I was happy with FFRHX until…
While I am with Fido because it seemed the best option of my 403b, I expect to to move most of the funds to Vanguard when I retire. (Interestingly, the university forcibly moved a significant portion of my money from Fido to Vanguard 2 years ago. Wh…
My brother, a veterinarian, once calculated the cost of a free puppy for his 4-H advisees. It was not trivial, but you received unconditional love.
If you don't have a 15 year life expectancy, don't get a free puppy (or a pure bred, if that's your …
The actively managed funds require $50K, but I'm not sure about the index funds. If you can access the index funds directly, do so, but you might want to keep enough in the target fund to allow you access to their allotments, so you could rebalance …
Berkshire has underperformed the S&P for the last 10 years.
He missed on Amazon and Google (as did I), and I would have bought Facebook at 18, when it was a bit above that, but, unfortunately, it failed to drop.)
I can accept that a fund manage…
Hate to be missing the Trump bump, but Cinnamond isn't buying, so far as I can tell. (My legacy accounts have enough for the next ten years.) RBS is finally doing well, and I think TEVA will work out. GE will probably work out over a few years, so…
Observation without interpretation: When I was ordering my annual T-shirt selection (this year from "Catalog Favorites"), the only one on back order (more promised soon) was "Elect a clown - Expect a circus", so I settled for the more obscure "Not m…
My university employer recently sold most of my Fidelity funds (I was limited to TIAA or Fido, I chose Fido) and placed my money in Vanguard index funds (not previously available and probably not the best time to invest in index funds), but all my E…
I've been disappointed also. Parked a moderate amount in the fund while awaiting the correction that hasn't come and have lost a couple of hundred bucks (according to my TDA account) so far, while their TDA graph shows a steady slow increase as a …
Although I have PONDX and DSENX (happily), I think adding a healthy dollop of WMVFX will add to long term satisfaction. I don't want all my equity holdings in N. America. If one chooses to view Social Security as a bond holding, as John Bogle once …
FNMIX has made me money, but it does move more with EM stocks (FNMIX is in my 403b offerings, and I'm back in moderately), and MCRDX was recommended here. It's Asia based and only $17M acc to M*. Looks to be up 7% since opening. I put all my uninve…
Thanks, johnN.
Not sure why you posted this or where you found it, but the M* ratings are generally positive (3****, 1 ***), and all seem to be above 30%tile over time. Since I have a residual 403b with TIAA , although the university (and business s…
Back to multiple paragraphs ago: I don't think DCA into market that is (probably) overvalued is a wise strategy. I read the latest Cinnamond Absolute Investing blog, and I wish I had his millions (so I could feel good about a Starbucks latte, and wa…
Democracy consists of choosing your dictators, after they've told you what you think it is you want to hear.
Alan Corenk
I hadn't seen this one before, but I came across it while looking for the author of "In a democracy everyone gets the government…
While it's difficult to do so at my age, I'm watching Eric Cinnamond and reading his Absolute Value blog. So I'm taking profits and trying to make myself sell my losers (much more difficult). New money from my 403b sits there glaring at my failure t…
While I think stocks would have risen, regardless of who was elected, I also read Eric Cinnamond's blog, so I try to keep my finger off the "buy" trigger (OK, I bought XAR; so far, so good, but I feel guilty).
I think the real question now is wheth…
I bought DLENX and DSENX near the offering date and am still negative on DLENX although positive on the combo.
This seems to offer global bonds and European stocks. Correct me if I'm wrong. Global bonds, I understand. European stocks in the time of…
@davidmoran - what do you think the future holds for FNMIX? I'm up and hate to sell, but I respect your opinion. In PONDX and PDI with a smaller IRA, but 403B is with Fido.
Of course, it helps to know which end of the horse is selecting the investments.
Seems I have a horse in most of these races. Should I divest if they win?
My experience with the American Funds choices (no load, presumably) which my university 403b plan forced me into in place of the former TRP options hasn't been a success, although I'm sure the B-school professors meant well with their choices.
Whil…
While I know I'm a one trick pony, for my grandchildren and children's investments that I'm funding, I'm using VMVFX. ER 0.27. It trailed the S&P this year, but doubled its global stock peers, according to M*. The track record is short, but Vang…
I blinked at that comment; presumed it was a misquote or misunderstanding, or a way of telling them they would never achieve his level of performance. I took a speed-reading course in high school, which might have made me a bit faster; but I'm presu…
Presuming that you have to use Fido funds, why not FISMX? 5* at M*. It's separated a bit from its index on M*, and the manager has been there 2 yr during part of the overperformance. I'm trapped in Fido for my 403B , so I don't ignore their 5* funds…
