It all looks very inviting and gives me a sense of timing or making the correct choice when the opportunity looks poor. Bond have not gone in the direction expected so you are a winner. How much are you willing to take for this scenario in retiremen…
Good bond funds in my mind are there for good managers to navigate the market better than I could. Over the last 5-7 years I identified the best managers for me. So I own MWTRX, PIMIX, TGEIX, and TGBAX. That's where my bond money is.
The first thing I usually do if looking at a fund someone has suggested is compare performance to a similar one I may already own, in this case I compared OSTIX. So I have no further interest in IRNIX
Not a time to be adventureous, complacent is good for me at age 80, comfortable and not good for making changes when a good fund like TOLLX is also at highs in a sector mostly highs. Raising some cash is ok but waiting is also ok.
I always thought the fund was too costly and I would never want to hold enough to make a difference. Therefor, I avoid all these alternative type funds.
I'm too old to think, just kidding, but I don't track every movement in my funds, I'm just looking for decent returns vs benchmarks so I hold an ETF, VHT has done very well.
I'm looking at either HULIX, PRBLX, VEIPX, or VDIGX as a Large Cap Dividend Fund. Any recommendations or other funds I should be looking at in the Large Cap Equity? Thanks!
Interesting question because should you be just looking for a LC dividend …

I watched decided it was not for me, too expensive and not a benefit for an 80 year olds portfolio. Too much discussion. If I think I should be short the market, I should review my AA and adjust if necessary. If there is a bad down market this fund …
Its usually better to be early than late. I've been in a closed end floating rate fund JRO for over 2 years now and just fine. Its been part of my fixed income positions.
Since I happen to own both PRBLX and a number of individual stocks, since the 1970,s and 1990,s, why not own both? It has served me well and now I'm 80 and my wife and I have enjoyed our retirement with a portfolio that will take me to age 95+ but d…
Cataract, like most, is not a sure thing surgery. I had one that required another follow up retina surgery. As it turned out, there was no improvement from before the original surgery but it no worse than it was before. A year later, my second eye …
One of the posters here considers SS as part or all of their fixed income piece of the pie. That's not a bad idea, especially with bonds as they are at the present. Something to consider.
SS is included in total assets when doing a cash flow retir…
I have been advised to go with 20% equity, 50% bonds, 30% short term. Age are 80+78.
Assets are suitable in retirement to cover all estimated expenses to age 95.
Nice to see many have done so well. The often, sell in May, coming up. I never paid attention to it. I'm sorry I never had any real estate but at age 80 now, becoming even more conservative with less equities. Looks like the niche/sector area were p…
I am using last 3 years for any new funds I add and mostly conservative funds. currently largest position, VWINX, BERIX, PRBLX, YACKX, VILLX, and an ETF-SCHD
I'll weigh in here since I think most active funds are over priced.
Better than active
