What does investing in gun companies have to do with anything EXCEPT the need to bring POLITICS into the conversation. A VERY IGNORANT statement!
This bogus comment can be taken to other extents: tobacco, abortion, alcohol and so on! UNINFORMED!
BrianW no disrespect taken; you are 100% accurate. I chose FMIJX for a reason several years ago and that reason has not changed, nor have my goals or needs.
Thank you for your perspective and wise words!! Matt
Very valid points made by all. Maybe "hedge" was the wrong term and misused as BrianW points out.
I almost feel like adding to FMIJX now or waiting for it to pull-back further, could be trying to catch a "falling knife"; i'm just not sure and mayb…
PRESSmUP thank you for the read. They appear to be very pessimistic and cautious near-term which is ok, it's their job to do what they feel is best for the L-T, i get that.
I just hope that the SIGNIFICANT under-performance does not continue thru …
hank you are absolutely correct, but it's good to know you are not alone in your thought process, right or wrong.
Investors have NO CONTROL over the markets, only our emotions and decisions.
Appreciate the comments and insights! Thx!!
It's sometimes hard to accept SIGNIFICANT under performance. The 98th percentile in 2017 and early 2018 does not make a trend, but should it not raise "some" concern going forward???
Does it not warran…
GREAT comments and thoughts everyone, THANK YOU!!!
I truly value the feedback I get from members of this forum; there is an abundance of knowledgeable investors with varied insights that help me (and others) make better informed decisions! Again, …
I can't comment on PRGTX, have never invested or looked into it.
I own DSEEX/DSENX and I pair it with AUEIX/AUENX as my LC core holding. These are long-term investments for me and I do not worry if they under-perform short-term.
I don't view them…
GREAT info, analysis and insight msf, thank you!!!
You made many sensible and valid points that I did not take into account; appreciate your very informed and wise perspective. I will have to reevaluate and read the article you suggest before i de…
Ted, glad to hear you are pleased with the purchase! I am very interested in this fund; it is on my short list at this point.
Are you concerned about the relative high volatility/risk rating? Relatively short existance?
No so sure about the fool phantom thinking; they are legit concerns. Every time I try to be proactive it backfires, i'm going to ride this out as long as i can.
My "timing" is atrocious, almost never benefits me.
Thanks for your candid response!!
Thanks for the insights! I was just curious and know there is an abundance of knowledge on this forum that would be able to give me a little more understanding!
I'm not worried at all; I just thought the 2+% decline was a little steeper than what …
This is a little off-topic of emulation, but if anyone would comment I would appreciate your thoughts and views.
I am a fairly recent (2017) investor in DSEEX so I have not reaped the previous years benefits. I have no intention to liquidate or re…
Ted, in theory I agree, but isn't prudent to "buy the manager" or at least give the mgr significant weight?
Let me ask you this: certainly there is no guarantee, but is there something about Rondure v. Wasatch that prompted you to convey that cave…
Thanks TS; I like that fact that they responded expediently to your request.
I have a brokerage account with FIDO; I guess I could buy it "direct" and transfer it to FIDO and save the TF??? Not sure it's worth the effort though?
Do either of you …
It does seem to me as well that RIMIX is mis-categorized by M*, which certainly could change the rating and metrics.
Thanks for the link TS and AJ for your input!!!
Any further comments, suggestions are very welcome!
Great information, discussion and analysis!!
Please keep it going; the more information, opinions, etc. the better investor we all have a chance to be!
Thanks guys for your thoughts!
DavidV, I, like Mike, was not trying to define a "core" holding as a "style (i.e. blend)" but more as a percentage of your portfolio and conviction. I certainly understand and appreciate your comment.
What I was rea…
Interesting approach O_S. Where is there a calendar of FOMC meetings?
Matt
Just did a Google search and found the calendar!
Any further thoughts and opinions are certainly welcome!!
Thanks AJ.
I too have grown tired IG muni et al; I still own MITFX (BMO inter.) but have been taking it down to eventually invest in HYM (PHMIX and/or MMHAX). I've been delaying; do you think it is a good time to DCA into them now?
I have been it…
I have been following HYM for a while and by no means am I an expert in bonds or bond funds, but it does seem like this category has some merit.
I have been following several funds, PYMDX is one but I am also very interested in MMHAX (LW at FIDO).
…
I don't worry about "go anywhere" but I have owned WHGIX for many years and it has served me fairly well; of course, you must keep this fund in perspective. As wm72 stated it does not hit home runs, but it is fairly steady, good safety and tax-effi…
MFMPX (Morgan stanley) is a decent option. I sold out of it last year (and WAFMX) and purchased MEASX.
It is an OEF that is certainly worth consideration if FM does well. I would have no issue getting back into it; it is still on my watch list.
Junkster,
I am referring to many, not all, various forum participants who seem to feel BL's are somewhat over-bought and maybe even dead money. I've read that rate increases are baked-in, LIBOR isn't going to move much more, etc.
You yourself sta…
Point well-take Derf.
I guess what I was trying to say is: why would rates go down and stay down over the next few years, thus why aren't BL's a good investment for the time being?
I don't expect 10+% going forward, but as a stabilizer/hedge with…
Why do many seem so be down on BL funds? The prior two years were not stellar; yes 2016 has been.
I am just becoming familiar with BL's and have recently purchased LFRAX (Lord Abbett; pays a 4+% yield). In a rising interest rate environment, i wo…
I held UMBMX for many years but sold out early this year mainly because of its tax-inefficiency (held in a taxable acct) and there are better MCB funds for a taxable acct.
I purchased PARMX and plan on holding that for a long time. It works for me…
DH, thanks for the education; I will have to keep a closer on eye on those factors. You see 3% for the upper limit for this period. That's a pretty significant move from here.
What do you anticipate from there? How much higher can the rates go i…
DH, Obviously what I was watching was not correct or I misinterpreted it. I think the better question is, what were you looking at? I am not an overly sophisticated investor, so if you could enlighten me, I would greatly appreciate it.
I do not w…
Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and opinions!!
DH, I have to agree with Hank; I'm not sure why you believe I and others should known that the 10-year was going to rise from 1.78 to 2.24 in just a handful of days, now. I'm not surprised rat…
