MFMPX (Morgan stanley) is a decent option. I sold out of it last year (and WAFMX) and purchased MEASX.
It is an OEF that is certainly worth consideration if FM does well. I would have no issue getting back into it; it is still on my watch list.
Junkster,
I am referring to many, not all, various forum participants who seem to feel BL's are somewhat over-bought and maybe even dead money. I've read that rate increases are baked-in, LIBOR isn't going to move much more, etc.
You yourself sta…
Point well-take Derf.
I guess what I was trying to say is: why would rates go down and stay down over the next few years, thus why aren't BL's a good investment for the time being?
I don't expect 10+% going forward, but as a stabilizer/hedge with…
Why do many seem so be down on BL funds? The prior two years were not stellar; yes 2016 has been.
I am just becoming familiar with BL's and have recently purchased LFRAX (Lord Abbett; pays a 4+% yield). In a rising interest rate environment, i wo…
I held UMBMX for many years but sold out early this year mainly because of its tax-inefficiency (held in a taxable acct) and there are better MCB funds for a taxable acct.
I purchased PARMX and plan on holding that for a long time. It works for me…
DH, thanks for the education; I will have to keep a closer on eye on those factors. You see 3% for the upper limit for this period. That's a pretty significant move from here.
What do you anticipate from there? How much higher can the rates go i…
DH, Obviously what I was watching was not correct or I misinterpreted it. I think the better question is, what were you looking at? I am not an overly sophisticated investor, so if you could enlighten me, I would greatly appreciate it.
I do not w…
Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and opinions!!
DH, I have to agree with Hank; I'm not sure why you believe I and others should known that the 10-year was going to rise from 1.78 to 2.24 in just a handful of days, now. I'm not surprised rat…
GREAT information, points and thoughts everyone, THANK YOU!
I was caught off-guard a little bit by the accelerated rise in the 10-year. I agree that it is probably a bit of an over-reaction, BUT, the trend is still probably up, albeit not in a str…
Thanks again everyone, terrific suggestions and thoughts!!!
I am not familiar with most of these suggestions so I have a lot to check out; exactly what I was hoping for.
If there any any other investment vehicles worth considering, please let me k…
A lot of great suggestions and thoughts, thanks everyone. I have looked into several suggestions and they are very intriguing; still have work to do though.
Please keep the discussion going!!!
Thank you both for the suggestions; I will look into them!
Ted I have a dumb (or ignorant) question about the stocks you mentioned. Does the YTD return include the yield or is the yield an added bonus on top of the Cap. Apprec.?
I second kevin's proposal.
A very insightful and well informed answer hank; well put, thank you!!
Critical Thinking is sometimes "easier said than done" (excuse the cliche'), but I do my best.
Any other thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciat…
Thank you ALL for some GREAT opinions, insights and thoughts!!!
I certainly have some additional ammo, information and criteria to help me vet, choose and implement the appropriate investments for my needs and to formulate a better plan, as Hank an…
Thank you for the insight Hank!!
Besides Lipper, what vehicle do you use to screen for your funds? Do you use a search engine?
How do you determine if a fund is "diversified income" or "between income and balanced", etcetera when searching?? In …
I dumped OAKBX last year after holding it for a decade. I agree with Ted, there are better choices out there; it just depends what your goals and needs are.
Good luck!
At the risk of committing blasphemy, is anyone thinking of reducing their investment in any of the more aggressive PRIMECAP funds (i.e. poagx, pogrx) or any other fund that is H/C and/or Tech heavy?
I only ask because it seems like H/C (incl. Biote…
Point well-taken David, thank you.
I am seriously considering moving out of ARTQX; the under-performance is extending into its long-term performance.
Any thoughts???
David, thank you for the heads-up!!
I have been a very long investor in ARTQX and obviously have been very disappointed in its recent performance. Do you have any thoughts on the impact this merger will have on ARTQX???
The additional AUM does no…
My wife holds FLPSX in her 401k and she is rarely disappointed with it, so maybe you are right davidrmoran, I will have to reconsider it!
Thank you for the UMBMX suggestion heezsafe!
Thanks for your reply gentlemen!
Ted, I do see that US News has two of them them ranked, but they don't give you much analysis. I do like that they are ranked fairly high. Do you have any thoughts about them?
davidrmoran, FLPSX did come up in my…
Thanks Pudd!!
Your right, I'm not in a hurry to make a change and point well taken regarding mgmt change and more downside coming soon. I will keep an eye open.
I also like your suggestion that adding a fund could be an alternative to replacement…
Thanks msf for your insight and thoughts!!
Kevindow, I think I get your non-concern of holding PRWCX in a taxable account. I re-checked M* and realized that it's after-tax returns are also NUMBER ONE in the category, for all time-frames. Thanks f…
DavidV, point well-taken! Definitely something to consider!
Kevindow, thank you for performing the test purchases, too bad! The down side of your suggestion is that I do not know anybody who owns PRWCX. Also, it is not very tax friendly and I'm …
Great responses everyone, thank you!!!
Hank, as others have implied, PRWCX is closed to new investors.
Does anyone know anything about the Voya versions (virtual clones) of PRWCX (ITRAX / ITRIX / ITCSX / ITCTX)? They are open according to M*, but…
Thank you again, everybody, I appreciate all of the input, it has helped a lot!!
kevindow, thank you for the insight into JCAPX! I perused the details of Janus Forty and it seems to have a slightly different approach than MFCFX. But I will have t…
Thank you everyone for your comments, suggestions and opinions!!!
I hold MFCFX in my taxable account so I took a huge tax hit this year, and I still have a fair amount of CG's to consider if I liquidate.
slick, I agree with the Paralysis-by-Analys…
David, etal.,
How do you think/feel this will affect THDIX. I am an investor in it and i'm now a little (maybe a lot) concerned that the lead mgr is gone!! Not only that, the two other manager just joined the team in Feb. 2015 (according to M*).

UC, have to agree with LLJB that there really is no right answer for an "ideal" number of funds. I struggle to keep my portfolio from becoming a "closet" index.
I normally do not have more than one or two funds in a given space, so as long as i'm …
UC, I know it seems a bit much in one space, but it is an unknown arena and there really isn't much overlap in them. They are in varied areas and have a mix of LC, MC and SC. I may at some point eliminate one, but I'm not yet comfortable enough wi…
I too am a believer in FM. Many believe that they are traditional EM of 20 years ago, so the growth potential has a huge upside. I have been moving some monies from my traditional EM funds into FM funds.
I currently own MFMPX.lw, WAFMX and MEASX.…
Anna, I think you are missing the point. Grants, loans and even some help from an employer (which I did get) are not "wealth redistribution". I don't believe anyone is saying that there should not be "assistance" for higher education; that is NOT …
Without belaboring the point, TB is more sopt on than he is not. I came from a low-income environment in NJ; father was a custodian w/9 grade education, mother a housewife.
I worked full-time and went to college (at night and summer) for more than…
