I find PRBLX to be one of the most comfortable funds to own for many reasons. But I'm quite comfortable with all my stocks, funds except fixed income so I hold about 13% cash.
Not a trader but still time to raise a little cash. Sold PSX a spinoff from COP last year which is long time holding. Sold SCHV,SCHX and VXF. Just cutting back on equities with large gains in IRAs. I was thinking about reducing PEP and PG but did …
Over the past 2 weeks I've had the largest total gain I can ever remember. While most funds are doing well the gains have come from long time holdings in a few stocks, some as long as 20- 35 years. BA, PCP, PEP, NOV. Since these are large positions…
The most difficult issue I have is bonds. At age 80 I should be 70-80% in fixed income and just as I began increasing fixed income from a low level, the bond market went nuts so I stopped adding. It was a great time to have been in stocks but can't …
Frankly, I like the U.S., I understand it more, not a lot but more than other markets. I own some foreign but only with managers who are diversified. At our age who needs more confusion.
Somehow we never forget the mistakes made by our fund managers, at least I don't forget. Nygren was one of them, another were the managers of Dodge Stock fund. After I sold I never looked back. Maybe I was also wrong.
We own FMIMX and these 2 mid-cap ETF's, so you don't really need to have a managed fund, do you? IJJ and VXF will do just fine.

The only bond fund I have that didn't go down was FEHIX - it was unchanged.
Makes you think, while we all know bonds will come back, don't know when, but loosing a penny or two etc. most ever day makes me think, why not just put it mostly in high yi…
Reply to @Ted, you might like this one now, the old Gift Trust fund makeover. Has done quite well since then. I bought this as gift trust, starting about 28 years ago and again 4 more times. My first grandson cashed his in about 7 years ago which b…
David, outstanding commentary. So much to read and study. Thank you.
I don't know but I would think emerging markets equities and bonds are closely correlated? Also, ODMAX which is closed to new investors, would be on that list if opened.
Hrux, I think there are very good comments from this group. I don't know anything about you personally but doesn't affect my one idea, that is to offer one suggestion for a Global fund since I recently purchased OAKGX. It is managed by a favorite …
Reply to @Mark: Agree for mutual funds but not for individual stocks. Don't think it should be more than 4-5% for a solid company, less for speculative.
Reply to @BobC: Perhaps you read this article from Schwab.

How do you do this with your bond funds Bob?
Reply to @TonyGstring: "Why not OAKWX, managed by Nygren AND Herro; the best of both worlds in the Oakmark tree."
Good question Tony but Select has fewer stocks and more concentration. I've never been a big fan of Nygren.
Reply to @slick: Have been looking at both OAKIX or OAKGX to buy. Decided on OAKGX. The mgr. is Mcgregor, who also manages OAKBX which I've owned. I like the idea of having a global fund with both U.S. and international. Of course Herro can't be bea…
Reply to @MikeM:
"We certainly do talk most about the funds doing best in short term returns, especially new funds. But I'm guessing DODBX, FPACX, VWELX and OAKBX are still core investments in many portfolios now and likely will be 5 years from now …
Reply to @VintageFreak: I have been reducing my positions in TIBIX. Since March the price has not gained, only the dividend reinvested has resulted in the gain and I think that is at risk for a lesser yield.
I would be inclined to forget a Global Balanced fund at this time and consider an equity income fund that has both U.S. and foreign holdings. For the global bond position, use a global bond fund managed by Templeton's, Hasenstab like TPINX (load wai…
I have been using Schwab-SCHB for my total market fund. Also has lowest ER and no commission to buy/sell at Schwab. I think you have to have a Schwab account for no com.
I also use SCHD and SCHA.
