Trump announces he will nominate Rep. Matt Gaetz to be attorney general
He is obviously appointing his loyalists to positions, qualified or not. I'm guessing qualification is not a consideration for Trump because he believes he is the supreme decision maker anyway and he makes the final judgments. The appointed are just figureheads. One's that will do and say anything to keep him on a pedestal for their own gains, politically and financially.
Also all appointments have to get past John Thune, the new Senate majority leader, who easily defeated Rick Scott in the Senate leadership election today. Every Republican Senator, except the 8 that supported Rick, have a vested interest to not let their power dilute and not to become a victim. They all know what McCarthyism looked like when Senator McCarthy controlled only limited resources (unlike the President and his cabinet).
By not electing a divided government, Americans may get an opportunity to relearn lessons they may have forgotten.
I think that 13 voted for Rick Scott but he was 1 vote short of advancing. And, then a we know, John Thune beat John Cornyn in the runoff.
MAGA was pushing hard for Rick Scott. He was the CEO of Columbia/HCA (now HCA Healthcare), the largest hospital chain in the US. He had to resign because of rampant Medicare fraud in the company, which ultimately paid $1.7 billion in fines. No wonder why MAGA loves him and why he is the wealthiest Senator.
Good attitude cause we ain’t seen nothing yet. Best to conserve energy. You can not win if you do not survive which requires being humble which means not taking it personally.
My suggestion to everyone is help if you can when someone needs help; otherwise, watch it like a movie.
Utter disgust here. I'm going to find a subterranean cavern and hide from this disaster. Come get me when it's over. Totally dangerous, heinously corrupt, suck-hole "administration." We are doomed. And guess what? "The general public doesn't even know what's going on, and they don't know that they don't know what's going on." ---Noam Chomsky.
I think the lower 40% of the population that voted him in are fine with any kind of disruption he brings, even if it ends up being at their own expense. Blind, misplaced faith.
Even Orange was surprised he won this time. He pulled it off. Adolf himself would be impressed.
When does Steve Bannon get an office now? And Roger Stone, yet another convict?
Democrats are seeking to clarify language in the Constitution to make sure the two-term limit for presidents applies even if the terms are not consecutive.
".....President-elect Donald Trump, who reportedly joked with House Republicans on Wednesday about running for a third term in 2028. “I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say, ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out,’” he told the group.
In July, Trump also mused about remaining in the Oval Office indefinitely, telling attendees at a conservative Christian event that they “won’t have to vote anymore” if he won the 2024 election.

Yes, 13 voted for him in the secrete first round vote. But only 8 publicly supported him which means the other 4 did not want their identity divulged because they were more concerned about self preservation. I think Scott was 3 shy of getting into the run off because Cornyn received 15 in the first round. Cornyn and Thune are considered the establishment candidates which is reflected in the close run off tally of 29-24. I think the party establishment were confident of defeating Scott; otherwise, they probably would have asked / brokered one of them [Thune or Cornyn] not to contest. (The small State of S. Dakota provided 2 Senate majority leaders in two decades, the other one being Daschle! [and then there is Noem! May be nurturing ambition is in S. Dakota waters.])
I think Rubio's replacement process via the Gov (DeSantis) is going to be some drama. Vance's replacement process may not have as much drama.
The House of Reps seats coming vacant because of the holders taking up administrative positions will have fresh elections.
[BTW, winning elections and governing are two different things. I am guessing with prior experience, 2.0 could be less chaotic for Trump. We have to see which is better (1.0 vs 2.0) for the country.]
Well, that will give him the experience that he needs to become Trump's man in charge of pardons. That newly created position will pay almost as much as Attorney General.
Then Gaetz can pardon Giuliani, and he can be the AG!
See, this stuff isn't all that hard once you get the hang of it.
"They saw it coming and got to Gaetz- 'take yourself out of the running and we'll find something really good for you later'".
Considering the circumstances, this is entirely plausible. If the allegations against Gaetz are true, he's just another privileged scumbag who abused his position. Pity that the House Ethics Committee report will almost certainly be buried now.
Just found this: Gaetz resigned from the current, 118th Congress. But the Florida congressman was reelected this month to the 119th Congress and could take his seat come Jan. 3. Republicans will have a narrow majority in which every seat could matter.

Just goes to show - in Florida, they don't really care about "draining the swamp", do they?
Trump just named Pam Bondi, a former Florida Attorney General, as his pick for U.S. Attorney General. No offense meant to Floridians, but the "Sunshine State" seems to be teeming with swamp creatures!
From Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from an American dated 11/21/2024:
"Today, former Florida representative Matt Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration for the office of attorney general. He did so shortly after CNN told him that they were going to report that the House Ethics Committee had been told there were witnesses to yet another sexual encounter between Gaetz and a minor in 2017. There was already evidence that he had sent more than $10,000 to two women who later testified in sexual misconduct investigations. The notes explaining the payments said things like: 'Love you,' 'Being my friend,' 'Being awesome,’ and 'flight + extra 4 u.'”

Please don't tell me where Marjorie Taylor Greeene fits into this sh**show. Its like an ongoing joke with no end in sight.
It's tough to have to standby while democracy falls by the wayside. All for 1 orange dude who has gamed the system. All hail the leader.
A wonderful con man.
Tell me... I've already started ignoring anything to do with our government.

There'll be lots of good jobs available for Gaetz et al after Musk and Ramaswamy fire all the civil service workers as they have promised.

What to know about the Matt Gaetz investigation
