Newsom blasts deployment of National Guard (by 47) to LA as ‘purposefully inflammatory’

Comments

  • Martial Law is next. Are you ready for a Marcos-like takeover of the country from within our own gov't? Perhaps the Orange Thing was legitimately elected, but the entire totality of what the gummint and it's agencies (and FAKE agencies: "DOGE") have been doing are illegitimate, ill-conceived, and the expected public reaction will now be used as a pretext to grab all power. We are, as I have said before, all fucked. Third World Banana Republic Shit-hole country. And the Silence from the Repugnants in the Congress is a deafening roar.
  • Kent State here we come...

I hope I awake to calm. The folks in L.A. are not causing problems.
EDIT: I understand this morning that there were incidents of civil disobedience on Saturday.
Vandalism and related against private and other property is wrong. But, there are always some 'I don't care' in these large groups. Sadly, this takes away from the real and positive intent of a protest.
  • Neil Young will be writing a song about what happens next. Just like the grim classic “ Four dead in Ohio. The inevitability of this is so predictable. Kent State when I was a young man and now this will be a sad bookend.

Gov. Newsom is correct - these actions are clearly inflammatory.
Hegseth has threatened to deploy active-duty Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton on American soil.
MAGA Republican megalomaniacs seem intent on establishing a police state.
  • It will be interesting to see if Mr Market ignores these events. Seems pretty likely.

David Crosby passed away a year ago. He would get “Ohio” going all over again.

It is 4pm here in the west coast. The future market continues to change. Dollar index down a bit to below 99.10. Check on treasury auction for Monday, June 9, 2025. The 10 years and 30 years treasury notes auction REOPEN again. In May the 20 years treasury auction failed to sell well, and that is alarming that indicates investors have loss appetite of treasury. The credit downgrade to AA by Moody from Aaa to Aa1 indicates a potential increase in borrowing costs for the U.S. government. Think I will put my money in Nordic countries where they have much better deficits-to-GDP ratio.

Wish that CrossingBridge fund was NTF at Schwab, my broker.
  • At Sven. Thanks for that link. I was horrified that I was having a senior moment and looked it up. Neil Young wrote it and CSN&Y recorded it. I was pretty politically active at the time and the events at Kent State were very upsetting. That song nailed it and the famous picture captured the moment.
  • Does anyone doubt we will have another Kent State event in the next 90 days? Clearly the regime relishes the opportunity … they don’t even hide it,,, just like the grift. It’s all out in the open.
  • @larryB I hope not. I am afraid the people in the country might cheer instead of get horrified. I don't want that fear confirmed. I just don't want to know. So, I hope no one gets a Kent State event.
  • @Anna. I hope not as well. I think we need to be realistic about what who we are dealing with. The regime and followers of the regime would cheer. Your fears are an appropriate response. Look,,, the SecDef is itching to unleash the Marines. Who will stop him? It’s a two fer for the regime,,,, a distraction from the new budget and red meat for the base.

I sympathize with the protestors but things got out of hands too as several vehicles were burned and stores being damaged. Let’s not give the national guards/Trump the reason to escalate the conflict and make the matter worse. The news is well covered across multiple media.

@larryB, Read somewhere that David Crosby wrote the song Ohio, had it cut in the studio, and released it as a single within days. The lyrics accurately depicts the tragedy taken place at Kent State. These students protest peacefully against the Vietnam War. I do believe many people have learned from this tragic mistake.
