FWIW, we are on our third Subaru, the current one being an Outback. Subaru's are not inexpensive, but they are very well made, very comfortable, lots of head and legroom (especially the back seats) for those of us tall people with long legs, and among the safest of all brands. The new models have some really nice optional features. Gas mileage is not great (in fact the only thing we are not thrilled with), but with cheap gas now it is not an issue. We have owned three different models: Tribeca, Forester, and Outback. They all had great ability in snow, ice, mud. And we feel safe in a Subaru.
