  • BCAT a tactical-allocation term-structure CEF (liquidation 9/25/32) that was trading at 11% discount. Probably a big change in discount.
  • @bee, now try to run 10 years to 2020, i.e. 2010-2020 (i.e. 1/1/2010-12/30/2020 under Year-to-year), but you can not. The result is truncated to 1/1/2015-12/31/2020 (well under 10 years). Then see my post just before yours - my guess is that your 10…
  • This seems an unusual bank CD, not brokerage CD, so one would be stuck with 10-yr interest penalty.
  • It seems that PV runs for the RECENT YEARS can go back only 10 years from now (i.e. 5/1/2014 in Month-to-month and 1/1/2015 in Year-to-year in 05/2024), but longer than 10-year runs are possible for start and end dates before this 10-year window. I…
  • @Observant, new limitation is for 10 years. But you have to change both the start and end dates to capture the older 10-yr periods. Some periods > 10 years do slip by randomly, but I haven't figured out any pattern. For example, these old 20-yea…
  • One PV LOOPHOLE is that the 10-year periods don't have to be recent, so free PV runs can be made for successive 10-year periods. Following are the PV runs for Bengen-type 4% withdrawals with annual COLA for 3 10-yr periods covering 30 years. Of cour…
  • An online bank with "impact" goals that started only in 2022 offering 100-yr CD, 4.75% fixed, as a publicity stunt - 10-yr interest penalty for early withdrawals. Alternatives? 30-yr Treasury bond or zero. "We had not yet opened for deposits in 2022…
  • PV Guide/Pointers updated, https://ybbpersonalfinance.proboards.com/post/1479/thread
  • Well, the PV data input interface has changed, and the result format has changed, but on a quick look, almost all of the old free features are still there. The results are still linkable. I think that if one spends 30 minutes to 1 hour, one can get …
  • ^TCAF-IV hasn't worked either. ^TCAF-NV works but that is previous day's NAV. I asked this question about TCAF IIV but there was no answer. https://www.mutualfundobserver.com/discuss/discussion/comment/170368/#Comment_170368
  • Whenever I deposited checks at Schwab, the funds were available to trade immediately, but they weren't available for withdrawals (i.e. Hold) until the check cleared. Similar for Fido. So, move the $s right away to a Schwab m-mkt fund.
  • Schwab PCRA is a brokerage window within the retirement plans and may have some plan level limitations.

  • Looking at MLPFX Prospectus, it's organized as a taxable C-corp (not as a typical passthrough fund), so the ER includes potential deferred income tax liability from unrealized gains/losses. Is that a real expense? May be someone else can throw a lig…
  • Invesco website says 5.44% comes from underlying funds - holdings look a mix of funds and individual MLPs. Why would there be funds within anything called "Select". https://www.invesco.com/us/financial-products/mutual-funds/product-detail?audienceTy…
  • FWIW, Amazon does mix up David Elias (Dow 40,000 guy) with another Canadian author with similar name.
  • DJIA futures this evening are at 40,000+.
  • P&C insurer Chubb/CB has been mentioned several times in this thread. Now it's revealed that CB was the secret stock Warren Buffett/BRK has been accumulating for 3 quarters - with SEC's blessing. This $6.7 billion stake isn't even a baby elephan…
  • If it wasn't for the Dot. com bubble burst, the GFC, and the pandemic, it would have been sooner!
  • I have had VG funds longer than 2017. I don't remember the voting solicitation then, but there must have been. But it explains why these votes are rare for VG - its BOD don't have definite terms, and voting is required only when there will be 1/3 o…
  • Vanguard is private, so it doesn't follow the selection process used for typical public co BOD. FWIW, I have never received notifications for voting for VG BOD (some like TIAA hold only advisory votes). BOD is authorized to act on behalf of sharehol…
  • Big news! He is an outsider. At iShares/BlackRock, he handled many ETF launches, including the recent spot-Bitcoin ETF IBIT - the biggest among the new such ETFs.
  • @yugo is correct. If you use your credit card line in full, there is a penalty on the credit score. You should keep the usage % low, around 20-30% of the credit limit (per card). And 0% card offers may have initial 3-5% fee and duration of 12-18 mon…
  • If you hold CDs within a brokerage a/c, the FDIC coverage limits will still apply in case of bank failure. SIPC will treat them as securities under its coverage. The SIPC coverage kicks in only when brokerage itself fails. Moreover, the brokerage c…
  • I think that brokers can lend securities from margin a/c only when there is a margin loan balance. One can also ask to move some securities from the margin side to cash side. Try those before downgrading the margin a/c.
  • My Visa card bank also says that it doesn't require travel notifications anymore because of its intelligent systems, but when my wife recently traveled overseas with it, I informed them anyway via their secure system. When travel requirement was in…
  • VWINX has gone through manager changes that were planned & telegraphed.
  • There are gold and oil funds. Then there are diversified commodity funds. STATIC/FIXED Allocations: DBC [K-1], GSG [K-1; 70% energy], etc. DYNAMIC Allocation: PDBC [1099], COMT [1099], USCI [K-1], etc.
  • I don't have access to PRWCX, so I am using the combo TCAF + PYLD. That mix can be adjusted for PRCFX too, so I am not buying it. But it's a good alternative to VWIAX.
  • FMSDX is a multi-asset fund that holds stocks, bonds and some alternatives. It is riskier than VWIAX. Although classified as conservative-allocation (CA), it is somewhere between CA and MA, taking into account its lower grade bonds. VWINX / VWIAX i…
  • @fred495, because your CDs will be in different ownership categories (taxable Brokerage TOD & Brokerage IRA), they would each be covered for $250K even when at the same bank. You may also try using the FDIC calculator that @msf linked (it requi…

  • You can have brokered CD from a bank, and then at bank itself, you can have personal a/c, joint a/c, IRA a/c, multiple POD/TOD CDs. Under the current system, all that can add up to a lot at the same bank. But the new FDIC limit will be $1.25 million…
  • The FDIC coverage is for all personal assets held at a bank with the new max $1.25 million considering various tricks. The FDIC coverage kicks in when the bank fails. For cash and securities held at brokerage, the SIPC insurance limits would apply. …
  • @Crash wrote about his saga in detail about his recent transfer from Bruce to Schwab. So, this change was new & preplanned. It also involved asset allocation shift from MA to CA.
  • During the Covid lockdown, my wife received a letter from an IL Dept saying that an unemployment claim had been filed for her. Considering that she had been "retired" for several years, we found this strange. I called the number provided in the lett…

  • @MikeM, T+1 will reduce the payment time by 1 day at all brokers - whether m-mkt fund is core (Fido, Vanguard) or not (Schwab). So, on the 0-day (trade day), buy a stock/ETF/CEF anytime during the day. Also enter m-mkt order at Schwab to fund the p…
