Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Unfortunately I think that this "political issue" will have profound financial and investment implications, none of them good, unless the US demonstrates that it remains committed free and fair elections, the Rule of Law and the principle that no on…
@lynnbolin2021
Thanks again for the hard work on all this.
Am I correct that you have advisory accounts at both Fido and Vang?
Do you still have significant % in the other fund strategies you have written so much about? If so I assume those acc…
I just put in a dummy trade at Vanguard for additional shares of RPHIX and their system wants to charge $20 transaction fee.
They also continue to list it as closed to new investors.
FWIW
I looked into Fidelity's service. I am sure Lynn knows more about it than I found in an hour or so of searching around, and I would be interested in his experience.
Using what appears to be their fee schedule, Fido is much more expensive than…
David I hope Chip is getting better, but please don't over exert yourselves just to publish MFO! there are many capable other people who wrote great articles this month and while there is probably no data that pushing yourself during Covid recovery…
I saw the real OJ buying Orange Juice in a grocery store near my folks house in Buffalo years ago. This was well before he divorced his first wife.
I should asked him to autograph my Orange Juice carton, but respected his privacy!
We bought a retirement home on Cape Cod in a spur of the moment decision, but we were smart enough to buy one less than 20 years old, built by a guy who over engineered everything ( It was his fifth personal build). BR on first floor, etc. IF we t…
@BenWP
Maybe I have gotten it wrong, but I think they can earn enough on treasuries( 5%) to make up the money required for all the options they use. So even if all options expire worthless, they are still made whole.
@old_Joe
I agree the lack of a sweep account is a very big negative for Schwab. I just forgot to move a large T bill redemption to a MMF for a month and figure it really cost me
Vanguard is a disaster, Schwab is cheap and costing me money, but I h…
@wxman123
With a little hunting you can find the % of any fund that comes from Treasuries , or from some funds just assume 100%. It would be worthwhile checking to see how much of treasury MM are repos, as repos are not state tax free.
Turbo tax …
Great movie. All of the Russians I have known ( here in US) are wonderful brilliant and well educated people. Of course this is a very biased sample. But it is one of histories great tragedies their country is such a mess and now so evil
Oh to answer the mutual fund question, I did a quick run through MFO for health care funds with best risk related returns, Martin numbers etc in last five years
Several to consider. I think active management is probably a better bet than an index

The article is a brief overview but read the Health Affairs article linked in the article for a better legal analysis. These authors think it is unlikely to succeed, as doctors, and hospitals voluntarily accept Medicare prices.
It would appear to m…
Just looked at Yahoo portfolio. While they say yo can import a .csv file, I couldn't get it to work.
They also will be happy to download your portfolio from your broker if you give them the PW etc.
They use Yodelee which has been around a long tim…
Hussy has that great chart in this commentary showing a spectacular returns using his 1998 proprietary indicator of "favorable indicators" to go all in on SP500 and cash if unfavorable.

Very interesting interview with Gave whose stuff I have read in the past.
They are primarily a research firm. although they have UCTIS funds with a 3% management fee!
@WABAC
My father saved EVERYTHING. I have his first income tax return the check book from the year I was born, and the original brokerage slips for the Exxon stock his father bought him in 1938. His father wrote a letter to the broker requesting…
Thanks to you both
@Yogibearbull
I have read your blog which is very helpful.
While G Fund is unique, don’t you think it’s yield will fall more slowly as it averages the yields of treasuries with 4 plus duration?
On the other hand, LT treasuri…
I agree about preferred and am looking at some big bank names. I would stay away from most other banks and credits rated B or lower.
I am still below target for equity exposure but do not think now is the time to increase it. I have only a relative…
The other question, which is more personal and Bobpa does not have to answer is does he need an emergency fund? While I worked hard to wean my kids off my checkbook, and they happily followed thru when they had jobs, in a true financial emergency in…
I am taking my subscription off annual renewal and will see if they get anywhere by next year
If I cancel, it will be the first year in probably 30 years I have not had a membership or sent money their way
@davidrmoran
I suspect you are correct, but never know. Some guys want to die with their boots on. I know several world renowned MDs who either died in the office or on rounds at the hospital. Kinda hard on the patients, however.
I bought a small amount based on Sherman's track record and the rational behind liquidating SPACs. So far no windfalls, but steady Eddy
M* "quant" (ie AI) analysis is embarrassing. You would think they would limit using it to traditional vehicles,…
Oh No! Now I will have to invest in the "Marine Money Decarbonization Index" directly
Seriously, this is a very interesting idea and these stocks will probably do very well after the recession, but it is very hard to get a niche player like this …
I have a very good friend that at 81 says he has 90% of his money in equities. He does have a pension, relatively low expenses, independent kids and owns his house outright, but he wanted a new boat and didn't buy it last year because the market cru…
I think they dumped the strategy for individuals years ago. They have slowly dismantled almost everything.
You have to assume they have focused on advisors and large firms. Almost every brokerage house buys their stock research to provide an "alte…
Few star managers can make the transition to a team much less assume it will be your kid.
Michael Price is another example of a one man show that became problematic after he left.
Another example is Albert Nicholas who ran the Nicholas Fund.

Found the Fidelity Portfolio Analysis tool.
It is pretty good, although it does not have all the results in one page like X ray (although with Xray still have to click through to see details

I have been a Morningstar subscriber for decades but have been very disappointed in the gradual elimination of services vital to individual investors.

It is the only thing I find useful at M*. They have me on auto renew so I hope they make it clear before they "auto renew me" next year

@hank
Of course, as soon as I increase my equity exposure substantially the markets will crash.
Those of you who have been heavily invested in equities recently and enjoyed the run up, you have my low allocation to thank!
I am risk adverse by nature, but without a pension ( except SS) I knew my wife and I would have to depend on our investments for living expenses, vacations weddings etc when we retired.
Much of what I read pointed out that retiring into a multi ye…
@LewisBraham
Thanks for sharing that article. While the investing take home points focus on inflation and a good description of what is at work, what will stick in my mind longer is how some people are more concerned with being in charge or on top…
Getting back to the forces at work driving inflation
1) Corporations have much better on time data and can raise prices quickly to protect and even increase profit margins
2) there are still something like 2 or 3 million "missing workers" who hav…
