Mark -- well said!!

"A quick civics lesson: Just before the government shutdown began, the Senate, led by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (a Republican) overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan bill that would have kept the government o…
Indeed. Amazing and unsettling!
The United States is in a state of emergency: 28 national ones and many more local. This might come as a surprise, but it isn’t new—this month marks the start of our 39th year in a continuous emergency state. What is …
Idiot, indeed.
Tweety implying he'll militarily seize land in the southern states to build his wall? Funny, I thought some king tried that back in the 1700s and got his royal derriere' kicked, which resulted in ... the Constitution.
And yet when …
That’s what happens when 1) you hit peak smartphone in the developed world, 2) sell them for obscene prices, 3) think the developing world can or will pay those prices for them, 4) your ‘innovation’ as of late SUCKS, and oh yeah ..... 5) you’re als…
The primary 'glitch' causing adverse stock market problems these days happens to be orange-hued and roams the halls of the White House with a phone in one hand and a KFC bucket in the other.
Yes, I do. We ended up paying the load on them but have long since recouped those costs and they've performed quite well since '06 when we first got them. Capital Group is a very conservative firm with a sound consensus-based investment culture. …
@MSF: that's part of a commentary in this month's MFO.
IMO active fund managers being compensated more with an emphasis on gathering assets for the firm to manage instead of their fund's overall absolute performance is a conflict of interest in my…
-2.29 is the return of the account )with all things reinvested) according to Pers Cap. I hold mostly US div stocks plus an uncomfortably large cash pile that I'm continuing to put to work ... my funds range from a suite of American Funds in my lon…
Via Personal Capital......
Until 11/30 I was +3.31 across all accounts.
As of 12/31 I was -2.29 across all accounts. Rough December!
Not that I care about benchmarking to an index, but as a data point, the S&P was -6.24 for 2018 so I'll not…
I learned as a futures daytrader that trading is more an art than a science. A given 'level' of support/resistance may be X or Y, but in reality, it's "around X or Y, give or take Z." I have long since given up the idea of precise prediction on …
Probably the same reason it takes "4-6 weeks" to get one's name removed from an e-mail marketing list run by prominent companies. In 2018 I find that timeframe beyond laughable.
The PBS special was excellent. Loved the intra-crew jibbing ("never trust an Annapolis grad") and personal tales relayed by crew and ground staff alike. Well worth an hour of your time if you're a space buff!
I swear EL bought Sears/KMart for the real estate value and never cared about the demise of the actual stores/brands.
The 2 Sears near me here in Northern VA were dismal, empty, stuffy places for years --I'd only use them for Lands End returns and …
Day-trading institutional algos are going to kill the markets one day. The Flash Crash of '10 and the insanity of 5-600-point intraday swings (not to mention Wed's 1000-point spike on the Dow) are just a preview of things to come.
I daytraded fut…
Dow futs down 371, NASDAQ futs down 103, S&P futs down 42 in the premarket as I type this.... meooooowwwwwww!
Edit: Someone is rage-tweeting again, that may explain things, too.
Plunge Protection Team?
This was too big to be just a relief rally or a 'bottom' or a trend change imho. Let's see what carrythrough tere is into year-end.....
He can say what he wants, but at least Powell is doing his job on behalf of the country and has a clue about things he's responsible for. The same can't be said for ..... others in DC.
No selling here ... if anything, I'm slowly nibbling and buying.....
... but nothing grabs headlines like photos of shocked floor traders and panicked headlines about market volatility, right?
US futs open around 6PM ET ... but to get a true sense of how the overnight might turn out, wait until the Asian markets -- ie, China -- opens at 9.
US futs < 1% at tonight's open, so......buckle up, folks!
I have no problem nibbling on stuff I'd like to own for the long-term that hit my price targets, but I am not going hog-wild with buys, tempting as it might be. I simply position-size based on volatility and DCA into positions as appropriate.
I'm mainly leaving my positions alone these days -- but using some 'fun' money I'm also trading around the edges with some success, particularly in SH options. Tweety Amin --er, President T --er, Mister Tariff, er, I mean, Individual-1's ability to…
Same here. Bought it during its first month not for the 'minimum volatility' aspect but b/c it had an eclectic mix of global stocks and skeed midcap. Very pleased w/its performance to date.
I have been invested with VMVFX since inception. Top 10…
The LEXCX ER is lower than many LCV funds I believe ... but still, I think it should be lower given how it is structured. I am not looking to buy it, I'm just opining about it b/c it's a somewhat unique fund.

Not a bad list - I own PRBLX as the core in my Roth IRA and NSEIX has been a watchlist fave for a while, too.
For a trust that is essentially unmanaged, there is no reason why LEXCX should have such a high ER.
Decent fund imho, but I think growth has had its time in the sun in recent years .... I think value is slowly coming back into vogue and would be more inclined to look there.
But if you want a solid LCB fund? Check out PRBLX, which I hold in my R…
Arnott's funds are FoFs and seem to be a place for PIMCO to get more AUM for its various funds.
Arnott had a 20% short S&P position in PAUIX (one of his big popular alt funds) and held it for *years* during the 'bull' market post-'09. Why? Hi…
Yeah - it's the generic cash account for brokerage account transactions/activities/dividends, etc.
@MikeM and @rforno etal
So, the sweep account must be used to receive transaction money from dividends, a fund sell, etc. and is also the account…
Same at TD. We have sweep accounts paying next to nothing - there are a few TD-branded MMs that you need to contact an 'advisor' to move money into/out of, and they have higher ERs too. Oh ... if you want to use another MM fund, like a Vanguar…
Ahhh yes, the time of year when magazines and pundits offer their best picks for the new year by flipping coins, shaking their magic eight balls, etc. to come up with recommended buys. It's the most wonderful time of the year! :)
