Thank you sma3! We are spending this summer in northwest again. I have no quiet place I can be before noon eastern (9 am here). Library opens at 9am! I've set up a session for Friday, 2 pm eastern ... posted on board. But, if that does not work, just call me at 805 468 9599 ... if I can pick up I will. Hopefully, can pick a day where you can attended from noon on. Very happy to do! c
Hi Jon. Nope. But that's a good one. For example, new GOs, old GOs. Ditto with Three Alarm. Perhaps last month's MFO Rating? Will noodle.
In this month's update, I notice DODIX is back as a GO, after a short hiatus.
There is a lot of historical in…
Thank you MikeW! If David takes the time to write a launch alert, pay attention.
Just went live with several other new features in MultiSearch, including: Jump Scroll, Hover Symbol, and Plus Searches, described here.
Thank you MJG.
Yep.
Sold TSLA in March.
Tried to buy AMZN in 2002 while vacationing in London, but was just shy in cash account on the 100 share buy ... can you believe that?!
So, in our life times: AMZN, MSFT, TSLA, GOOG, UBER, QQQ, ARK, AAPL, …
Discussion of future performance, of course, is only opinion. Some do so with more confidence than others, but no one really knows. And you can find opinions to support broadly varying views ... just glance over SeekingAlpha titles.
As for investin…
Absolutely delightful and informative morning session with Lynn and friends!
As promised, here is link to chart deck. Will post video shortly.
Afternoon overview session starts in abut 30 minutes. Can still register here.
@Observant1
Nice article by Ben Carlson, as usual. Thanks for sharing.
I'd add Bruce Berkowitz and the Fairholme Fund FAIRX to that list.
And Bill Miller of Legg Mason Opportunity Fund LMOPX.
There is also a fund company in SF that publishes …
Just to be clear, the ARKW return I quoted above is a annualized (conceptual) number, but here are the actual calendar year returns:
YTD - 136.0% (thru Nov)
2019 - 35.8%
2018 - 16.8%
2017 - 90.4%
2016 - 8.7%
2015 - 15.3%
That is one impressive …
Yep, I get that. But, we have to give them a nod for what they've done so far. They sure got it right ... six years worth.
Four MFO Great Owls (all those older than 3 years). Four on MFO Honor Roll (all older than five years).
They are top quint…
Eye-watering!
It has five funds returning more than 100% from April thru November … six, if you count the one it sub-advises ... see here.
Five of its funds have returned more than 80% YTD!
@msf.
Actually, indexes that are designed to be used by mutual funds classify companies according to whether they were growth or value companies.
Good stuff!
We do include recovery time (months underwater), actually both decline and ascent periods as well.
I absolutely agree that condensed volatility made the monthly returns seem inadequate. But maybe not, at least for investment grade bonds and US equi…
Have not checked this fund history yet, but ...
MFO uses month ending total return. Not daily returns. So, intra-month, like 3/18 illiquidity hell, does not get picked-up.
Besides, if you have to watch your investments daily, is it really an inves…
Hi newgirl.
They are there.
Probably best to adjust screen to show all 672 GOs by selecting Rows 1000.
Or, just search symbol like PISIX or BUFIX on the GO page.
Let me know if this help resolve.
Thank you!
There are now more than 10,000 US funds (OEFs, ETFs, CEFs). 10,007 to be precise. That excludes Insurance Funds, which number 2,107. Add in all share classes and the number explodes to 32,094.
Here's the breakout ...

Since that awful time in March, I've never used MultiSearch and Portfolios tools more.
I find myself setting the Display to periods before March (like Trump Bump, Obama Bull, GFC Bull), to see which funds performed best in last bull market.
I'll a…
@msf. Good stuff. Suspect the same with PMZIX, though more tempered. Both served investors pretty well through March madness. YTD: PIMIX +2. PMZIX + 3. DODIX +7. Suspect AUM has to start being a drag on PIMIX. But maybe not, PIMCO has tremendous res…
Just noticed RCTIX yield is actually increasing a bit. About 4.6%. Dennis championed this fund.
