@Tarwheel, you are correct, M* puts PTTFX in the Intermediate Core-Plus category but I would call it MS(Multi Sector) light.
The best risk/reward category over the last several years is securitized.
M* says that PTTFX has over 50% in it and it's…
DODIX is a top fund in the Intermediate Core-Plus category. I like to show how a good Multisector fund can have better performance, SD=voltility and why Sharpe+Sortino are higher.
See 3 year performance at PortVis(link)
See the chart (here)
Let's look at RPSIX PRSNX PTIAX and compare them to several other Multi sector funds in my list such as VCFAX,JMUTX,PUCZX,IOFIX
Looking at PV (link)
You can see below that VCFAX,JMUTX,PUCZX,IOFIX are better RPSIX PRSNX PTIAX The last 2 columns ar…
“I can make 20-30+%“
Funny thing about quoting percentages is that seem higher than they appear to be.
Say if a bond fund returns 3%, a 30% increase amounts to less than 1% increase in return.
Is the effort worth it for a tiny 1% increase in return…
From the article "One of the most attractive sources of income right now is tax-free municipal bonds."
The author also forgot to mention funds such as SEMMX,PIMIX,IOFIX,PUCZX that pay over 4.5%.
My intention is to put forward several of my best ideas and compare them to funds that others own. So, if you have any fund in mind we can discuss it.
I'm also looking to make more than the average with bond funds but still, have reasonable low vo…
For cash, I would look at SEMMX or DHEAX/DHEIX. SEMMX has lower rating bonds and better performance than DHEAX (Investment grade > 80%). I call these funds "cash sub" for investors who are willing to take a calculated risk.
See PorVis(link)
I…
M* is more correct. Look at their (site).
Investment-grade, U.S. dollar-based, absolute return-oriented strategy

BEKA is trailing the SP500(VFIAX) for 1-3-5-10 years. See (chart)
SP500 has higher performance but also better SD, Sharpe and Sortino. See PortVis (link).
stillers: And I never understood your "All bonds all the time/bond OEF momentum" investment strategy when markets have gone up FOR 10 YEARS.
It should be noted that you posted on M* that you sold all of your stocks near/at EOY 2019, you have not re…
DHEAX beats DBLSX for 1 month and all the way to 3 years (chart).
DHEAX has also better Sharpe + Sortino (PortVis)
Both funds invest at high % in securitized/MBS, both have mostly IG(investment grade) bond rating.
Just my opinion: DHEAX is a better…
I never understood the cash thing when markets are going up?
For your cash portion....why not use a simple liquid index like SPY/QQQ with a close % for sell trailing stop.
In the last 3 months, the SPY made over 9% and QQQ over 15% and their price …
Article: "The country’s equity mutual funds returned 47% on average in 2019"
The 2 ETF with the biggest AUM mad the following in 2019...MCHI 23.7%...FXI 14.9% but SPY made 31.2%
Another recyclable article among hundreds/thousands. Remember, media options are huge and why you find scary titles without proofs. The goal is for you to go to their site and by visiting the site the author/company gets paid.
When stocks go down 5…
Why stop there the following were wrong too 1. Gundlach forecasted 6% for 10 year treasury by next year 2. Bogle was wrong about SPY performances 3. Arnott missed so many forecasts 4. GMO was way wrong. 5. PE + PE 10 + inverted yield are off for mon…
I was showing you how the railroad social security is paying much more because it's managed much better. Our politicians could do better if they seat together to solve problems. Just think about how an insurance company does it.
It's all about how you present the info...Gallup found 55% of Americans reporting they own stock in April 2019.
Of course, the top 10% own a lot more but the top 10% pays over 40% of the Fed taxes too.
SS problem can be solved if the money will be i…
Why go to Morningstar when you can find the best lists here at MFO.
See https://www.member.mfopremium.com/greatowls/
or MFO Screener (here)
I like to look at high performers + lower SD. That is a great start, with that in mind, sharpe+sortino wil…
I have been reading for years that
1) Interest rates can only go up
2) That EM stocks are a better value and soon will do better
3) That diversification is better while the SP500 performance + volatility was better
and one it's going to be true :-)
I agree with this article. Rates now are at one of the lowest levels ever seen. You can still make 4-5% in bonds using Multisector+Non Trad funds which I posted about at Bond mutual funds analysis
Several funds to consider are
SD lower than1=SEMM…
High rated bond funds did great since 2019 because rates decrease dramatically and this category has a higher correlation to rates change. If rates will stabilize or will not go down a lot these funds will not make anything close to 5%. Predicting …
@MSF "Taxation of muni bonds is not so straightforward."
It looks to me it was straightforward.
Your Muni dist may affect your Medicare premiums but for most it's not relevant. Example: when married filed jointly income is over $174K they will p…
@MSF
All my HY munis funds' monthly distributions for 2018 (and all priors years) were Fed exempt. I never buy single bond and probably will never do it in the future.

Every week I can find articles about doom and gloom, eventually, the market will go down at one point. Hussman (link) made a career of scaring investors for many years. he looked great in 2008 but in the last 10 years his funds' performance is ter…
@catch, you think the article is good. I think it's average. I have read so many generic articles with generic ideas. I like to discuss specifics and help people with uniques problems because most have unique situations. I made comments about eac…
None of the rules will make you wealthy. The best way for an average person it to start saving earlier and keep saving monthly thru 401K(or similar) for years. The more you save the better you will be. Basically, if you start early to meet your e…
As a generic rule, I would invest in MBS before I would invest in HY. MBS/Securitized is where great managers have great risk/reward + you get higher distributions which is what many retirees want/need. The following funds have a high % in Securiti…
Why would I buy SHV when MM pays the same?
Because the Fed is expanding its balance sheet stocks and bonds are doing great..
In the last 3 months (link) SHV made 0.4% but PIMIX made 2.7% and NHMAX(HY Muni) made 3% and SPY made over 10%
I put more emphasis on the last 3 years. When I compare RPHIX,ZEOIX,SEMMX,DHEIX(link)
RPHIX has inferior numbers to the other 3.
DHEIX is the only one with 80+% in investment-grade rating. I can't buy DHEIX at Schwab but I can buy DHEAX with no f…
See numbers from PortVis(link) of PIMIX,JGIAX,JMUTX,PUCZX
1) PIMIX + JMUTX have similar volatility=SD but JMUTX performance is better and why JMUTX Sharpe+Sortino is better.
2) JGIAX + JMUTX have similar performance but JMUTX volatility is better an…

Comparing VFINX to DODFX was an error, it should be VFINX vs DODGX. The link and numbers are based on DODGX. SP500 beat DODGX.
I also agree that low fees are important and if I have to select funds for the next 20 years I would only select index f…
SD=volatility is just the first thing I look for. I pay a lot of attention to Sharpe, Sortino, Max Draw and more.
Let's look again at D&B compared to "my" funds.
I already proved that A 5 years analysis(link) shows that DODFX has over 40% more…
DODFX vs HFQTX depends on whether you're investing in a tax-sheltered account (where you're losing the benefit of the foreign tax credit) or in a taxable account.
In a taxable account, one pays a cost for the Janus fund's frenetic trading (142% tur…
