Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Thanks @hank for doing the legwork and posting this. From what I gather from rapidly reading from the links provided, most of those who participate on this board may not qualify for the new ETFs. The strategy appears aimed at people who have north o…
You have spoiled my Xmas shopping plans. Had planned on giving three watches to my daughters’ husbands/partner. I had forgotten about the shoes, which must surely have a good provenance befitting such high-quality footware. First I have to pull some…
@Observant1: I think you are correct about no deal on automation or any scheme to prevent erosion of the bargaining unit. STM, that the suspension of the job action permits merchandise headed to retailers for holiday shopping, but that the sides hav…
@hank: we had a really lovely stay in Asheville last fall, going on wonderful hikes in surrounding mountains, etc. Fall colors are great and contrast with Michigan’s because there is a greater variety of trees there. The history of lumbering in the …
I agree with your points, @AndyJ. I doubt there is any way to cherry-pick areas that may be “safer” than others; I would make a parallel between that strategy and trying to pick one or two stocks in hopes of an outsized gain. In order to benefit fro…
@FD1000: my daughter, who lives in W-S NC, not a storm-ravaged area, encountered closed hiking areas not far from town, for no apparent reason. Maybe authorities have not had time to inspect their local trails.
More alarming analysis from ProPublica on the issue of areas of the country that may see “abandonment.” I feel like a Cassandra, at least judging from the deafening silence greeting my previous post.

@rforno: I noticed that M* has a recent blurb on APA in a discussion of undervaluations in the energy sector. I could not track down TTL under that symbol. Is it Total or another energy company? Thanks.
@Mitchelg: I have been looking for such an animal, having owned CALF and COWZ previously. Both of them have done well at times, but COWZ can be all over the lot in market cap. The two I have stuck with through thick and thin are AIRR and PAVE. Both …
The gifts are merely the tangible (and easily grasped by the public) tip of the iceberg. It appears that the Feds have already targeted numerous people in the Adams orbit prompting almost immediate resignations (staffers, police, schools leader) whe…
League parity? I still count myself a Giants fan long after moving to MI. They are really stinking up the joint this year, but I guess someone has to be a doormat. The Lions did horribly with the overweight Matt Patricia so I extrapolate that Brian …
@WABAC, et al: an Alberta company called Flexible Solutions International (https://flexiblesolutions.com) has been trying since the early nineties to sell a product called WaterSavr that is intended to inhibit evaporation of water from bodies of wa…
Nice search @catch22. From 10” to 84” in all price ranges, up to $12,000. I had no idea our compatriots were such clever merchandisers.
@hank is right to avoid suggesting the display of the flag to express generic patriotism. Unfortunately Old Glor…
@Crash: I’m going to ME in October. Do you want me to case the joint for you? I could walk in, ask for the head honcho, tell them I “know” a big shareholder and see what kind of welcome I get. Check the peppermints in the lobby, test the level of se…
@Derf: rarely because I drive on flat terrain for the most part. I’m sure you’re right about the low percentage of drivers who use the feature. The Odyssey transmission has 8 or 9 gears to improve economy and smoothness of shifts, has a nice V6 engi…
@Derf: I believe they are called paddle shifters. My 2019 Odessey has them for optional up or down shifting. Most high performance cars have adopted them, as well. Ferrari has not offered manual for more than 10 years, nor has Jaguar.
1993 Nissan 300ZX, not my daily driver, however. I am older than @hank, younger than Old_Joe, and far prefer a stick. The newer automatics in super cars actually provide better performance than manuals, but purists still like three pedals.
Good query re: Sherman. BTW, do either of you two have a sense of how CBLDX (which I own) might behave once the Fed starts cutting? My goal with my stake is to outperform MMKs.
One tactic of right-wing (you may apply Fascist or another label) groups is to create a sense of chaos or danger from which only a « strong » leader can save the country. The more discord, the more distrust, the more disinformation, the better they …
Trump really upped his fear mongering regarding immigration. I can’t say I have ever attended one of his rallies, so maybe what he said last night is merely a repetition of his stump garbage .As I recall from my reading this is exactly what the Nazi…
IIRC, the UAW membership had hoped to recoup give-backs in previous contracts when the latest contract was negotiated. Apparently the union had to deal with disgruntled members, particularly the older ones, in selling the agreement.
What a fall from grace. In 2018 my wife and I took the elaborate tour of the Boeing factory in Everton WA. The company was then considered a jewel of American knowhow and technology. The tour guide even whooped up the stock price as evidence of the …
I found this article in the New Yorker fascinating because it addresses the issue what brings some people, who are not necessarily unintelligent or uneducated, to believe outlandish claims. It turns out that « low-information voters » appear willing…
Seems I recall DJT whining about something being « rigged. » However, I have not heard him complain about this judge, whose assignment to this case most certainly does not pass the smell, test.
@davidrmoran: does “ffs” contain a vulgarity?
I understand the “lede” of a paragraph, but what is a “lede article?” Is the reference to Snowball’s article?
Color me unable to decipher cryptic posts.
@Old_Joe and @Crash: one needs to use more than what Americans call four-letter words in order to swear in French. For instance, I might say « sh%# by itself in English, but the equivalent in French is « merde, alors. » FWIIW (not much), most imprec…
