Don't like to jump around, but losing my confidence in Int'l fund managers. Hold VWILX and MGGPX. Thinking of reducing positions and adding to VTSAX, a smoother ride. These guys did weather 2020 pretty well, but are getting beat up now. Stay the cou…
Given that they copy every thing, why would there be a false pride in using / copying western vaccines?
My wild guess is that lock downs may have little to do with vaccines and more to do with the inherent social inefficiency of a one party rule (a…
@Starchild : “I posted a pissed off thread about MGGPX recently, but held on. Good thing I did.” < — you are saying that you are glad you held on to MGGPX?
It’s down 18% YTD, may I ask why? Asking as I still own some and am wondering why.
Well,…
Sold out of MGGIX the other day as part of early tax loss harvesting for 2022. It was acting too much like a concentrated tech fund and that's not what I wanted when I bought into it.
Their 2021 Annual Report came today. Call me spoiled or misgui…
TRP Emerging Europe (TREMX) is down -86.24% YTD. 67.61% of assets in Russian stocks. Looks like you can still purchase shares if one has an inkling to do so. Schwab is only allowing redemptions.

My original thought was not to add another foreign fund, but swap some the the two funds I hold into domestic funds. They're just more volatile for the reward.
Thanks for the input gang. Appreciate your wisdom. In 2020, I watched Heugh chart the meltdown with some strategic adds, including Zoom, Disney, etc. that paid off. I'm not really sure what he's doing now, but whatever it is, it's creating some curr…
Howdy folks,
I'm probably the oldest 'gold bug' around but no longer give it the same inflationary hedge status today as I have in the past. Bitcoin hasn't dethroned it but has reduced demand sufficiently on the margin to influence my decisions. D…
We just took a plane trip to Florida last week and didn't wear a mask on the plane. No one said anything. I'm not sure how they can enforce it anyway. I wore it for a little while in the airport, realized how awful this thing feels on my face after …
@Starchild, you must be refereing to the Kummelweck roll which has the kosher salt and caraway seeds...if in Buffalo you need to go to Charlie the Butcher's for one of these.
Come to think of it, I haven't been to Buffalo that often, last time was …
@MikeM
Near buffalo? Please enjoy a few beef on weck's for me!!
Baseball fan
Beef on weck's rule! Introduced to them at Giants tailgate when we played Buffalo. They sell them at local grocery store too (it's a rare treat--super salty!). They must…
A cute 10 minute clip. Lynch always was telegenic - hasn’t skipped a beat since leaving Magellan when it was at the crest of the wave. Is it as simple as “Buy what you know”? More appropriately what he means is : “Learn / Research / Study” before …
The card market is crazy right now. I was a collector years ago and held on to some stuff. I sold a few things recently for crazy profits including a Peyton Manning card I bought for $20 and sold for over $400.
Just my two cents, but I doubt most of these int'l value funds will ever beat the S&P over the long run. Corporate culture is different here in the US; more greed, leading to more production, profits. Think Pfizer, Apple, Amazon, etc.
Consider Vanguard's Wellesley fund, VWIAX. I found it good advice taken from this board and elsewhere. The times it took a hit, it bounced back quickly over the fund's duration. I hold it as growth and income in the portfolio, swapping out of PIMIX.
Looks like JASSX is available at FIDO with $2500 min, but a $49.95 fee. JASVX is available NTF at ETRADE, $250 min.
The time to pick the low hanging fruit was 8 months ago (says Captain Hindsight). So do you still buy/add to these higher risk …
I have the same reaction. I could never hope to stay on top of so many funds. I use the KISS principle. Granted, my asset total is more than likely much smaller than the rest of you. So keeping things simple is easier for me. I understand selling, i…
Not a particular judgement on the funds, but simply matter of not wanting to pay taxes because of all my put income this year. Some of them have indeed stunk up the place, though. In a market they are supposed to excel, they have been found wanting.…
Let's say we're having this discussion in 2000. You'd be staring ahead at a lot of pain for 10 years, while your home and those interest payments are secure. Just sayin'.
I was fortunate to pay off my mortgage early (in my early 40s). I understand the whole rate of return thing, but it's really nice knowing I don't have that payment anymore, esp if anything happened and no one could pay it, and that, aside from taxes…
Thanks for posting FD. PIMIX has been a thorn in my side. I believe 12/18 was the time the fed began raising rates in which the fund began to get hit, and still hasn't recuperated. Of course, at that time, I lump summed some money into it (who says …
Just checked out the holdings of VWIGX, Vanguard INTERNATIONAL Growth Fund. How are Tesla and Amazon considered international equities?
Because they have massive markets outside the US, and are smart enough to invest in them in the portfolio. It's n…
I'm not a doctor, but during the pandemic, three doctor friends I trust all told me to get these drugs, and gave me prescriptions, just in case the s--t goes down and you can't get them anymore, because they work as a treatment. fwiw.
