I know you are not a fan of his, Mona (understatement :) )
Another Bills fan!!! Junkster just sent me a note saying the same. GO BILLS! They will be right down the road from me when training camp starts next week at St. John Fisher College. But tickets sold out in hours, so I won't be going. Are you from the area, Western NY?
PRWCX has been closed to new investors for a few years now. Those in it have been in it for a while, not hot money IMHO. I don't see people bailing from this fund any more than any other. At least I hope that's the case. It's by far my biggest holdi…
@Ted, in relative terms, nice! In real money, that sucks, but that's where the low interest rate market has brought us. I see the same 6 mo. CDs on Schwab's site and with their MM down to 1.77% I may join you in that buy. I expect the MM will drop f…
The best "retirement" account available if used correctly, IMHO. Tax free money in and tax free out. Using correctly for retirement would mean to let it build, don't use it for medical expenses until retirement. I believe you can even pay your Medic…
It pays to know what the rules are for your personal situation.
Totally agree @msf. I go to the free Insurance workshops every year before enrolling just to make sure I'm informed on changes, options and costs. Going next week in fact.
I don't kn…
When I left my long time 401k and rolled over to Schwab I felt better about consolidation, choices and professional help. I'm sure you will have the same good experience. I believe less funds makes for better organization, but we are all different. …
@Art, you may not want to take much risk with your nest egg just before you retire, so I would be inclined to go conservative the next 6 months until you are able to rollover and set up the portfolio the way you want it for long term retirement. Yea…
It's how you interpret the why. Why? "I'm changing address because I am moving". General, but I'm guessing that is all you need to state. My point though is they are asking by law and for their and your safe guard, not to be pricks and not to single…
We're all different, but this is exactly what most mutual fund investment return data shows to be why 'investor return' does not even come even close to 'fund actual performance'.
3) ...by looking at 1-3-12-36 months good risk/reward and then selec…
Let's look at a scenario that is, very likely, very common with the bad guys.
- the bad guy obtains enough information about you (including ss#, address, and whatever else needed) and opens an account in your name. With all the security leaks we he…
Hi @Puddnhead. One that I took a look at after one of David's commentaries and decided to put in my withdrawal bucket for now is AOUAX. Somewhat in place of the low CD rates available now. The take I get is that it is a similar strategy to IOFAX but…
Thanks John. Not much I haven't heard here but some really good suggestions bulletized in one place. One they didn't mention and I intend to use next year is working part time in retirement, both for the extra income and the social aspect that I enj…
Well, oct. could end up being the pullback some have been anticipating, even been waiting for. Bring it on. Lets get it over with.
The Dow industrials fell 494 points, or 1.86%, following a 1.3% decline Tuesday. Those declines put the index on pace…
That is surprising that Ameritrade doesn't have a MM to stash cash. Schwab's MM, SWVXX, continues to drop. It's at 1.84% now. Was at least a 1/2% more earlier this year.
@Derf, it's my play money and I trade stock as a fun hobby. I've never though of giving it a cute name. I believe spiff is just a made up acronym, isn't it?
Yes. willing to wait and willing to pass on a buy. My not so technical method is to make sure the a stock I'm interested in has a lot of buy or out-perform ratings with different rating summary's I get through my Scwhab account. Then all I do is ch…
Interesting @Crash. Good luck with your play. I tend to call all stock purchases 'play' because for me I'm playing a bet - kind of fun. I remember checking out your Bombardier stock and to me MFC looks a lot better.
Question, how did you pick your…
No advice @Art except to settle on some kind of benchmark suitable to age, circumstance and temperament.
Your "no advice" is good advice @hank. I would also suggest not to be to concerned about individual funds but look at how those funds fit in an …
Still don't get the connection @Simon, where a direction in an equity index could give a contrarian signal to buy or sell managed equity funds. Quite frankly, I only see the 2 moving in the same direction. Maybe at different slopes but certainly up …
@Simon, how does using indexes as a contrarian indicator work? If most managed funds mimic or can't beat an index, why is that a buy signal for managed funds?
@BenWP, have you thought about putting the sell order in with a trailing stop? That way if the trend is still upward you don't miss it. Doesn't mean you can't get whip-sawed, but one way not to cash out to early.
No-load at Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard and E-Trade.

Does anyone pay a load for any "load" fund anymore? I highly doubt it. The next class that should be eliminated is C-shares. Absolutely a rip-off.
It's been so long that I can't remember. What did people do to capture important life moments before digital came along, draw pictures? Seems like there should be a catchy phrase like, say, capture that "digital camera moment" or capture that "cell…
I suppose countries can offer negative yield bonds and they apparently do, but what if no one buys them? I would guess they would have to give up on that idea and up the yield. I see it as a current (experimental) knob to turn, but not a long term …
It is prudent to post no links @MJG, as to avoid any crossing of boundaries with first post rights.
@catch22, I see it just the opposite, post away. Comments on re-posts are silly and should be ignored.
IOFAX , the A-shares which I own, have an exp ratio of 1.75%. What is the difference if it clearly performs more consistent with higher returns than say a fund like PONAX? Ride the momentum until it ain't. When it ain't, move on.
I was happy to h…
For my very conservative withdrawal bucket which I'm building for future use, I added an ultrashort bond fund, ARMZX (actually wanted ZEOIX but it has a TF at Schwab - not doing that) and U-short ETF, FLRN. Thought I'd be renewing CDs, but they are …
I have @Derf. My home made charts show not a lot of difference though. If I wait until 70, the extra money needs to come from savings, which I plan for about a conservative 5% return. The more I take at 66 to 70 the less principle to grow. I think I…
Gold, IAU, has been my bet since December. I don't have the stomach to invest in miners. I believe gold has quite a ways still to run in these turbulent times.
Thanks for posting @davidmoran. Missed the article 1st time through. One of my fears is retiring into a bear market. Plan to quazi-retire and go part time in January. Working on establishing my 3-4 year withdrawal bucket now with MM, short and ultra…
I kind of agree with Edmund on this one. A good pullback sooner better than later works for me. It has to come sooner or later anyway. Better now than December 2020.
Yep, your right about tomatoes ... it's friut/vegtable ... thus it is a hybrid
Nope a tomato is not a hybrid. @Old_Joe is right. How, Botanically, can a tomato be both? People do refer to it as a vegetable for cooking purposes, I'll give you that.
@Crash, if you want to play you can get in at any amount of whole shares. At $1.15 per share on that stock you can spend $11.50 for 10 shares (without trading costs). Have some fun!
@Ted, I did read that about the "impossible Burger" they are trialling at Burger King. Different brand.
I can tell you, my ancestry is Polish and my mother and grandmother made the best Golumpki "ever". My daughter in law (1/2 Polish from Pittsburg…
