Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
A detailed article in this morning's Wall Street Journal provides comprehensive additional information on the 737 Max problems.
Here are excerpts from that excellent report:

@Ted: I'm sorry to see that evidently you are no longer able to discern speculation from factual reporting.
Suggestion: Try reading the above post a few more times, and hopefully you will be able to partially overcome your increasingly evident men…

The POINT was retiring in your mid-thirty's with no further earned income. That's a long way from 85 minus "several years". If you had retired with no income when you were 35 how exactly would you now have a home with no mortgage?
"Saw her long time ago during a PBS donation drive." Likewise, and I never did care for her. Nevertheless, the question that she was answering postulated retiring "in your 30's". Assuming no significant inheritance, no further employment, no accumul…
I'm sure you guys are right about the insignificance of electric and hybrid on a national basis. Here in the SF Bay Area though it seems as if every fourth vehicle is either electric or (especially) hybrid. Lots of hybrids, mostly the Toyotas.
Perhaps you guys are misguided. I'm pretty sure that billionaires must be making our lives much better, easier and fairer, or Ted wouldn't have said that. I'll get back to you in a while when I figure out how they are doing all that.
@hank- Well, a reluctant "congratulations" from me can't really disguise my great disappointment at your having received Ted's 'Stupid Statement Award Of The Decade' trophy. Because of my age, there's now almost no chance that I'll live long enough…
To my knowledge there isn't a general purpose mass-transit system (buses or trams) in the entire world that entirely pays for itself via the fare box without additional subsidy. Not one. (This excludes special-purpose systems, such as city-to-airpor…

Well, if Ted thinks that the WSJ is a "boy", I guess he really is losing it. While the WSJ article did indeed earlier say 1.7%, I see that it has now been corrected to 1.9%.
Note: It will be interesting to see how long it takes Ted to enter yet ano…

@hank- The following, from Gary's link, explains the two "optional" safety monitors:
"One of the optional upgrades, the angle of attack indicator, displays the readings of the two sensors. The other, called a disagree light, is activated if those s…
@Crash- Sure, I understood that. My question was for JohnN, who seems to be thinking that he can exploit that situation.
(V. sorry about the confusion.)
Yesterday, in a post up above, I asked a number of questions about Southwest's retrofit of an additional Angle-of-Attack malfunction indicator. That modification adds a warning light if the two AoA sensors, which are the primary inputs for the MCAS,…
