Trump picks crypto backer Paul Atkins as new SEC chair
@Old_Joe: you and I missed out on the latest stuff a long time ago. Several years ago our well pump had to be replaced by a guy who came right away on a sunny Winter day. He told me what I owed him (a lot) and then said he would accept Crypto. He explained how legitimate such a transaction would be, etc. I, of course, felt dumb and out of it.
Today I saw on CNBC a graph tracing Crypto’s 1,306% rise since inception and I realized that the world has long since passed me by. My well repair, assuming the guy had kept the fee, is probably worth enough today to buy a nice new car.
Paul Atkins is a corporate securities/M&A lawyer who has been a SEC staffer (1990-94) and SEC commissioner (2002-08). Recently, he has been assisting the SEC in tracking down corporate fraud.
He seems supportive of cryptos, but we have to wait so see what he actually does. Remember when Gensler was going through his confirmation, many noted that he was teaching cryptos at MIT and hoped that he would be supportive of cryptos (there was even a brief rally in cryptos), but he turned out to be totally anti-crypto.
My COIN is doing well so far (but lagging Bitcoin). If cryptos turn out to be digital hot air, COIN is at least in the business of handling that hot air as exchange, dealer-broker, custodian.
