Is there information about the liquidity of the assets held by IOFIX? I ask because I held the fund in the past and sold because I was concerned that assets values did not seem to be revised in systematic periodic intervals. Has there been any recen…
@FD1000, could you elaborate more on your view of ZEOIX? While previously recommended by some, it clearly disappointed last week. But, it does demonstrate the risks of investing in funds with short maximum drawdown history.
I agree, but "lower participation” has not occurred. Quite the opposite, participation has been excellent. We seem to be preventively trying to solve a problem, and as a consequence limiting service.
I would still agree with David that the best solution is likely to allow for revealed demand (by clicking and participating or not) to determine the outcome. Instead of running the risk of closing the door in an on-going thread that had a significan…
@dtconroe,
I would like to congratulate you for the content of the thread “Bond OEF Investing for More Conservative Investors”, I have enjoyed reading and particularly benefited from your posts.
David’s guidance was clear “the argument that it is u…
David, the request by dtconroe if you "Could you provide one example on my thread where there was any argumentative posting? "is a fair request.
I am truly disappointed by the closure of his thread, I was finding it extremely useful.

Myself, I try to keep in mind that the YTM can be affected by the risk of a Bond being called. In the Schwab site, some bonds include "Make Whole Call" for the case they are called. However, sometimes, the YTW (Yield to Worst) is left blank. I was …
In 2011 the English government (using data from England and Wales) conducted a study to estimate the probability of an individual 50 years old in 2011 to reach 100 years of age. The results were 11.4% for males and 17.0% for females. These numbers i…
Great discussion.
However, I am now puzzled by how IOFIX portfolio increased in value by almost 1% in one day, given that it "did not come from any specific event or the repricing of any illiquid bonds".
Thanks
I agree, very disappointing.
I am also invested – after observing the fund excellent downside performance in 2008.
Maybe MFO could include an analysis of the fund in a future monthly commentary.
Comparing the previous Scotrade services with the current TD Ameritrade, two positives have been:
Better Bank Services for transferring out funds
Transactions now are posted in the next business day – instead of as previously in two businesses days.
Our account moved from Scottrade to TD Ameritrade.
The positives have been:
TF continues at $17.
Automatic investment on TF at zero cost ($0) – to set it up you need to phone.
Pimco institutional funds have zero ($0) minimum
I have a regular account and have being making zero fee recurrent invest in TF mutual funds regularly for years. However, short term investment withdraws (less than 180 days) will be subject to penalty fees.
@openice,
I understand from your reply - that in your TDA account - mutual fund investments of less than 180 days - will be charged $66 ($17+$49 redemption fee)?
However, I have also noticed that one advantage of TDA accounts is that recurring inves…
openice,
In your account, has TDA honored the Scottrade 90 day period for short term NTF trading (instead of requiring you to hold funds for 180 days)?
The absence of alternatives suggests that Quicken is getting near to the definition of a monopoly. Monopolists’ price setting strategies are usually a concern. You say $100/year is reasonable – not sure how to respond some thought below. However, th…
My concern is that once you start the subscription - what will happen if you do not renew. Having bought Quicken 2017 in January of this year, I will wait for 3 years before deciding how to review.
Thanks for the sharing, very helpful.
Old_Skeet: Is ANCFX closed? M* indicates open, but Scottrade and TD Ameritrade indicates closed.

Dividend investing strategies have a strong appeal for retirees. As I approach retirement – I am uncertain how to design one that takes into account the ongoing interest rate increasing cycle. I would appreciate thoughts on how others are planning t…

You mention the possibility of the fund liquidating, however the fund webpage is indicating about $1.5 billion in assets, do you see any indication that liquidation is being considered.
Thanks
I am invested in FSMEX, somewhat lower risk than IHI. The 10-Year Upside & Downside Capture Ratio are 94.51 and 47.04 for FSMEX and 100.54 and 61.80 for IHI – which are better than for the Health Sector 93.64 and 56.25.
Again, about keeping DODGX and M* accountable for a clear standard.
The webpage of D&C states (as of June 30), 10 year returns 5.89% - compared with S&P 7.18%. Let's please not search for excuses for underperformance. Without discussing the …
I am trying to understand how a fund can be considered outstanding when for the last 10 years it could not keep pace with the S&P, for the last 15 years was ahead of the index by only 0.46%, with volatility higher then the benchmark - for most o…
As part of this discussion I brought up the comment on PVFIX by David Snowball on the Commentary of May 2015.

I own PVFIX as a strategic part of my portfolio, as far as I understand the fund is continuing to perform its expected role in my portfolio. I am adding new funds to PVFIX through recurrent monthly investments. I am trying to resist the temptation t…
I have adopted as a strategy to keep regularly adding to ICMAX and PVFIX in the current phase of the market. But most of all, to resist the temptation to add to PRWCX. I am considering instead establishing a new position on WHGIX - which had a shal…
VintageFreak, Very helpful, I have been investing three groups of funds:
Balanced: OAKBX, PRWCX
Alternatives: FPACX
And: PVFIX and ICMAX (alternatives but without bond holdings) not sure how to classify.
I am trying to understand the advantages of …
I have been invested in OAKBX for the long-term, the performance of WHGIX and OAKBX is almost identical for the period when Morningstar has data on WHGIX (OAKBX is slightly ahead).

Thank you all for the input, I will do more research as suggested, but also wait much longer for them to demonstrate a track record. Overall, there is no urgency, I am invested in RPHYX for the very short run, and PIMIX for a longer term.
Rephrasing my original request for feedback.
SPFPX is a Bank Loan Fund with a short history (2013 onwards), however when compared with its pears it seems to have significantly outperformed.
There have been a few discussions related to SPFPX, one h…
