Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
I've posted the following comments in another thread—they're included here for your convenience. Another good week for the country!
The Trump administration attempted to illegally deport a group of migrant Guatemelan children (ages 10-17) in the dead of night over the Labor Day weekend. A federal judge issued a temporary restraining which halted these deportations. Is this what our country has become—we're now using children as political pawns?
"In their complaint on Sunday, the National Immigration Law Center and Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights said the deportations would be a 'clear violation of the unambiguous protections that Congress has provided them as vulnerable children.' The complaint said that in Guatemala, the children 'may face abuse, neglect, persecution, or even torture, against their best interests.'"
"Schwarzenegger was the Republican Governor from 2003 - 2011. These taxes and fees did not change."
Yes, he was. And he got my vote multiple times. A good and decent man. We could sure use a lot more like him in the Republican rabble today.
The reverse is true as well—find me Clinton or Kennedy Democrats, and I’d vote for them. But today’s Democrats can’t even define what a woman is, they support men competing in women’s sports, they’ve allowed millions of illegal immigrants into the country (including criminals and terrorists), and they’ve spent billions housing them in hotels. Meanwhile, Democratic politicians—like those in Chicago—refuse to get crime under control. They had no problem deploying the National Guard to protect the DNC convention, but won’t use it to protect their own citizens and claim there is no problem.

"Gold is hitting new highs and silver is having its moment. Silver has surged past $40 an ounce for the first time in 14 years, climbing nearly 40% year-to-date. These twin rallies underscore the enduring value of precious metals as a hedge against economic and political uncertainty".
BS1000, economic and political uncertainty. Get it?
1) Are you concerned about recent inflationary trends and the impact on your investments?
2) Donald J. Trump was reelected in part by promising to help the middle class. Instead, his policies have exacerbated financial disparities by disproportionally benefitting the very wealthy. Is this good for the country as a whole?
3) Will you be engaged in efforts to rebrand the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act for your president?
4) What have your sources stated about the latest developments regarding the release of the Epstein files?
From Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from an American.
"In 2024, Trump ran on the argument that Democrat Joe Biden had not adequately addressed inflation—although the U.S. managed the post-pandemic inflation spike better than any other developed economy—promising that he would make prices come down 'immediately.' Instead, his tariffs and deportations have sent inflation upward again, and the budget reconciliation bill he forced through Congress is already pushing people off their healthcare insurance and threatening the survival of rural hospitals."
"The law Trump and the Republicans dubbed the 'One Big, Beautiful Bill Act' is profoundly unpopular, with about two thirds of Americans opposed to it. So today, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio, and Trump political director James Blair met with Republican congress members to tell them that people will come to like the law if 'they completely rebrand it and talk about it differently.'”
"The nonpartisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities notes that under the law, a family earning less than $50,000 a year would get less than $300 in tax cuts in 2027 while losing access to Medicaid and food assistance, while a filer earning more than $1 million would receive about $90,000 in tax breaks. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the 10% of Americans at the bottom of the economy will lose about $1,200 a year."
"Trump’s policies are working well for his family, though. Angus Berwick of the Wall Street Journal reported that the Monday launch of their WLFI cryptocurrency netted them about $5 billion on paper. Today Eric Trump launched American Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency mining company; Kyle Khan-Mullins and Dan Alexander of Forbes reported today that he is now worth at least $3.2 billion."
"Trump has reason to be afraid of the American people for another reason, too: they want to see the files from the federal investigation of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, especially now that they know Trump is mentioned in those files. Speaker Johnson dismissed the House early for its August break this year to avoid having to deal with the demands of members for the release of the files, but now Congress is back in session and the demands are right back on the table. Trump has tried to stop Republicans from asking for the files by warning such a demand would be seen as a hostile act against the administration."
Dems and Reps are both screwed up, but it's certainly not so that they are equally screwed up. Repugnants sold their souls decades ago and are no longer a legitimate Party. They are acting in bad faith on The Hill and in the WH. Play-acting at gov't while disemboweling our democracy.
