Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Like many of you, I wondered about the lack of dividend last time, and considered getting out. But their quarterly report sounded reasonable, so I decided to wait and watch before jumping. At this point it's up 7% & change YTD. Any thoughts on why, or what to do at this point?
It was my impression investors were more upset over Matthews' lack of candor than over the absence of the dividend itself. I am holding my position, may add to it.
I'll reserve comment on this one until the ex-date. Because Asian corporate accounting methodology generally leads to lower dvd distributions in the beginning of the year (our yr)(I can't recall who pointed this out to us--- was it Andrew Foster?), I'm not expecting much. However, if it's once again ZERO, then I'll have a (slight) difference of opinion with you guys about the easy-peezy posture you're adopting toward MAPIX. I think it's a big deal.
@Mark: Ever since I stoled a lunch bag from a guy sitting next to me in high school, my math skills have diminshed. I can't remember his name, but his first name started with a A and his last I believe with an E. Regards, Ted
Sorry Ted, just trying to keep the facts straight. I wasn't the guy sitting next to you, I'm my own breed of A-hole. Thank you for correcting/editing your earlier post.
Like I said before, Ted, sometimes you drive me nuts. But that's OK. You need to increase your post lengths a bit though, to get up to the recommended mandated 40 words.
If you're the Federales, then where's your badges??? So, MAPIX declares a div, of $0.01855 cents. Where I come from, that's less than .02 cents. That's pretty LEAN. Anyway, I'm already out of MAPIX and Matthews, as of early February.
I reduced MAPIX early last year and invested with Andrew Foster's Seafarer fund. Likely will repeat again this year. Lack of transparency (or clarity) in their reporting is really unfortunate.
From the Sept 2014 MAPIX fact sheet (and as currently stated on the MAPIX home page, and presumably in the fund's prospectus):
Investment Objective Total return with an emphasis on providing current income. (my emphasis) @Maurice@Old_Joe After assessing the past half-year of performance, how would you rate the fund in terms of following its stated investment objective: (1) success, (2) short of the mark, (3) fail?
Strategy {..} the Mathews Asia Dividend Fund seeks to achieve its investment objective by investing at least 80% of its total assets {...} in income-producing securities of companies located in Asia, {...}. The Fund seeks to provide a level of current income that is higher than the yield generally available in Asian equity markets over the long term. (my emphasis) @Maurice@Old_Joe After assessing the past half-year of performance, how would you rate the fund in terms of adhering to its stated strategy for achieving its investment objective: (1) success, (2) short of the mark, (3) fail?
If one had purchased shares on the Sept dvd ex-date, the dvd distributed for the past 6 months would be 0.01855 (and no CGs to reinvest); using that ex-date NAV, one's dvd yield, annualized, would be ___? (hmm, I had no idea "the yield generally available in Asian equity markets" had declined so precipitously)
Hi Old Joe! Sorry to be late to the party. It's that working thing -- MAPIX -- it was -- it is -- and will be its core.......No, no no, not Coors, you silly dog! God bless! the Pudd
