Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
GISYX and BCSVX are also some good options.
You haven't indicated what are you looking for: small, mid or large cap? Growth vs Value? Taxable vs non-taxable accounts?
Large Blend, both, IRA and Taxable accounts. Thanks for those 2.
It was a nav buy for me. There are other share classes available, plus the A shares can be purchased with no sales load on some mutual fund platforms. I believe you can buy it commission free and without a transaction fee at Fidelaity. I'm not su…
Hi guys, Things are crazy ... yes?
Currently, based upon the metrics of Old_Skeet's market barometer it scores the S&P 500 Index as extremely overbought with a reading of 120. With this, I'm not putting any new money to work on the equity side…
GMO has been saying EM will out preform for years.. Eventually by the roll of the dice they will be right I guess. I think they base a lot of their opinion on valuations. This outpreformance may eventually be is true but the only thing Brazil is ou…
The book by Jane Byrant Quinn is called "How to make Your Money Last" - great book, comprehensive yet simplifies the overall approach.

REIT's are a valid asset class and can certainly be used in a portfolio. Of course you can post this on the Boglehead board, as there are many Bogleheads that use REITS and there are a large number of Bogleheads that do not use the 3 fund portfolio.…

I have a friend who is an insurance agent in Iowa. He told me that Iowa Wellmark BCBS's experience in 2014-2015 is that people signed up, got insurance, got medical treatment and then cancelled their insurance. BCBS was out about $10 million in Iowa…

As of June 2006 total value of US Governments buildings and structures was $1.26 Trillion.
David thank you for your summary of the phone call with Teresa. I have owned MAINX since last year and also added to my position today after reading your summary (It really is a great "diversifier" against my other bond holdings). Thanks again for y…
I placed the order then cancelled it. I did not get the $1million min message. I am mulling over a position. I will report back to the board here if I buy it in the next day or 2.
I have PAUIX as about 5% of the portfolio. There are no hard fast rules re allocating these type of tactical funds. About 2 - 3 years ago Rob Arnott who manages PAUDX/PAUIX said he had all of his retirement funds in the fund, over $1m at that time.
Take a look at DEM, Wisdom Tree Emerging Market Equity (ETF). DEM holds 300 high dividend emerging markets stocks.
It was down -10.3% in 2011 against -21% for the index.
I own PAUDX and have for many years, it accounts for about 7% of my holdings. Arnott is a very talented and smart manager. I used to own Hussman HSTRX Strategic Total return but sold it early 2011. I just dug into into Ben Inker and his GMO Benchmar…
