I know you are not a fan of his, Mona (understatement :) )
Another Bills fan!!! Junkster just sent me a note saying the same. GO BILLS! They will be right down the road from me when training camp starts next week at St. John Fisher College. But tickets sold out in hours, so I won't be going. Are you from the area, Western NY?
@Crash, try BDRBF, without the dot. That's the symbol at Schwab.
This stock is down 65% since last October. What makes it interesting to you? Just curious.
Not a lot of meat to this article :)
I actually made a play on the company, Beyond Meat, just for fun. My son in a vegetarian by marriage (his wife is a vegan). They like the product and he bought into the stock when the IPO came out earlier this y…
I understand your point @Mark, but studies show switching to "better" performing funds is a losers game. The total return will be much less than holding on to your chosen funds. I guess the trick is choosing well managed funds with a tract record a…
@Sven and @MikeW, not sure what the $700 advisor fee is at Schwab but if that is the cost it is much lower than the typical 1% of assets most-all advisors charge for sure. I do know if you have an Intelligent Portfolio account, their robo, the advis…
Wouldn't they have to send a text to verify the cell connection and verify you are who you are? There is quite a bit of fraud out there so it sounds more like they are trying to safe guard a fake account for your safety and their own. Pretty common.…
@Ted, there is a richness to having children... after they become self sufficient of course :).
Just kidding. Lots of good memories. Things they did that used to make me mad at the time we laugh about now, over a cold beer.
PONAX was cream-of the-crop years ago, but hasn't been special for a couple. Every dog has its day. For the last couple years my only domestic bond fund is IOFAX, but I'm sure at some point that will change too. Nothing stays on top forever, hence t…
Not selling anything, but I am tempted to, again, up my play in IAU (gold). Up over 18% since June 1st. I started playing in December and it didn't move a lot until summer. I'm guessing it has plenty of room in the next year to keep moving.
August…
Isn't it time to stop complaining about M* and just not use it anymore? They really don't owe any non-paying customers anything, do they? I think it was Charles who pointed out their business model is or has changed to be a platform for financial ad…
Agree with @catch22 on the banking sector but I don't know if it applies to a Canadian bank.
I had a limit order buy take affect on Tuesday for a health care stock, BDX (Becton Dickinson and Co). I was a little surprised since I put in what I thou…
I'm holding my gold play @hank probably though the year and maybe as long as the current guy in the White House is around. There are black swans roosting all over those grounds in my opinion.
What am I missing here? VSUX is nothing like DLEUX. By chance, maybe the returns have been similar, but a fund dedicated 100% to European indexes (with bells and whistles) is nothing like a diversified international fund like VSUX. DLEUX is pretty m…
I'm guessing if she chose, she could sit comfortibly in a rocker in some mansion on a beach front for the rest of her life. I also think if she chooses too, can get a lead manager job in any bond house in the industry, including Loomis.
FWIW
Article summery:
suggested investments, Emerging Markets on the equity side and corporate and mortgage backed securities for fixed income.
Trends for investors in the second half of the year:
Fed policy will be dovish.
GDP growth is slowing…
Some where between Buffalo and Rochester, driving back home from a vacation in Niagara Falls. I was 15 at the time. I remember it being on the radio as we drove.
But it seems like every time I buy gold, it fizzles and I lose money.
Don't buy, please don't buy!!! :)
I bought some IAU in December and added to it in February. Just starting to take off.
I use AKREX for that space fwiw. I have some concern with Charles' age but will cross that succession-bridge when it comes. Some good funds mentioned though.
@johnN, I've seen that you like to buy individual bonds for their yield. Do you also buy prefereds for their yield? This is a new IPO. The article is interesting and positive towards the security. Are you looking to buy into NRZ.PRA?
summary from t…
When I read this article I didn't think it was talking about investing in momentum-style funds where the manager might follow momentum algorithms he has developed. I don't think a mutual fund can respond quick enough to trend change. I assumed the …
(Folks should be aware that both Mike and I invested with Hussman once upon a time and long ago)
@hank, don't remind me! But today we are reformed Hussmanites :) We were believers in PRPFX too, although that one might still make sense if your expec…
If you continually monitor the M*, Lipper*, etc. charts and keep shifting money away from the poorer performing funds into the better performing ones in each “category” (as a good many do), than I’d say you are a “closet momentum player” - though pr…
A bit confusing with the admission that momentum investing could / does work versus the title, stay away.
If you are disciplined, especially on setting your 'stop', MO can be fun and add a bit of profit. Many here do it.
Hi @Paul. What value would this top 5 fund information give you? Would it help you determine the managers value more-so than the funds overall return. Seems like a lot of work for... what purpose.
I have no familiarity with Fidelity or Vanguard other than they have some pretty good fund and ETF options. But for the most part you can get any of those options through Schwab if you wanted. Same for TRP funds. But, that probably doesn't stand out…
My recollection may be off a little but not as much as the accolades you give this guy David. If his stock picking was so great than it must have been his portfolio management that sucked, because the returns were terrible versus other small cap fun…
You make a good point @hank. There have been plenty of funds like PRPFX. Looked great against a specific economic backdrop. Not as good as just the average balanced fund over a market cycle though. I owned it for a time also. I guess you never know.…
Those people waiting beyond 62 and then dying before the break even point bought an insurance policy for their surviving spouse. If you are married, it is even more important to wait as long as possible. If you and your spouse both don't make breake…
He doesn't even have the guts to mention the disaster that was ARIVX in this little blurb on their new site! That fund was bad because of very poor decisions made by the manager, Eric Cinnamond. My memory is that the only value he seemed to find was…
Totally agree with you Dave. Any average-Mike going to M* and seeing the portfolio break-down stating 73 percent cash is going to think the fund has hmm, let's see, oh, 73 percent cash. I guess any average-msf will take an extra hour or 2 out of t…
Don't disagree with the article, but my preference for China / Asia bonds is MAINX. I only have 2 bond funds and that is one of them. Not sure where you would go for a Brazilian bond focus.
