  • My experimental money has room (fewer experiments running at the moment). I am usually a good test for lady luck. July issue of Monthly Commentary has two good articles on International investing / funds: one each by Devesh and David. Check it o…
  • @staycalm, Thanks. I have been tracking my portfolio since 2107 and I do not think M* portfolio tool has changed / improved much since then. One last question. Do they have quotes and charts for OEFs, CEFs, and ETFs for free?
  • Ackman's self serving politics are a turn off for many people who control institutional money and it is difficult to raise $25B in the public markets without institutional participation. Lack of redemption opportunity does not help institutions, gi…
  • Thank you, @StayCalm. I started with M* portfolio tracking and I manually update my changes. Does Empower allow manual tracking? I am a bit hesitant to give one service provider access to all my financial accounts for them to pull info into one …
  • @Staycalm, I have not heard about Empower before you mentioned. Checked it out on Wikipedia. Can you do a quick promo of Empower for us ( e.g., why and how you use it)? Thanks.
  • Thanks, @Graust. The swing voter and decider of election outcomes in both of the last two elections and perhaps the next one too is not the demographic of this forum. So, any manner of activism posts in this forum has the same value as taking a du…
  • Wow. Dip buying is alive and well in this forum.
  • @staycalm, Thanks. Your allocation info is what I was looking for to see how large an Alt allocation you have. I thought it might be easy for you to just copy and paste from your portfolio tracker and so I made a broader request. The purpose o…
  • Here's my portfolio, all commentary welcome! Some of the positions are due to 401k limitations. QLEIX, CEDIX, QMNIX, NICHX, CELFX, CCLFX, QRPIX, IMPCX, GENIX, MRFOX, XPEBX, CPIEX, DODGX, DFALX, CPEFX, FPADX, TRAIX, CORFX, CBARX, FTIHX, JAAA, BIVIX,…

  • Chat guys do not necessarily know everything. When in chat, always ask for a supervisor if you are uncertain of the answers. They always connected the supervisors without a question. Chat supervisors are a lot more knowledgeable and are really in…
  • How did you come to know about "Client Advocacy Team"?
  • Bumping the thread. Why is everything Nuclear I follow getting hammered today? Renewable energy stocks are doing well today. No middle ground for this market? Good to see Bitcoin diverge from equities and from tech equities in particular.
  • In service business you can have two of the three: Quality, Cheap, & Fast but not all three. At least that is what I used to tell my clients. If you are dealing with a brokerage, you are more likely dealing with a situation where time is of th…
  • BF, I am reading your objective with VELIX is to beat SPY over a 5 yr period, starting now, which is a narrow, targeted focus than the broader theme you explained 2 days ago which prompted my suggestion to look at the broader fixed income space. …

  • Active fund with an objective of long term capital appreciation. Good timing!
  • Fixed income, even in junk land, is holding up pretty well today. Even though spreads are suffocatingly tight, look forward to VELIX performance against fixed income during the current equity reset.

  • I would check if there is a correlation for single vs multiple managers in the long term success of focused funds.
  • @hank, Thanks for the additional insight into your thinking, including consumer staple substitution for long bonds. I like your skeptical take on what you read from fund manager and Barron. I agree that if someone is at it for 7.5 yrs and still ha…
  • "I’d never want to defend a buy or sell." @hank, You never need to defend what you do with your money. If I ask questions, it is because either I am trying to learn or spur thoughts for (help) the person I am asking questions of. No other motive.…
  • @BenWP, Please check if XMMO is a passive fund that follows an index and how much discretion the managers have to deviate from the index. Please feel free to post your research and related links (e.g., link to fund site). I would make it easy fo…
  • Thanks, @hank. Very generous of you. Is P/E 22 the new P/E 12! Seems like everything worth owning these days is P/E 20+. If it is a turnaround story, P/E is likely to be high and I can overlook P/E. Mark Schneider has been there for 7 years. I…
  • NSRGY = Nestle Curious why Nestle?
  • Not all boomer candy provide downside protection. VELIX May provide downside protection through its shorts and options but as an active fund that does not have mandatory hedging like JHEQX, VELIX hedging results can only be viewed in hindsight but …

  • Are there any :L/S funds with a strict mandate to have X% of shorts? I have not delved into this space enough but what would be the reason to have a minimum short requirement, unless it is a fund?

  • Is not QLEIX a pure long short fund, unlike BLNDX?
  • Thanks, Dennis, and appreciate the update. "The fund . . . doesn't have the tech high flyers in it ..of course I don't think you can also say the stocks it holds are low valuation either." On point! I already assumed they are more likely to sel…

  • +1. Interestingly, I too put it in my portfolio tracking under Allocation. I do think YBB's caution to watch after buying this (unlike with PRWCX and FBALX) is good. The fund is expected to do well in a trending market and vice a versa.
  • Hi, Balu. The shortest answer is that the SEC imposes a "quiet period" while a filing is in registration, and compliance lawyers are incredibly twitchy about putting any words to paper during that time. No worries. See @Junkster post. IMO, the in…

  • @David_Snowball, Instead of each of us writing to John, can Crossinbridge not post here the same answer to the two questions @Junkster and I asked - when and where?
  • @Graust, For me, Oil Services is what u said not midstream (e.g., pipelines)
  • What happened to HealthCare sector today? Already rotating back or are correlations getting high?
  • @hank, thanks. FAIL is not my cup of tea.
  • One more thought, I expect the stock market to become more volatile, reacting to every pronouncement. May be I will just hold fewer investments and get less involved with my investments. The Ferdinand Rotation. I keep selling single stocks as I …

  • OK, I'm waiting to buy, just need a couple of months to see the risk/reward and volatility. When is it opening and where is it going to be available- if you happen to know.
