Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Of course over the years, aside from the admission tests, course exams are also becoming obsolete. However, what I find more interesting on so many college campus' today is that conservative viewpoints, professors, and outside speakers are not welco…
Right now, I am much higher than your neutral at ~ 30% cash, but have been wondering whether to go higher. Gut is telling me a big hit is imminent, but my gut in the past hasn't been very clairvoyant.
I would say gold is more of a hedge against fear and possibly rising inflation. Maybe you should look at something like HDGE and see how that floats your boat.
Putin has been consolidating power recently, and a less united Europe plays into his hands. This is probably my biggest fear. I think the folks arguing to leave were sold a bill of goods, and are suffering near term buyers remorse. The larger impa…

Maybe I missed it, but it doesn't seem to take into consideration the time period for which one would be living the life of riley. Retiring at age 35 vs 55 and the applicable years in retirement are quite different.
@MFO Members: Reestablishing a position in FTR. Inproved earnings and outlook for remainder of 2016 and 2017 plus nice 7.5% dividend for income , in the Linkster's opinion warrant a buy.

Geez, I sure would like to take a late 60's machine down the on ramp at the nearby interstate and just slam through the gears with a close-ratio 4 speed to run fast for the next 4 or 5 miles.
Me too, I will always miss those muscle ca…
I use both Chrome and Safari on my iMac. Definitely do not trust explorer as that browser has been widely exploited globally by the malware contributors.
I was not suggesting the US is anywhere near Greece, but we have serious structural issues that keep getting kicked down the road and if go unaddressed could put us in Greece-like position. When that would happen, I don't know, but it does concern …

My wife is 5 years younger than me, and her earnings when she worked were much lower than mine. Our thought is for me to defer taking my SS to 70, she claims half of mine at her FRA when she turns 66, and then she can move to her own at 70 if gre…
I am 66 and will defer SS as long as possible (to age 70), but in the event of another big market meltdown, I can always take it sooner. My wife and I can probably live comfortably off our portfolio alone until 95, but we also want to leave somethi…

I currently do not have any tips, and was considering adding a small position as well, but not sure whether to go with short, intermediate or long term.
I'm a strong believer in Honda products, excellent quality/reliability, fun to drive, and are constructed to be safe. I'd go for an Accord, and as a second choice Toyota Camry.
I dumped my PAUIX stake the other day, and was thinking of adding it to my RPHYX holding. Given the current churn, does anyone see an issue with adding new $s to RPHYX?
I am thinking that same thing, and heck, interest rates have not yet hit any real upswing. The question is will they soon or is this recent bout of selling premature selloff? Its a dilemma, as I am still not buying that the economy is as rosie as …
I can't add much about wireless models, and although I am not currently using any headphones, I've owned Sennheiser's for many many years and concur that they provide great sound/$ value.
I haven't been on that much lately, and am mostly a lurker. I always enjoyed Ted's links, but also miss the Funds Boat report that Catch issued weekly that seemed to be quite maligned by Ted.
