Reply to @Investor: I defer to Accipiter on the coding question, not only because my programming skills are fairly basic, but also because he's really well versed at making the Vanilla Board work. I personally don't have a preference over where the bookmarks show, and it might be a good subject for a future poll. (I've been dying to use the poll feature, because I'm really much more of a data geek.)
For now, though, I'd be happy to give folks a chance to try out the new features, and even more importantly, give Accipiter a chance to have a life for a little while. He's really put so much time into this upgrade and deserves a chance to relax.

I have Safari scripted to reset everything on, so nothing should be carrying over from previous session.
Also, I'm seeing the same behavior in a test user account and in Safari 3.0.4 (both accounts), so I don't think it's caused by something in my primary account.
its common for an older version to work for things, and the next not to work, and the next to work. and viceversa. (depending on whether they add a feature or a bug to the version or discontinue something).
once again if you post your OS - maybe someone else with the same environment can tell you if it works for them. It is impossible for me to troubleshoot, since I don't have Safari. maybe @Investor or @Chip have safari and can provide some insights.
From my work computer, I have not been able to get on the discussion board since the change.
The discussion part has never really worked well on that PC. I could often see that new replies to posts existed, but would not be available when I opened the post. The yellow would not go away after opening a post. A couple other bugs that I don't get with my home PC. I think when I mentioned this in the past it was thought to possibly be my firewall.
But now when I click on discussions, the discussion board comes up for about 2-3 seconds then disappears and a message comes up saying 'what you are looking for can not be found' and then some other polite words about trying the search option. All the other MFO options seem to work. Just the discussion board is the problem.
Any ideas? Looks like my MFO time is now limited to home use only.
Reply to @catch22: This is similar to what was happening to me yesterday on the "Latest Presentation From Gundlach: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall" topic. Type the link, OK. Use Investors "Here" link, not OK- freezes.
Investor's link still does not work at this time. Also, for the link below I attempted to use the url link gizmo to link to the Gundlach topic, and it also fails.
Hi Accipiter. Of course you're correct with respect to the need to accurately paste a link URL, or anything (or nothing) may happen. But this whole thing started with Investor's "Here" link in the "Latest Presentation From Gundlach: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall" thread of Sept 11, below.
By the way- the above "Let's go there" link was generated according to the example which will be included in the next user guide revision:
from the main "Discussions" page, copy link location of the desired post, then use the URL button.
This has been tested a number of times and works just fine, but if there is a reason that this is incorrect, please let me know before I submit that revision.

Reply to @Old_Joe: Now, I revisited my post and when the forum is wrapped in World Press blog, the link does not work (at least from Safari). I am not sure why it is so. It may be also due to the linked site having bad interaction with World Press (perhaps styles or something else). I normally access MFO directly without the World Press wrapper through the following URL:
I also had a problem linking to a World Press blog using Safari. Using your alternate access to MFO, I found the link worked. You may look at the discussion "Mutual fund based financial advisor ..." to see my problems. I hope someone can explain this.

I searched the article and linked again; and now the link is okay. I had a similar problem during earlier testing, but have not had any further problems. I am using MS IE 9 browser.

the simple answer is some sites do not allow themselves to be embeded in other sites. (e.g. usually other blogs, scribe, probably google books, etc).
if you use the right mouse button and open links to off-site links in a new tab or window - you will be much happier.
It is not a bug, it is a reality of life. - some sites will not allow themselves to be embedded in other sites. If you are viewing the forum with the MFO header on top you are reading something that is embedded
No amount of new information is going to allow me to change what the other site allows.
Um, probably just me, but I'm not seeing the automatic link on the five letter fund symbol when posting to the Discussions page. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, 3.0.4 is 5 years old, but I don't have the problem with 2.4, which is at least a year older than that.

Mike, I do not know what is wrong with your computer. I would clear browser cache, clear cookies and attempt to log-in again.
Try a different browser if you can.
Also, your corporate network might be caching old content or interfering in some way. Sounds like they might have a bad proxy.

I suspect the re-write of urls by wordpress interferes with the firewall caching when the firewall caching is not set correctly.
the link that chip posted - has a better chance of working - but improper caching could still cause a problem even with that link.

as long as you note that you cannot paste links that have "discussions-3" or http://http//

should be a black x on the close and hover of the fund popup box. Theoretically the close on other popup boxes shouldn't have changed.
