I am 81 retired and a long time believe, in the balanced Moderate fund until the past year when bonds earned almost nothing and I used to buy individual bonds with maturities. Now I only own one tip bond the expires in 1/2016. I do own some funds th…
A top performing small cap may not always be one. A fund comes to mind a few years ago I had RYPRX. It was closed and became too large. They are now mid cap.
I like where I am with 61% equity, 24% fixed income and 15% cash but considering reducing fixed and adding to SCHD a high quality dividend ETF. Maybe also adding from cash.
John, I'm sorry I can't give you an informed response since I hold what I consider to be the best funds for my age (81) and objectives. While I don't think they are overpriced, they were my best holdings for past year and no intension of selling.
other holdings, some bonds and equities are the drag on performance for both PDT and FFC. With an 8+% distribution, patience will pay off as in pervious years. Quality is the difference.
I'm sticking with what I've mostly owned like PRBLX, MWEIX, OAKGX, POGRX, VEIPX etc. because in the long run, they will be winners and I care less what the media is saying.
John, thank you. I'm one of those grandparents who made the mistake of gifting this fund to 4 grandchildren in 1980's 90's. What hard to understand is how American Century got away with it.
@Ron: CIM is guaranteed for six months 7%+, and the potential for some capital appreciation. I just bought some.
Ted, I will consider for partial position, I wouldn't have found this fund on my own, thanks.
DBFRX might work for you?
Derf
P.S. Let me know what you think.
I just don't like to use funds with short term records especially in the junk bond sector.
I am impressed with performance but some things not impressed with, like largest position and that father/son are managers and must invest directly with them.
Surprised no one ever mentions AABPX except me, which I bought last year after doing my DD at age 81 and staying pretty conservative with a mix of funds and stocks and
alot of patience.
I've owned SGENX for a number of years when I loved Jean-Marie Eveillard but looking now to hold something that might be very good over next few years, both OAKGX and MWEIX. I'm more interested in past 3 years. We shall see.
I think a lot of investors are missing the boat by not investing with Hasenstab in Templeton Global Bond Fund. He is also very good with currencies in the long term. I own TGBAX.
I love when I hear others are buying what I own, especially the Buffets of the world but don't care what they are selling. That's where my similarity ends.
Do real estate funds in general have a high turnover rate? Also, is there a place one can research prior years to check the turnover rates for those years?
I don't think index funds have high turnover. Good reason to own them, like VNQ.
Thank you catch. I also have PIMIX as my largest bond fund with MWTRX close. I only have TGEIX for an emerging market position. Good luch with the modem, I always dread making technology changes. I prefer the old.
Ukraine only about 6% of holdings. Over 95% of portfolio are investment grade. Might hurt a bit but far from a catastrophe. Hasenstab will come through just fine.

@MFO Members: I taking a close look at BBN along VUSTX and increased position in PFF and KKR.
Regards,
Ted
I see you like PFF and I wondered if you have looked at 2 funds I have FFC and PDT?
