trump on 60 minutes

edited November 3 in Off-Topic
Is there an unwritten rule in reporting or journalism that the reporter cannot just come out and say "Look dipshit you know that's a lie." He can't open his mouth without lying and I find it insulting and demeaning. With apologies for being so ignorant why won't anyone call him out?

  • Ha !!! I didn't count the number of times I cursed and gave him the big finger during that bullshit program. I suspect CBS and all of the entanglements caused them to 'air' such a shit show. What were they expecting ???
  • Dam happy I missed that episode !
  • Makes two of us, Derf.
  • Michael Jochum On the 60 Minutes Comedy Hour:

    "60 Minutes of Lies
Donald Trump sits down on 60 Minutes, the supposed premier showcase of “serious journalism,” and lies his ass off for an hour without being challenged once. He claims he “ended seven wars,” and the interviewer just nods along like a bobble-headed tchotchke in the back window of a MAGA golf cart.
    Seven wars?
He didn’t end seven coffee breaks.
    Not one follow-up.
    Not one interruption.
    Not one simple, obvious:
    that’s bullshit.
And after that 60 Minutes dog-and-pony show, the media that I was already done with long ago once again validated exactly what I’ve been feeling all along.
Instead of coddling a dyed-in-the-wool abusive narcissistic neo-fascist, the media needs to tear Trump the fuck apart.
Reporting the absolute truth, calling his fucking lies what they are, calling Trump what he IS, calling his dictatorial aspirations what they ARE, is the single most pro-American, patriotic, honorable thing the press can possibly do.
    Expose him.
And let him fall on his own sword.
Stop trying to wedge what he is into a version of “politics” that no longer exists.
This isn’t politics, it’s domestic terrorism dressed up in a red tie.
    Trump is not “controversial.”
    He’s not “divisive.”
    He’s not “a disruptor.”
He is a pathological liar, the most thoroughly documented serial liar in modern human history.
Fact-checks show he lies between 60–75% of the time.
That’s not political spin, that’s clinical pathology.
    He lies about everything.
    His weight.
    His height.
    His crime.
    His guilt.
    His sexual assaults.
    His losses.
    His failures.
He lies because lies are currency.
He lies because lies are power.
He lies because lies erase accountability in real time.
And the worst part isn’t even his lying, it’s the tens of millions who hear the lies, see them, know them, and simply do. not. care.
    That is fascism’s gasoline.
    He is an authoritarian.
    He is a criminal.
    He is a con man.
    He is a sexual predator.
    He is an insurrectionist.
    He is a psychopath.
Why would any rational human believe a damn syllable that comes out of that mouth?
    60 Minutes gave him a megaphone, not a cross-examination.
Over ten million Americans stood in the streets on No Kings Day, unafraid to call him what he is.
If a reporter can’t muster 1% of that courage sitting three feet from him in a studio chair, maybe hand the mic to someone who still believes journalism is a responsibility, not a performance.
Believe him when he shows you who he is.
    -Michael Jochum"

  • Who was the 60 Minutes interviewer?
  • @Mark is quite right in what "should have happened", and actually might have happened 20 years ago.

If that happened now, CBS would be out of business, one way or another, very shortly.

Welcome to the world's newest banana republic.
  • @Crash - Norah O'donnell (Who I expected way more from)
  • I'm sure Norah was handcuffed by CBS "management" since they have been bullied and intimidated by the Orange Ogre. The interview must have been edited to death.

You can't even trust the (old) 3 major networks at this point.
  • My point, exactly.
  • That's sad. i recall when she was covering Election Night on MSNBC.
  • That new right-wing nutjob that heads content has passed out the kid gloves with orders to treat Dump with the respect he doesn't deserve. That was pathetic. I haven't seen the CBS eve news program in quite a while; I'm (mildly) interested to see what they've done to John Dickerson, who used to be a good reporter/interviewer.

John Dickerson has decided to leave CBS at the end of the year.

Certainly other CBS reporters will leave voluntarily or be forced out under the new regime.
Walter Cronkite is spinning in his grave!

Sometimes, things turn to shit in EVERY direction. The extended family has been severely affected by the Typhoon rampaging through the central Philippines today. Rooves blown off, severe flooding. Interim report: The new-ish house in the hills is surviving very well. We'll see what the case is after the thing is finished and moves on. Signal 4 Typhoon. (1-5 scale.)
  • In the Philippines I weathered a significant typhoon way out on Palawan Island when in the Coast Guard and I was about 20. Quite a memorable experience. Tore the tops right off many palm trees. Took out our sister Loran station, which was closer to the center of the storm.

About a year after I had returned to the States our Loran Station on Palawan took a direct hit from another typhoon... tore the roofs off the cinder-block buildings, leveled the Loran antennas, saturated all of the tube-type Loran equipment, and put the station out of commission for quite a long time.
  • @Old_Joe. I recall you were out there. Bogo, northern Cebu, was hit, a few weeks ago. Our turn, this time. Stinky poopy.
  • John Dickerson has decided to leave CBS at the end of the year.

Good catch. That's the nail in the coffin for actual journalism at CBS.
