Congratulations, it sounds like you survived many layoffs and landed a comparable job.
I have heard too many stories of ex-Kodakers (with fewer or no marketable skills) taking a massive pay cut (e.g. 40%) to remain employed in Rochester, perhaps i…
@MikeM I agree 100%, except that it's difficult to find consistently good performing active managers in the international, EM and small cap areas as well. I still like active managers for bonds.
Difficult loss on national TV last evening. I'l…
Apologies, the symbol is actually BPLEX. BPLSX is the first symbol I saw when I (am I allowed to say goolgled?) the name.
Are the snide comments really necessary?
Three further comments on my "actionable advice" posting
1. Didn't mean to suggest that people should limit their comments to "actionable advice". That's simply what I'm looking for and is easier to distill than "I like this, or don't like that (…
@Old_Skeet My earlier comment may have (unintentionally) come off as being critical and I apologize for that. What I meant to say is that I appreciate all comments made in this forum and incorporate them into my decision making process.

@rjb112 Thought provoking comments, indeed. On this board, I look for well reasoned actionable advice. @Old_Skeet 's comments as reasoned from the streetsmartreport.com commentary seem to qualify, but I didn't take any action as that commentary does…
@Ted Although I do miss the "old" Ted, I do appreciate the contributions you make to this forum. You present articles from which I can draw my own conclusions as opposed to unsubstantiated buy or sell fund recommendations (which tend to have a 50% …
@Crash True dat Many familiar names from this board in that article. Take MFLDX for example, half of us will be right about it and the other half wrong.
@Ted I gave Mohamed a try when he was at PUBDX. Problem was, he was able to "go anywhere", but he went to the wrong places. Probably a better academic than a fund manager.
@Ted I don't listen to anything Morningstar says. Wasted too much time and money performance chasing their 5 star funds. This is not a personal attack on your or your postings.
@JohnChisum (Oct 19th post) Yes, an individual investor certainly may move more nimbly than a manager of a long/short or managed futures fund. But, as an individual investor, I seem to have a good deal of trouble calling market tops and bottoms to…
Memo to Art: What do I do if WTI stays below $80? Rises above $80? How long should I wait after WTI passes the $80 trigger before I implement these strategies?
I purchased my EVBAX load free at Fidelity. I don't index bonds because I believe I can find active managers who add value. Hope I didn't make a mistake here.
I generally agree with the theme of this article. Does anyone find that they can uncover active managers who add value in more "obscure" areas of the market such as international small cap and alternatives (e.g. long/short and managed futures)?
Art's comments have no relevance to my style of investing and, in my opinion, his research methods are dated. That having been said, I enjoy hearing his take from time to time.
EVBAX is down nearly 3% more than it's (Lipper) category average in the last month (challenging market environment). I realize that one month is a very short period of time and will hold. Any thoughts?
@scott We may disagree on this, but, at least for his larger funds, I'd view Cliff's performance as mixed. And these funds are all relatively new, with only 1-3 year performance records.
Thanks Ted, but I'm pretty much done betting on the mutual funds world's best kept secrets. Pretty much a 50/50 crapshoot. Yes, a 10 year beat its peers performance record is impressive, but how long will it last?
@JohnChisum I hold a position in the PIMCO Managed Futures fund PQTDX I haven't read or heard anything about PIMCO that would persuade me to sell or reduce this holding. But, aside from PIMCO, managed futures aren't for everyone.
Bill Gross depar…
