Additional commentary on the referenced article:
This article has a number of pictures of the stabilizer controls:
The caption under these pictures states:
"Normal electric trim control on the yoke can stop the MCAS-driven stabilizer movement, …
A WSJ reader posted a comment yesterday regarding the "MCAS" system which is under intense scrutiny as the possible cause of the two crashes.
That comment referenced a very interesting aviation news article, with an excellent and detailed explanati…
@hank- What an excellent question! Can that "Stab Trim" switch be repeatedly "reset" by the MCAS?
I don't know the answer, but if that is true, what a damned nightmare.
@Derf- I think that what Mark is saying is that if you have constructed a portfolio to supply needed income, the short-to-medium changes in actual NAV are unimportant. That seems right to me.
Even your cheating doesn't work, Ted. No post that you have artificially boosted into the "Comment+" section has generated even one honest comment from another viewer. Even with all of your cheating your viewer numbers are pathetic.
Regards
OJ

An article today in "The Middle Seat" column of the Wall Street Journal has a couple of interesting aspects. First, it appears that Southwest Airlines has installed additional monitoring equipment for the suspected angle-of-attack sensors:
"Southw…

Well, consistency was never one of @Ted 's strong points. Especially with a completely different rule set for himself and everyone else. (In fairness, I guess Ted is consistent in having two different rule sets... that's another way of looking at th…
Here's a few short excerpts from that Washington Post article that @hank mentioned. I focused on these because of the similar issues facing Airbus.
"Airbus equips many of its commercial jets with its own anti-stall software that relies on an automa…
@hank- thanks much for that info. I was trying to explain exactly that to my wife the other evening, and when I got to the part about the forward placement of the engines I stopped cold, thinking exactly the same thing about a probable increase to t…
@MikeM- Yessir. Back in November, following the first Lion-Air crash, I said:
"Let's make some major changes in automation, allow the aircraft to override pilot control during critical maneuvers, and let's not tell anyone about all of this. Pilots …

@hank- Thanks much for this additional info... VERY interesting. And just to confirm to @Ted that I'm not oblivious to the faults of Democratic administrations (as he seems to think) let me point out that the FAA certification for the "737 Max" air…
@Mark- Perhaps because Old_Skeet may have a number of different brokerage and Fund-Family accounts, each of which may have it's own MM fund. Much easier to transfer funds internally than to route money between different institutions.
In our case we…
@Old_Skeet- Yes, exactly what I've done, but to a much greater degree than would be appropriate for younger folks. At 80, we've accumulated enough to coast for the distance without the need for much risk.
But if the market does a major drop in the …
You don't need my "permission" to do anything, @Ted. But when you cheat to artificially boost your links into the "Comments +" section, you'd better believe that I'll call you on that.
I agree with @Ted on this one. Keep it simple, go with the market: 50/50 SPY and QQQ. The fancy stuff may work for a while due to some particular combination of market circumstances, but in the long haul there's just no consistent magical way to bea…
Here is the latest from The Washington Post on the 737 situation. Following are lightly edited excerpts from the Washington Post article:

@VintageFreak- Well, maybe. One thing though... if it does happen it's going to be one of the shortest wars in history. Three months max. And San Francisco will be back to sand dunes. This time though, radioactive sand dunes.
The New York Times is reporting that "investigators at the crash site of the doomed Ethiopian Airlines flight have found new evidence that points to another connection to the earlier disaster involving the same Boeing jet."
Edited excerpts from th…

@JoJo26- I guess it's what you choose to believe. From the article:
