Sorry, David. I wasn't listening. Did you mean something like this?
I refused to PAY for entry back in Springfield into a tax-supported public Park, too. You're such a prig, you know?

@Crash, especially in the case of public parks, Republicans have been cutting park budgets for thirty years, forcing the park managers to enact entrance fees and raise them time after time. That's the price we're all paying (elections have consequences). So yeah, that's your choice and your principle, but please realize why it's that way.

I don't know about libraries generally, but they may run into budget shortfalls and have to add or raise fees to stay open. The library where I live is a city gov. property but has both a friends group and a foundation that raise money for it. A lot of money, and that's what it takes to be free for the public, even in a town that totally supports libraries and education.

I agree with @AndyJ on public parks. They charge a few bucks here and there to cover extra services they provide. When I was active with the local hiking club, we donated our time to cleanup and rebuild the trails. With a dozen or more able bodies, we get lots accomplished for the public. As for entry fees, they are small comparing to Disneyland there park and you can purchase a year-long pass for unlimited access. Recently I purchase a senior Siliver Pass (lifetime for one fee) for all the unlimited National Parks and National Monuments.
  • @AndyJ and @Sven.
I understand, yes. The Repugnants are largely to blame, going back decades to uncle Ronny Ray-guns, perhaps even before.
  • @Sven: Same here in my neck of the woods. Worked on a walking path, the SHT, from the WI border through Duluth, MN and on to the Canadian border. Nearly all of the work has been done by volunteers and donations. So far there are no fees to access any of its 300+ miles and hopefully it will remain so.

    BUY-SELL-WHY:
I have a sell limit-order to replace BHB with BLX. Change of pace! BHB is fading. I wanna hold onto some goodly profit before it drips away.
  • @Crash First comment, now I know the definition of (prig), thanks.
Second , "take some profit" & enjoy a DVD from the library!

    Happy Holidays, Derf
  • If I remember correctly, GOP wanted to privatize National Parks. Then it would indeed be like Disneyland.

Maybe turn Greenland into a privatized National Park?
  • Good idea... then charge Greenlanders any time they move from one part of the park to another. Or maybe even put up tall metal fences to keep them from moving around at all.
  • Purchased 4 and 5-yr treasuries on the secondary market (~4.4x%) in taxable account on Tuesday.
  • How about a new thread for buy/sell for 2025?

And we can make Greenland pay for the fence....just we did with Mexic...uh...wait a sec...

@Art, excellent idea, would you like to start the 2025 thread?

Maybe a little late in the cycle, but kicking off positions in SHYG and CLOZ.
Weighing INPFX vs. WBALX, will add to one or both.

Sold a part of of my position in UPWK after a huge run up.

Observation: This thread is veering into politics. Aren't there different threads for that and doesn't that defeat the purpose of this thread?

Oh, sure, or maybe anyway, and if so, in this case gladly.

    But

// a self-righteously moralistic person who behaves as if superior to others.

It's easy to behave 'as if superior' to someone who pisses at the common good and social contract, and the 'self-righteously moralistic' charge probably includes a lot of projection, I would bet.

Others have explained the public park thing to you, and I figure the public library advocacy / rejection thing is self-evident.

NOW back to "BUY, SELL, WHY"

Sold some VOO on the 24th to get equity back to it's target allocation.
  • Abandoned the sell limit-order on BHB in favor of a Market order this morning. The SOB just has kept falling lately with no let-up. Still managed almost 15% to the upside with it. Proceeds into BLX and with just a smidge into WCPNX. (No partial buy-shares.) Holding off on SCYB for the time being.
  • Joined @WABAC in GRID today when midday saw almost everything sag. Where is a good corset or waist-cincher company when you really need one? Many Santa Claus Rally deniers on the prowl today. OSTIX distribution day, so planning to deploy more cash on Monday or Tuesday.

I'm not shopping for equity yet. Soon, maybe. Thinking about FTSL for the IRA.I might go to 60% short-term bonds for the IRA for a while. Never thought I'ld be saying that.

  • Closing out big position in ASGI. Love the income, but the recent spike in ROC is concerning ... which could be related to the fund assimilating MFD this fall, but I'd prefer to watch it for a while and perhaps move the $$ elsewhere.

Smallish nips of NSRGY & FLO. Like the X girlfriend or wife you can’t quite get over. Happy New Years guys. Thanks for keeping this thread running. I don’t mind wading through multiple pages at all to read the latest..

@WABAC: cash I have on hand will go almost entirely to OSTIX and CBLDX although I have not ruled out CB’s Nordic fund. Now that CLF has fallen 10%+ from where I bought it, I may try to double the position tomorrow. Josh Brown on CNBC said to anticipate tax-loss selling and he was right. I could have exercised patience.
  • Another tiny nibble, adding to ET. Now 6.65% of total.
  • Order for a 500s starter position in BKH fired this afternoon.

    yup

  • My Utilities stocks along with Tech were my best performers in 2024. It will be hard to rebalance as I will want to ride the trend as long as I dare. Of late I see some of my Energy stocks starting to finally see an uptick.
  • In my IRA, I sold off DODIX and added to an ever expanding mound of dry powder in SWVXX whose principal value is unconcerned with interest rate fluctuations.

In taxable, GSIHX and SGPG were sold. I added 10% to existing holdings in SCHD, DIVO and UTF, and plugged the balance into BSBSX. This added to my overall distribution income, while also adding to dry powder in my taxable account.
