Is RNCOX worth holding?
After looking at the M* 1 and 3 year numbers on this fund with its ER of 2.22%, I wonder if it's time to give up on it. It was once recommended as a core holding, but I'm not sure it's worth its cost.
Is anyone holding it with confidence?
If you have a long term investment plan, it doesn't matter much when you enter the market. But, seriously, do you think investing all your money in this market is rational? While timing the market may be for fools, fools are occasionally ingenious. …
I like MCRDX for bonds and VMVFX for stocks. Both reviewed here in past issues. Read the analysis and do as you wish. I did buy PONDX recently, however, which many would view as a "sell" signal.
If you are in your early sixties, unless you have seri…
Giannini may have been a mover when it was shakin' (cf Wikipedia), but he seems at least as honest as the guys in Charlotte. If you can't wrap yourself in the flag, call yourself something of America (or buy the name).

Elan financial services will manage the Visa card, and it has quite a few disgruntled (mostly former) customers commenting in 2015 on a review site found via Google. I didn't check out other providers, and I know happy users don't comment, but I wo…
Agree, but VMVFX has to work for the underfunded among us, and it only costs 0.1 more. Sound premise; short track record. I'm counting on Vanguard to watch its active managers for me in my senility and my grandchildren in their inattentiveness.
This is in "Fund discussions"????
Seems so far off topic as to merit a separate category, such as "wgaf", but that's just most of the sentient universe (and little ol' me.)

While it may be good marketing to project to 105 yr life expectancy, take a look at your client. Is she/he pudgy, exercising, on a Mediterranean diet?
The current generation's life expectancy is less than their parents. A logical governme…
Since I bought in for #5 above and early enough that I am still (barely) positive, I empathize with Ralph. The money I took out in anticipation of a correction big enough to invest in has retained more value than the fund. (Correction wasn't big eno…
The best quote I've seen applying to Mr. Herro (with whom I am invested - or gambling): "You're entitled to your opinion, but not to your facts." I'm old enough to see that climate change is occurring, and I worry about my grandchildren, but I'm not…
Agree with Sven. 0.3 ER trumps almost any succession planning in a fund costing 2 - 4 x more.
All my future deposits for children and grandchildren go to VMVFX unless something glaringly better comes along (and it will most likely be from Vanguard).…
Just signed up for the Sallie Mae card for the Amazon and grocery benefits. PenFed card pays 5 % for gas (and 50,000 mi/yr mounts up) and 3% at grocery stores, but the 5% at Amazon may reduce the cost of my purchases originated thru MFO for various …
The more I look at VMVFX,with a 0.3 ER, global scope and active management, the more convinced I am that it is the fund for the money I invest for my children and grandchildren, even with its short track record. I thank MFO for bringing it to my att…
The more I read, the more I think VMVFX (and maybe a bond fund, if one doesn't want to view SS payments as a bond.)
I look at fees as a percentage of what I earned that year. If I pay 1% and earn 5%, I pay 20% of earnings. (VMVFX still costs me >…
FWIW, Humana is the most difficult insurer to deal with as a provider in southern AR. Specialists in my locale are refusing it more than any other. I'm opting out after December. Hope this doesn't mean Aetna plans to adopt their referral approval pr…
Big pharma seems to have done very well under the current patent system, and bad things are happening to the prices of many generic drugs over the past 2 to 3 years from my personal observations. The argument for outrageous prices for some newer dru…
I thought I read that cancelling old credit cards, even if unused, might shrink your total available credit and worsen your credit score. I think I'll keep them in their inactive or minimally active state. So long as I use them once a year and pay t…

Does anyone besides me think this initial paragraph sucks? Even a mediocre phenom exceeds theses stats.

Basically, has the smart money left or the dumb money left? If the former, you're a timer, and a relatively poor one at that; if the latter, what's your goal?
YACKX, in which I have a modest amount, bounced very well after 1208. If I think a signif…
While I tried to make sense of this link, it seems to say that the "market" is reliant on the "bigger fool" hypothesis for further highs. I'm trying to decide if I should sell my value buys even if they are under water.
OTOH, VHCOX and VPMAX are pos…
Some "executive" (so close to "executioner', and not far removed from "enabler") got a bonus for this maneuver to save a few (million?) dollars.

I suppose this is unsympathetic, but one doesn't always profit from buying while hearing cannons. I don't know if the investors in these funds realized their risk, but it seems unfair to expect foreign courts to make these funds whole. The fund mana…
If I have done my math right, $3Tx0.01% = $3B, which equals a low load and enough money to hire very good employees. 1,000 at $1M/yr leaves you $1B for expenses. I'd work for that, even 80 hr/wk.

Since I think most company officers vote for measures that increase their income, I routinely vote against them with my proxies. I also presume that the independent directors, usually selected by other directors, are beholden to the board and the co…
Admittedly making some possibly unfounded assumptions, $1.5B x 8.5% = $127.5M cash to lend, while making a few pence on the ETF management. Looks like a pretty good business plan to me, and, if they can only make 4.7% on the cash, they match the .4%…
The discussion seems to have become sufficiently tangential for me to chime in.
The idea that lack of competition enhances profits, so long as one (and one's competitors) produces a desired product, is obvious. If mutual funds don't impede the tacit…
Gasoline for the fire.
As one who will pay the higher tax (willingly; this is a great country in which to live) on my retirement income, I see people five days a week who can't make ends meet on their SS income and would gladly trade places with th…
A couple of peanut gallery comments (older definition of PG): One might be equally suspicious of any prognostication lacking the adverb ("may"), considering the accuracy of such headlines. He probably could have skated with "why you might not..."

Well, there was FBIOX and JNJ.
When a bad employment report brings a green day, presumably because the Fed won't raise interest rates so soon, I really hope I can tell when to jump off the train.

I sorta quit attending to the lyrics after the first Confederate Railroad album (not a bad one in the bunch), although I liked a lot of Billie Joel, but the denizens of fly-over country might check out the Susan Werner "Hayseed" album (especially "P…
IF you believe that this is the time to enter the market, POGRX offers low cost, some international exposure ( I haven't gone back to look to see if they are more internationally oriented when the situation dictates) and, according to M* has consist…
As someone who once used a slide rule with moderate efficiency (might have had one or two pocket protectors), all I have to say is "Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket."

Since I wouldn't expect anyone to take my word for it, search "recommended blood pressure over 80." Might want to back off a bit on those drugs.

Bought a bit of WOOD several years ago, I think about the time GMO recommended forests. Up 45+%, which is so-so, but it takes a while to make a tree. Don't know what I would do now. WY looks like it has a good dividend, but the rating services at TD…
I haven't read the links here, and I may have only skimmed some of the posts, but I am nearing the end of my career, and I have been delivering primary medical care for almost 40 years. I was (am) a National Merit Scholar and I was in the top 2% of …
