I grew up in a house that we discovered later on was a Sears house. Looking at the pictures, one can see many familiar models.
Edit: to add, Montgomery Ward or Monkey Ward as we called them when we were little, also had home kits for sale through …
Thanks for posting this Old_Skeet. I thought I would bump this up due to the overload of threads today.
Perhaps Ms. Yellen is taking a page out of the Greenspan book by using certain words to describe functions. I actually enjoy the media banter t…
We have talked about Sears before and I have heard about the real estate value. To me, this fund is holding a dinosaur with no place to get rid of it. This is a popular fund here at MFO but due to the Sears chunk of the portfolio, not a fund I would…
Good Morning Old_Skeet. I don't think that market dip will happen today. Earlier most of Asia was green. The China indexes took some small losses. Everyone else for the most part kept the bull market going.
Early futures in the US show another ope…
Switching from Google.ph to the regular Google.com gave me access. Copyright differences? Who knows.
Just now Bloomberg had a headline on the tube that Yellen hints the Fed may raise rates due to better jobs numbers. Just the other day the headli…
It defaults to Google.ph here. But since it is a subscriber only content I'll stay away.

@Crash, I believe you. I keep seeing headlines here …
I guess it depends on who you believe. This was linked on the 18th.

@Bitzer,
Doing some research on RAFI since I wasn't familiar with this. Actually not a bad way to go. PLVDX also has some Africa/Middle East countries in the mix. They refer to them as EMEA.
Gross is the bond guy at Pimco. I wouldn't know how muc…
I am considering upgrading. I have the 4s at the moment. The fingerprint sensor sounds like it works perfect. I also hope the NFC is bundled with the iPhone 6.
I do believe the split brought the price down to where the average joe decided to buy. …
I cannot argue with @DiphcOracl 's assessment. While the ranks of computer type jobs expand these are just a small sector of the total labor pool. As we have seen in the auto industry, automation and robots have eliminated a large number of jobs. Th…
I agree. I never associated emerging markets with low volatility. I did not know what RAFI meant. Another new catchphrase. AR I assume means Absolute Return.
Maybe they thought it looks cool to name it like that?
Sorry to the OP for the derailmen…
It has not been around long enough for any kind of review. There has been some discussion here regarding Pimco and their recent troubles. If you understand how derivatives work which is what this fund is for the most part, then you are smarter than …
I would guess that the number of people applying for SS-Disability is a large part of that 3.5%. Workers over 50 who were laid off and could not find work until their UE ran out. Disability became a out for them rather than taking a min. wage job.

@Old_Joe,
I saw where you were coming from. I was trying to make the statement for both sides. Your state can easily change the rules tomorrow and do exactly what WA state did.
Another factor, albeit a small one is the tax credits given to electr…
In WA state years ago, it was common knowledge that the gas tax went to the maintenance and building of roads and highways. We even had signs at the construction sites that said "Your Tax Dollars at Work".
Over time the state government started to…
It is my belief ( IIMB) that with today's web speak and acronym filled chats, most people use them prolifically as a kind of defensive speech. Also they are easier to type in this internet world of today. In the days of old when we used to talk face…
MACSX is a excellent fund. The volatility will be more than say a SP500 fund but over the long haul she will be pleased. As for international exposure, I like 30% or more. I have about 35% exposure in my portfolio.
Here in the Philippines, the families that are able will have the expectant mother fly to the US, mostly California where they have their baby. One reason there is steady passenger traffic between the US and the Philippines is that green card holder…
That makes sense since the US is not so built up condo wise compared to some other countries.
That is a very smart plan indeed. If priced right they would have no problem attracting students to rent. It is not stereotyping , it's a good financial …
Rjb112, I think you are correct. I don't believe the Fed is attempting some sort of financial social engineering here. If that were the case, then would the opposite hold true as the Fed slowly raises rates?
The Fed wanted to stimulate the economy…
One thing that caught my eye was the richer Chinese sending their kids to universities around the world. In most cases, the parents will buy a condo for that kid so he/she has a good place to stay. These are high end condos. With tens of thousands o…
That might be a tough order STB. MAINX currently has 16% in India fixed income. There are other emerging market bond funds but this is the only one off the top of my head that is Asia focused.
In hindsight if someone was dollar cost averaging and paid no attention to the collapse in NAV, they picked up a bunch of shares at fire sale prices.
But for most, this looks like a classic whiplash and I suspect a lot of investors got caught.
I am finding more and more that the S&P is becoming less important in tracking fund performance and the Nasdaq is becoming more of the comparison standard. It's a slow and quiet change.
Anyone else sensing the same?
It would be fun to be the fly on the wall in the meeting where they decide on a name for a new fund. Today's offerings have to have a buzz word or catch phrase in order to attract investors. Tactical, strategy, hedged, looks like Catalyst decided on…
Thank you David for speaking with Ms. Kong. A lot of valuable information there from a 45 minute interview. As a shareholder of MAINX, I feel very good about the fund and the company and people behind it.
It was enlightening to read that Ms. Kong …
