Decided to take my profits in Kraft, of course that made it go up more :/ but have it in RHS and XLP. Added to my starter position in CTSH , added a bit to HDPSX.
@Scott
I sold off McDonalds and Coke last year for their stagnant sales and their resting on their laurels, no regrets. My taxable portion of portfolio tends to have these lower growth stocks for their dividends, but I expect SOME movement upwards.…
@Scott
Don't slam jello, I try and eat healthy most of the time, but love my jello for dessert. Fortunately, I own both Kraft and Whitewave, so betting on healthy food and unhealthy food at the same time LOL.
@Ted,
Sounds like my portfolio mirrors that, 70% of my funds, 80% of my etfs exceed the S + P so far, but less so for my stocks, but in a few of the stocks I got lucky and helped make up for the ones that didn't do as well.
@PressmUp,
Even though HC is my largest sector in my portfolio, it represents about 12% of my total. and 18% of my equity portion. I own PJP, FBTIX and PHSZX (I am 70% equity 30% bonds and cash). My three top sectors are HC, tech and industrial.…
One thought comes to mind: Analysis Paralysis. It happens to all of us at one time or another. Large cap growth or multi cap growth funds can have wild swings, and highest returns are not always the best metric to use in choosing them. That way yo…
@scott
I truly laughed out loud when I read your post, especially the third paragraph.
I think what would solve this whole issue is to create a device like the "tricorder" in Star Trek. It seemed to do everything except make coffee. One scan, a…
Although over 25 years old, if you do any stock picking along with funds, I like Peter Lynch's One Up on Wall Street. Its why I bought WWAV, ARII and SKX (buy what you know and can understand) I sold SKX and ARII at a fair profit, but rebought ARII…
Sold SKX, well actually it got stopped out, but as I stated in a previous post it was very tight, so not sorry to let it go. Had 30% profit in it, didn't want to be a hog LOL.
Took profits on half the shares of NXPI I bought early February. It announced their purchase of one of its competitors Monday am, shares shot up 17%. This was pure luck :)
@ Ted,
thanks for posting this. My portfolio seems more like the allocation model, altho I have more small and mid caps, a bit less reits. I keep a constant allocation in most of the asset classes shown, you never know when one will start to mov…
I think I will keep my PJP up 13.95% ytd five year average total return 33.47. Just wish I had bought it five years ago instead of two. You could not go wrong with almost any health care fund or etf in recent years. Lots of great funds and etfs …
I always was a huge fan of the original Star Trek and its movies. I remember sitting in the dorm lounge in college watching it with all the other trekkies. Live long and prosper in your new home Mr. Spock
@Old_Joe no K-1s since it is a fund, you don't own the mlps directly, the fund does. Mark, I like BX too, when I free up some cash will be adding to my position in BX.
@Old_joe A few months ago added INFIX , fund of mlps which has a nice 6.9% dividend.
Still holding on to WWAV and SKX, with some tight stop losses on them. Did some nibbling on NXPI and CTSH this ;last week; these additions are part of my tradin…
Thanks for the input all. As I stated, these stocks are not meant to be buy and hold stocks. I have a good assortment of those that I hold for the long term, and may redirect some profits from time to time, but these small and mid cap stocks that I…
@old_skeet,
Thanks for responding and I make an effort to read all of yours too. I am not overly concerned in generating income from my retirement portfolio right now, since I am using the taxable portfolio, which consists of my 30% muni bond port…
I'm bulliush on tech, as I have slightly overweighted it in portfolio. Have ISTIX and CMTFX with a good chunk in my large cap growth TFOIX. Health care, however is still my largest sector in portfolio, with tech second.
@David,
I also have a health care fund PHSZX and biotech fund FBTIX, this just fills in some gaps of large pharma that the others did not seem to concentrate on.
My fav etf in this space is PJP, up 28% in 2014. Added it 2 years ago because even though I had a health care fund and biotech fund, they did not seem to own large pharma. It's a keeper.
@BenWP- be aware that Don Hodges founder of the firm and co-managed each fund has recently passed away. His son has been co-manager all along, and I hold HDPSX too, and I have a wait and see attitude as to the impact of this. Craig Hodges has be…
I came to new mexico in 2001 to be with the love of my life whom I met while I was living in baltimore. Hard to beat the weather here as , long as you want 4 seasons. The only other place that I would consider is north carolina, but when you get u…
One of the reasons I moved to new mexico is the winters are not bad, averages 50 or so, with very little snow, but you can usually find some within an hour or two for skiing. Ihad my fair share of snow when I lived in cleveland, so don't miss it. Su…
The prospectus says 40% of the holdings are to be global, how is that defined? Domiciled outside US, companies with significant portion of revenue outside of US ?
How do they choose stocks, bottom up, top down or combination? Would be interested in…
What a coincidence, just bought this fund today after my FA showed me the fund, as a replacement for WAGTX, which used to be run by all the people now at Grandeur Peaks. I surmise its best days may be behind them , since so many of the people res…
Virtually all of my bond exposure (32%) is in long term munis which were inherited , all rated at least AA by S + P, first call date is June 2016. I assume they will be called, too bad, they are paying an average of 4.3%. I have a small holding in …
Im keeping my fingers crossed. I bought the Hodges Small Cap fund in 2014, but Craig Hodges seems to be the face for this fund whenever they were on tv. I am sure its a big loss for not only his family but the business community in which he lived …
Amazing thing happened. After I cancelled my premium membership at M* my portfolio magically reappeared. Will stay with just the free version. I get my portfolio totals at ML, but I did use M* for research, plus yahoo and Fidelity (left there in …
No real money lost, but given the fact that I was paying for the premium service, not getting my money's worth has been on my mind for a while now, this clinched it.
