regrets and thanks!

Hi, guys.

I wanted to pass along two bits of regrettable news. First, the discussion board was offline for about 13 hours on March 2 and our host's fix took the whole site offline for several hours. We're still pressing them for details. Second, their fix involved rolling the site back to its February 28 backup, which meant losing our March 1 content. So if your favorite bit of Hegseth-hating disappeared, it's not a targeted strike. It's part of "it all disappeared." (NB: Hegseth is off-topic, please.)

And thanks to OJ, Joe and the other Joe - there seems to be a theme here - for the quick notifications of the problem. They began arriving around 1:00 a.m. and Chip shifting into damage control as soon as she was able to grab her first mug of the day around 6:30 a.m.

We're continuing to monitor and beginning to negotiate with Claude Code about learning Vanilla. (sigh)

The March issue is imminent!

David

    Central time 4:50pm

Edit/Add. I noticed that MFO came on in the afternoon, but times shown in this thread are all morning times. So, this was a quick check and the TIME STAMP IS WRONG.
  • It got past me this time but that has also happened in past "reboots". Patterns... we like to find patterns in stuff...

  • Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Thank you @davidsnowball and @chip,

2:50 pm.Pacific standard time. MFO has returned. It is okay to lose one day content, March 1st. Most importantly that we get back online.
  • Grateful, as ever, Dr. David.
  • Testing server time...

    Testing server time...

I re-synched our server to match real-world time.

  • pretty quick. Not as quick as I've seen it, normally...
  • @Crash- can you please advise on "pretty quick"? Do you mean the general site response time?

(The "server time" is only the time stamp of posts.)
  • Oh, OK. Then I misundertook what was intended. ;)
  • Sadly one thing lost in the reboot was ... well, most of the March issue. Spent last night reconstructing it. We think it's intact now, hopeful of launching tonight.
  • Very sorry about that David. I really know the feeling when a whole lot of work just goes down the drain right in front of your eyes.
  • Thanks David and chip. Wasn't quite time for the ides of March so maybe things will get better. You don't know how much we, the helpless but hopeful, appreciate you.
  • @Old_Joe As a retired plumber your comment. I really know the feeling when a whole lot of work just goes down the drain right in front of your eyes.
    Made my day!
    Thanks OJ
