For all the years I listened to Brinker, and that amounts to around 15 years, he was very much the "stay the course" advisor. Perhaps his change of stance is reflective of a new investing environment we now face. Since 2008 it has been fast changing…
They might be trying but it's not working. It is taking way too long to correct things there. People are still leaving as of last year.
Their actions of the past have burned the confidence bridge for me. My opinion only. There are plenty of good c…
An interesting news item came on today. This new Islamic State terror group (Isis) has been recruiting from all over the world. A number of people from the Philippines and Australia have gone to train and possibly to fight. Some if these are said to…
I believe the only way for rates to go is up but the bigger question is when? Janet Yellen seems more and more convicted to keep them pat for the near future.
One reason I went into ASDVX was that it is short duration. ( < 3 yrs ) . I hope it …
I had a All Cap fund with a small amount that was lagging this year. I decided to switch that into a unconstrained bond fund. That also helped me as I decided to get a bit more conservative in my allocation.
Well that's interesting. He was against junk bonds back when but of course stocks were the sure bet too. OSTIX sounds like ASDVX which I own. He is the king of the $cost avg.
I'm out of it now but I still keep an eye on the fund. It has held up quite well so I got out too early. I was worried about the rates. At some point I will get back in once things stabilize.
I should add that the BGNMX recomendation he have turned out very well. Most gnma funds did well in the 90's and next century. I used it as a sweep for profits from gold funds (which he hated) and Japanese dead cat bounces which I lucked out on with…
"do you still listen to Bob Brinker. I listen to him every Sunday for the full 3 hours. Maybe we can share some Brinker stories....."
@rjb112
I don't listen to him any longer and haven't done so for several years now. Do you remember his QQQ buy si…
@varmint, you are on it. Granted there are no news feeds here but you can get those off Yahoo or a multitude of other sites. Bloomberg is a decent site.
@Mark, Spot on. Mr. Snowball's commentaries are an excellent value.
@MikeM, I think your plan has a lot if merit. Sure it's a sideways move and the plan is usually a direct rollover from one fund to the other. But if you do catch a correction in the process with your plan you will be in the catbirds seat. There is …
Bonds are definitely a mystery for most investors. For years I concentrated on stock funds. When I turned 45 I started to think about bonds and decided to $cost avg into them. At that time I was listening to Bob Brinker on the weekends and he was al…
@Bee, @Sven, I remember that Fuss interview on Wealthtrack. It was very informative.
We are lucky we have access to these smart minds like Fuss and Gundlach. Then we can form our own opinions and actions.
I must be the old one here. I used pencil and paper except in high school where a slide rule was required.
Those early calculators and computers were expensive indeed. We have come a long ways since. Today's iPad has more power than anyone could h…
I think the attraction of unconstrained bond funds is their flexibility versus the standard Treasury fund. Looking ahead, investors sense that flexibility may be an advantage. The key might be the allocation one decides to put towards these funds.
What intrigued me was the discussion on the Callan tables which showed that high yield bonds recovered quickly in a bear market versus most other sectors. Now this upcoming bear market (when it gets here) might be different due to the interest rate …
@heezsafe, now that you mentioned Ghostery, back in my MW days I was also running Ghostery. The numbers were in the twenties when I was on MW, even on the forums.
@rjb112, Thanks for the explanation above. It is a topic due for an intense conversation here.
When Gundlach speaks I do listen. He comes across as a brilliant investor. Why he has multiple styles of funds? Marketing.
His Unconstrained funds s…
In grade school we were handed a small magazine each month called The ABC's of Industry. Lots of informative pieces about GE light bulbs and Zenith radios and other brands of that era. I suppose these days that would be called corporate brainwashing…
Thanks AndyJ. That makes it clear to me. M* has the duration of ACCNX at 4.8 years. I'm not sure how accurate that is. I think it's closer to 4 years.
I also opened a positioned in ASDVX which a brand new fund at AC. Short Duration Strategic Incom…
I disagree. Suppose someone comes into an inheritance and wants to invest it? With the markets at these levels would you go all in or DCA over 12 months?
Dropping 20% will take a while to recover back.
I didn't know about Ken Moraif since I haven't been there in quite some time. Another example is Michael Gayed of Pension Partners. When I was active on that site I would bring up the obvious conflict of interest only to have my posts deleted. It tu…
@heezsafe, Yes, ACCNX is the fund. Core Plus Bond. I never figured what the plus was for but glad you mentioned that CG at the end of the year. I like the fact that it is sure and steady and for that reason it is my core bond holding.
I will not click any links to Marketwatch. They lost all credibility years ago. Their so called writers mix conflicts of interest in with their opinions. Selling newsletters or investing services is the main objective. I won't mention names but it i…
Concentrating on the topic of owning bond funds in a rising rate environment; there are plenty of fear stories out there that talk of armeggedon and losing your money. This is fear mongering to me. I see the downside at the beginning of the rate ri…
If one googles or bings Embraer versus Bombardier they will get a plethora of information. These aircraft fit a niche in between the 737/320 and the turboprops. Airlines are starting to use more of these on longer routes much to the dismay of passen…
Crash, I own a bond fund called Core Plus. My understanding was that it could be a core holding for a bond portfolio as it holds different types of bonds. In the fund I mention, these are investment grade bonds. Of course, I sense it is more marketi…
"Sigh! The good old days when life was simpler."
You mean the days back when as kids we could play all over the neighborhood, and beyond sometimes, without any fears as long as you were home by supper time?
Double sigh , those were the days indee…
