Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Discussion boards develop personalities that are reflections of their site administrator(s) and/or active posters. So, MFO, Armchairinvesting, Big Bang, M* all feel different. All of these are "open" sites, so nonmembers can read discussions and ope…
That RMD table is OLD. Use NEW RMD tables from 1/1/22.

@LewisBraham has a piece in Barron's on this. My summary (advance preview):
"FUNDS. Post-Financial-Crisis reforms are not working for some MONEY-MARKET FUNDS. GOVERNMENT money-market funds are doing fine (AUM grew to $4.1 trillion). But PRIME money…
IMO, mistakes with TAA are not disastrous. In retirement, I try to maintain 40-60% effective-equity with TAA. And I have made mistakes in these markets - should have had 60% when had 40%, and vice-versa. But still, I did OK vs pure market-timers (10…
Pure timers are completely in or out based on signals.
On the other hand, tactical asset allocation (TAA) involves changing allocations suitably according to market assessments, and rebalancing simply adjusting to strategic/fixed asset allocation.
All this talk in DC about taming the highest inflation in 40 years has the fed fund futures traders spooked and they are now projecting 4 rate hikes (in Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) at the CME FedWatch.

@BaluBalu, I don't know of ANY firm that does that.
Some may allow scheduling one-time purchase on a later date beyond the common automatic investment plans (AIPs), but that is not triggered by prices.
I was looking at the expertise of committee members:
For Equity: US, global, EMs
For Fixed-Income: US, global
Portfolio Strategy: Quantitative, EMs
Although the word "alternatives" is not in the release, I interpret mentions of " investment questi…
It looks like that DODBX will be turned into the newer type of multi-asset funds that include stocks, bonds, alternatives. It may also become more global - the current DODBX has heavy domestic orientation. These special committees have been establis…
Bounce in cyclical energy may continue near-term, but it may be a good idea to be ready to switch to clean-energy.

Oakmark Fund, Select, Global are equity funds that do hold some cash. Nygren has value stock style. Unclear what prompted him to comment on bonds. Likewise, I don't pay attention to stock talks from bond houses (Pimco, DoubleLine, etc).
If OAKBX ma…
Ironically, MS strategists have been less bullish in their market outlook but some of MS aggressive funds are stuffed with highflying techs. May be these viewpoints can coexist with high portfolio turnovers.
Why is the OP a trial post?
I have participated in discussions here and started a handful of OPs. But I do produce content that is published elsewhere. In my recent communication with @David_Snowball, I suggested that I can tryout some content here …
As @msf noted, intraday indicated values (IIV) may be for creation/redemption baskets. With refresh every 15 sec, how stale that data can be?
Note that Precidian ETFs and several others are the newer active nontransparent ETFs. These have different…
I don't have weekend Barron's yet. But I start looking for stories on Friday that may make weekend Barron's and this one is already filed under European Trader. On PC, I get online version of the weekend issue typically by Friday 9pm. That is why I …
There is a bullish story on RIO for the weekend Barron's.

That is not what gradual changes mean. That mean that when stocks go in/out of the index, CRSP does it in a few steps over a few days (unannounced).
Weighting of LCG vs LCV is what it is for total stock market and the index provider is not obligate…
CRSP indexes make gradual changes/transitions, unlike Russell indexes that make all changes on a single preannounced date.
When MSCI was a unit of MS decades ago, Vanguard was an early client. At that time, Vanguard was having issues with S&P o…
I didn't quote anything/anybody. But I think that is the general policy of through-TDFs (Fido, Vanguard, some Price, etc), but not for to-TDFs*.
Price is trying different ideas - it has 2 TDF series (older riskier, newer more conservative). In old…
Through-TDFs have approx 50-50 allocation at the designated retirement date and their equity % keeps declining for about 7 yrs. At that point, they may merge into the income fund of the TDF series.
VG Star VGSTX is an underrated VG moderate-allocation fund. It is a passive fund of several VG active funds. It won't be at the top or bottom of moderate-allocation funds and risk of manager changes is small (unlikely that all funds will change mana…
A 15-85 or 20-80 stock-bond portfolio is also called parity portfolio that means that the SDs of stock and bond portions are nearly equal.
There are several funds/OEFs that offer this mix - FASIX, VASIX.
Hedge-fund managers may put high leverage…
Keep in mind that David Rosenberg is among generally bearish strategists and he has been so for a long while. He was formerly with ML/BoA and Gluskin Sheff. He started his own consulting in 2020.
@sma3 : "While last year floating rates, junk ( even munis) and preferreds ( and I owned some) were the place to be, I just don't believe they will do well in 2022 unless interest rates collapse, along with the economy"
FR/BL do well when rates go …
FRIFX is a good real estate hybrid - RE stocks & bonds. It did have a terrible 2020 when both real estate stocks and bonds were badly hit. It is less volatile than all-equity VNQ, FRESX, etc.
LIHKX is US-LC R1000 + foreign-LC, etc
FISPX is US-LC SP500
QASGX is US-SC-gr R2000-gr
So, he may also consider 80% LIHKX, 20% QASGX in the expectation that US-SC are better valued now and may catchup (past is past).
As a multi-asset fund, FMSDX includes stocks, bonds and alternatives. Much of alternatives ends up as "Other".
Definition of "Other" varies by sites - whatever doesn't cleanly fit their categories of stocks and bonds.
Fido lumps all non-equity fo…
Of the 9 First Eagle mutual funds, only the Fund of America FEFAX is affected by this (as is noted by name in the release without any tickers). None of the other 8 First Eagle mutual funds have Y classes.
