From what I have read your chance of long covid does not decrease by a lot after the first episode. The exact frequency is unclear. I have a doctor friend who has brain fog and no smell after a "cold" that he didn't even test for Covid. He onl disc…
I was fortunate that the dirty penny taste was minimal.
We always thought of you as a Right Brain Guy David!
I think your doctor is correct. Most definitions of "long Covid " use symptoms after a month. I have not seen a lot of data on Omicron …
Take care of yourself David.
I got Covid for first time last month ( and gave it to friends visiting from Australia. not a big deal they said as they had had it three times!) because of my civic duty to attend and speak at our annual town meetin…
Too bad D and C doesnt take their reputation more seriously. while perhaps not front running, it smells.
I firmly believe the only investments employees at funds should be allowed to hold are the firms own funds, unless the fund does not have a fun…
@david and Chip and everyone else here
Happy Thanksgiving indeed for the best mutual fund site on the web, and for all the lively ideas and suggestions.
Would be interested to hear if anyone here has stuck with them over the years. They had such a good story years ago, but I gave up when the returns didnt materialize
Worth watching. Given their huge minimums most of us cannot access their mutual funds. Occasionally, they have co-managed other MF, like one for Vanguard years ago.
Never went anywhere and finally GMO got fired.
Their "Climate Change" fund see…
@yogibearbull
Are you increasing duration ?
Anybody thinking about a bond ladder? what rungs are you using?
Ishares has ETFs that mature at the end of every year A ten year ladder yields 4.91%
Yes I agree this belongs in “off topic” but you can speculate on the investment implications of a Christian Nationalist ( I dont know what else to call him) Ultra Hard Right Conservative ( who believes the Government should criminalize what he think…
As I understand it, the drug companies' legal stance is negotiated lower prices amount to an illegal "taking" of their property because they are forced to sell the drug as lower prices.
This argument seems to fly in the face of the fact that they a…
@yogibullbear
The fact they are so delinquent in implementing credit freezes is appalling.
Fortunately I know our freezes are in place because every time I tried to get another insurance quote on our house the agent said it couldn't be done
As a follow up to the MoveIT etc breach, we have been hacked twice more since this summer. Our Utility was hacked with out info and an old employer of mine (2019) was hacked.
Both offered us two years of "IDEX" credit and email address monitoring,…
I dont remember when PRWCX closed but I could start a new position in ITCSX in an old VOYA retirement account I kept open in 10/2019, so ITCSX was open then.
I have not lost any money since March on VTIP but have never been able to really understand TIPS ETFs.
A better idea may be the new fixed maturity TIPS etfs with bonds that all mature the same year. We will see

I read about ZEOIX here, of course. I thought it might be close to a cash equivalent because at the time RHPIX was closed
However there were several drawdowns where the NAV dropped 2 or 3% in a couple of days so I was concerned enough to call them.…
Non tradable REITS are a disaster. Even tradable ones are a problem to me as I have not spent enough time to understand their unusual accounting. Seeking Alpha seems to be gaga over them. Now the issue is have they hit bottom?
I would only go wi…
I think it is interesting that McCarthy "choked" and put up a bill he knew he would pass only with Dems support.
The question this week will be will Dems support him when Geetz moves to replace him.
IF they do, they will clearly have a list of dem…
I avoided traditional bond funds ( the 40%) when interest rates were so low, and have been glad to avoid their decimating losses.
I don think bonds, esp those with long duration, with their current high correlation to stocks provide much diversi…
@msf
Have you used the Schwab WEG group for anything?
The example in the spreadsheet shows without the conversions their tax rate is 22% but in retirement with RMDS rises to 28% and eventually to 33%
With the conversion they start out at 24 to 25…
Thanks for update. I too am far overweight energy as it is such a small amount of the SP it is clearly a value play.
I am still trying to decide when to buy long bonds. Many of the professional bond folks, even those who think we are in a prolonge…
Sometimes you can get them to work with you. Years ago my wife had over $3000 in a growth fund that badly underperformed both the market and it's peers, to the point she was below the $3000 minimum for any stock fund.
I got the rep to allow us to b…
Very useful discussion but I think the key is how they programmed their robos.
If their models only look at historical data since the beginning of the Bond Bull Market, they may vastly under preform since the era of "free money" is over and bonds …
@msf
Yep that is the same spreadsheet I saw. How did you get a copy?
I got a bunch of Morningstar reports on their portfolios and am going over them. Will report back as soon as I have finished.
So far for the 65% Equity income oriented portfoli…
@Derf
Funny you should ask. After asking my Schwab rep if he had some way to help me calculate Roth conversions amounts, he suggested talking to the "Wealth Enhancement Group" for a no commitment plan. WEG guy says they are the 6th largest indepe…
Thanks for the link. It seems that you will still pay the 3.8% if the conversion pushes your AGI over $200,000 or $250,000, but only on your "investment income".
While complicated, it is still just math. My problem with building spreadsheets is tr…
Don't forget the 3.8% Medicare surcharge that kicks in over $250,000
You would think there would be a nice spreadsheet to calculate the long term outcomes of various conversion amounts.
I can't find one. My daughter and I tried to write one but …
@lynnbolin2021
All depends on what interest rates do which depends on hard or soft landing or "no landing". Long term muni funds like VWLTX are down 3% or so this year. They pay about the same so if interest rates don't go up you may be whole in a…
I checked Schwab’s website but could find no other method of authorization than text and a phone call, or a notification to your mobile app. The first two are vulnerable to this SIM spoofing, as eevn if they send the code by voice, it will still go …
More on Kroll a "cyber security firm" that has itself gotten hacked
Krebs on Security has posted a new item.
Security consulting giant Kroll disclosed today that a SIM-swapping attack
against one of its employees led to the theft of user informati…
