Very interesting. Lately, Bearish sentiment seems to run to 2 SD high on a whim at least once every month. At what point does a 2 SD Bearish sentiment lose its signal value?
"What I’m trying to get at with the question is if there were no cap on the I-Bond amount, to what extent would people sell equities and other riskier investments in order to lock in that attractive I-Bond rate?"
It would be useful to edit / add th…
while we do not put as much emphasis on the Bullish reading, I do not remember seeing a bullish reading this low in 10+ year but again we are talking about my memory!
Is it possible that PPI is higher than CPI because of supply constraints because …
Not an Aficionado, but Yes, all of my bond allocation, which is currently in cash. But if I had already bought Treasury Notes with that cash, I would sell to go into iBonds.
I have not seen the WSJ article you mentioned but I do not need to.
Respectfully I disagree. Hindsight is always 20:20 of course but here are some stats on VWINX and a few others over the last 3 year period. I have not looked at the 5 and 10Y stats but pretty sure that other funds have done better than VWINX in term…
MAFIX was recently discussed in the "What are you buying . . ." thread. I figured this post belongs more here. Q1 information is now available at the fund site -

Also, I have noticed some members ha…
@BaluBAlu, buying T-Bills now at brokerages or Treasury Direct is better than m-mkt funds. https://home.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/interest-rates/TextView?type=daily_treasury_yield_curve&field_tdr_date_value_month=202204

With a lot of discussion about folks building up cash %age, note that fund flows into equities have not slowed this year, while flows into bond funds are negative (redemptions, no surprise there!) and to my amazement, flows into money market funds a…
@hank, as mentioned in my first post, I was enquiring about investment grade that is what I will be unloading. Not a big position, which I bought in 2013-14 and today when rates fell throughout the curve, Muni is the only sector that lost ground - …
I got my answer based on today’s market action. I put in an order to sell 50% of the small Muni assets I have. The other 50% will go on Friday if I do not get any contradictory signal from the market tomorrow.
A bit of an off topic -
In the current financial environment, which of investment grade Muni or investment grade Corporate are considered less credit sensitive (i.e., ballast)? (Assume their Duration and thus their interest rate risk is the same.)
Excellent info at your thread @yogibearbull.
If one's anticipation of terminal inflation rate during one's anticipated holding period of a new iBond is materially lower than 7.12%, I think it may be better to buy them this month. The Fed members …
For many months now, when one types a non-Vanguard OEF ticker in the Vanguard brokerage search box, right below the search box a "No results found" is displayed. Do not give up, just hit Enter and the info about the sought OEF will be displayed.
@stayCalm, thanks for your reply. You mentioned those two alt / multi-asset funds constitute 15% of your equity allocation - what %age of you PV is equity?
@JD_co, Does Etrade offer GQHPX / GQHIX? Also, does Etrade charge transaction fee of $20 f…
@stayCalm, thanks for sharing. I was curious why you have both BLNDX and MAFIX? I noticed that MAFIX has five sub-advisers and as such is fairly diversified in of itself. May be it is the layout of BLNDX website but its info disclosure does not a…
One has to read the prospectus to see if BWBFX is double dipping. After reviewing the prospectus, if it is determined that it is double dipping, I would consider that a put off. I have not checked. Fund of funds issued by some of the well known m…
Yes, you got the correct. Remember that Giroux uses this fund for his bond allocation (the largest position). PRWCX is doing well without holding other investment grade bonds.
Which fund does Giroux use for his bond allocation?
@BaluBalu
Fido hiring, a growth sign, eh? The times I've called over many years, if the CSR couldn't readily help; the proper person was sought. No problem with that. 'Course, the caller must have a properly framed question in the first place, to ex…
With Fido customer service, they have hired thousands of new Reps, many of them are green. One has to sense within the first 15 seconds if the Rep answering the phone is competent and drop the call and dial back in the hope one would get a seasoned…
For OEFs & ETFs combined, changes vs 12/31 are not big. I think equity markets were down quite a bit but investors seem to be reallocating / rebalancing contemporaneously. Buy the dip is alive and well?!
If US Treasury Notes offer the same YTM as CDs, is one preferable over the other, except for the state tax exemption of the Treasury Notes? E.g., Liquidity, bid-ask spreads, transaction fees, etc. to buy and sell for orders of $0.5+M.
I have not kept up with changes at Fido in 2022 but RCTIX did not used to participate and was not available in their auto reinvest program. So, when I sold, I did not retain any shares.
I am surprised 2+yrs after COVID arrived PRC has not changed its approach to Covid. Hopefully, the PRC lovers in Taiwan wake and smell the coffee. Vietnam has one of the highest vaccine rates and they just went for the best available vaccines. So…
The $0.5B loss is not as concerning as exceeding the regulatory limits on structured products by 300%. I hope it gets investigated and heads roll appropriately. We occasionally mention that ETNs are not the same as ETFs. There you go.
I should have disclosed that my MUNI fund balance (all bought in 2013) is only 1% of my current PV and anything not in equities is in cash. I am not planning to buy any bond funds with that cash, which likely will just go to money market funds when…
This thread made me open my brokerage account to check how the MUNI funds I bought during the original taper tantrum (2013) are holding up. I am surprised to find that the NAV is +/- 2%. I expected the NAVs to be higher. The QQQ price I bought at…
