  • Herr Trump is suing the polling firms because he doesn't like their results. Absolutely cannot make this stuff up....
US President Donald Trump said he will include the Times Siena Poll in his ongoing lawsuit against The New York Times, calling it “fake” and biased toward Democrats. He accused major media outlets of publishing fraudulent polls to influence elections.

    https://www.livemint.com/news/us-news/trump-claims-times-siena-poll-is-fake-and-biased-over-2024-election-coverage-vows-legal-action-11769102736847.html

  • Yeah, go ahead and add that poll to your bogus lawsuit, Donnie -- because once again, your slip is showing, and you're too embarrassed to admit it.

Grampa can't let anything go, be it yesterday, last week, last year, or years ago. He just craves chaos and by stirring thing up he's guaranteed that people will be talking about him, which totally satisifies his ego. It's like everything said against him this week went in one ear and out the other while in Davos .... but when he got back to DC, he spent all night watching TV coverage praising Carney's speech, stewing, simmering, and after returning from a midnight pee thought, "huh, that Mark Carney is a bad man, how dare he not like me, so I'm going to attack Canada again." Pathetic.

Go ahead and tariff Canada 100% Donnie. See how many new homes get built without cheap wood. This will do wonders for your 'affordability' campaign, right? Such a super business jenius!

All he cares about is himself, his ego, his optics, full stop.

@rforno +1 on the impact of losing Canada's wood products.
  • AndyJ said:

@rforno, good comment on the end of importing Canada's wood products. Where does he and his moronic sidekicks think most of the lumber here comes from?

“The Lumber Fairy. People are saying ‘sir, she’s a beautiful provider of all things lumber. You must meet her sometime…”

Sorry, I am using snarky cynicism to obscure the underlying rage and anger I am feeling today about things political ….

  • This will cause gasoline prices in the midwest to go much higher due to the amount of gasoline imported from Alberta. Will he go out like his idol William McKinley??
  • TACOs will be on the menu until this guy flames out altogether.

  • Americans will just love the new price of toilet paper if this goes through.

But seriously, I'm trying to figure out where the TACO trade is on this nonsense. Earlier in the week Trump was congratulating Canada for the deal. Makes me wonder who got to Trump, and what their grift is.
  • He will likely chicken out on all or most of this proposed tariff.

    Bold added...
Trump's threat came amid an escalating war of words with Carney as the Republican president's push to acquire Greenland strained the NATO alliance. Trump had commented while in Davos, Switzerland, this week that "Canada lives because of the United States." Carney shot back that his nation can be an example that the world does not have to bend toward autocratic tendencies.

Trump later revoked his invitation to Carney to join the president's "Board of Peace" that he is forming to try to resolve global conflicts.

Trump's push to acquire Greenland has come after he has repeatedly needled Canada over its sovereignty and suggested it also be absorbed the United States as a 51st state.
  • Trump later revoked his invitation to Carney to join the president's "Board of Peace"

Well, that saved Carney a quick Billion dollars. I'll bet that he's not real unhappy about the whole thing.
  • Carney had to renounce two other citizenships to take the job he now has. That's a big price to pay. It was not REQUIRED by law. It was politically smart. Carney is THE MAN, now. The US and its leadership are, sadly, the joke.
  • I wonder how much greenbacks, taco man stuffing into his family pockets

Actually, a NYT article recently spelled it out. Orange Criminal has no shame.
  • @jafink63- The New York Times reports that Donald Trump has used his presidency to enrich himself and his family by $1,408,500,000 in just one year.

You have to give the man credit- a new high in presidential theft and gluttony.

Pelosi has been feeding her husband inside info for years, and how has he enriched them by millions? Why are both not in jail?

How does Ilhan Omar go from ZERO Net Worth to a Net Worth of $30,000,000.00 in less than 2 Years?

Why is there silence from the same people who claim to care most about corruption? That selective outrage feels performative.

The U.S. has been protecting many countries for decades. It’s reasonable to expect something in return. If they don’t like it, they’re free to turn to China and see how that works out. China has systematically taken the world’s inventions and manufacturing know-how, then flooded Western markets with the resulting products.

True. Sacrifice and leadership! Something that maga leadership is incapable of accomplishing.

    Thanks, @Crash

It does not appear that Canada has intentions of kowtowing to threats. trump cannot believe that he is not omnipotent. So, more threats, and acts that amount to harming the U.S.

Remember that there is not much time to move the needle on affordability before mid-terms. This means that trump and his minions are shooting themselves in both feet.

More tariffs to drive costs even higher. Then they brag about the income that NEW TAXES are bringing in. But, they cannot contain spending, so new debt keeps piling up.

  • @Crash. Thanks for sharing that.
  • @Crash, yes, thanks.

I believe that we can now say with 100% absolute certainty that he has run out of new ideas, and is an incompetent negotiator. Nothing left in the tank. Just fumes (tariff threats).

  • ....Yes. Not to mention that his ICE masked, anonymous, lawless gestapo goons are making war upon our own people, citizens or not. Pass the teargas, please.
  • EU and India Clinch ‘Mother of All Deals’ in Rebuff to Trump

(Bloomberg) -- The European Union and India concluded a free trade agreement after nearly two decades of negotiations, as both sides seek to deepen economic ties and offset the impact of Washington’s tariff policies.

“We have concluded the mother of all deals,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on X on Tuesday. “We have created a free trade zone of two billion people, with both sides set to benefit.” Von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa are in New Delhi to mark the moment.

  • @Mona -- Good for them!

Since last summer I've been saying that world economics, trade, and security alliances, will start to restructure to work around, or perhaps WITH, the USA, but not necessarily THROUGH it, or be dependent on it. Donnie's shown the world how fickle the US political system really is -- and how resistant it is to necessary structural change to ensure its stability.

If the Digital Euro becomes a thing, that'll be a huge red flag, imo.

Europe? What a joke. It’s been in decline for the past two decades.
The real beneficiary here is India.

Only a small fraction of Indians will ever buy high-end European goods. Europe’s main exports, vehicles and pharmaceuticals, are nonstarters. India already produces cheaper pharmaceuticals domestically, and only about 4% of its vehicles come from Europe.

The balance of advantage is clearly one-sided.

    Read https://philipskogsberg.substack.com/p/why-europe-doesnt-innovate

Lack of capital for startups and scaleups. The US and East Asia have more robust private investment ecosystems, and startups have access to more capital. In particular, a late-stage funding gap for scaleups makes it harder for them to grow as fast as their US peers.

Employee protections. In European countries, it’s generally harder for employers to fire employees, which is good for individuals but often bad for companies’ (especially startups) competitiveness and financial agility.

Employee compensation. In the EU, a startup employee's ability to easily get compensated with stock options is more complicated and highly taxed than in the US.

Regulatory barriers and higher taxes. The EU has a higher regulatory density, tax rates, and a more heavy-handed government policy than the US.

Lack of a large, unified market. Despite the EU's single market and geographic proximity, the European market is fragmented with many different national bureaucratic processes and legal frameworks.

Lower R&D spend and innovation. While there are national and EU-wide innovation initiatives like Horizon Europe, the EU spends considerably less on R&D as a share of GDP compared to the US.

Risk-averse and “lazy” working culture. The perception is that Europeans are generally more risk-averse or less entrepreneurial and prefer more leisure time to making money.

@Anna and @rforno, thank you. Great alliance and future trading partner.

In 2026 the developed and EM indexes are ahead of US already. Let the race begins.
