Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
One of the linked articles said that —although it may seem counterintuitive — the longer coffee is roasted the lower the acrylamide. It's compli-ma-cated!
@Ben My impression is that acrylamide naturally occurs in foods as a chemical reaction to how…
Hmm... that FDA list is almost entirely of processed foods. It tells us nothing definite/measurable about the main ingredients when prepared in a home environment. For instance what is the typical range of acrylamide in french fries that were made…
Hi David, after months of frustration with Morningstar I installed Firefox which I use for Morningstar and 3 other websites. It is very easy to install and use and the problems are greatly reduced. When I *do* have Morningstar Portfolio problems I…
I'm keeping my shares for now. The 4 cents one day loss represents .015 of the share price. That's not enough to bother me even on a day that the index goes up. MSCFX after all is not invested in the index. When the index goes down perhaps this fund …
Thanks. I am interested in investing there but I don't want to duplicate (increase) investments in stocks that are already in other mutual funds in which I am a shareholder. I guess I'll just wait a while until they make the holdings public. What i…
Maurice, have you been able to discover the holdings in VGWAX? The Vanguard website shows the 10 largest, which is 14.5% of total. But if one digs for more details Vanguard tells you that this fund has no holdings of bonds or of stocks! Or of cash …
@LLJB: thank you for the detailed reply. My take on Grandeur Peak is that in the area of communication they are slightly disorganized or inefficient. Same for Rondure. I am also a shareholder in both Rondure funds. I have pointed out errors in Rondu…
Am I the only reader who could not find much plain English in this interview? Moreover there are only 2 sentences about vulnerable asset classes. One of them mentions cross-over money that has "flowed in" (to nowhere in particular?) and the other me…
Ted, (et al) have you read Chip's writeup on ZEOIX? Really my question is about that, not directly about the fund. Thanks everyone for chiming in. It's all lively, all pertinent, although not really what I asked about. What I asked is : what in …
Well, Zero and Zeo are similar sounds. If R stands for Return then Zeo, lacking an R sure enough is not impressive in the R department. But ZEOIX is not for accumulating wealth.
BTW, why go with a brokerage when you can go directly to the fund tr…
It is a better mattress and is intended for that purpose. It's a holding tank with low chance of losing principal and just a bit of gain. I suggest looking at the ZEO website and Chip's writeup before dismissing it.
But then I saw lots of Apple machines ready to be unboxed. If they were a growth shop, I could understand buying the sizzle. But they were supposed to be focusing on intrinsic value. Such a disappointment :-)
Maybe these were the previous yea…
I was looking at the MultiSearch results for ZEOIX. After consulting their website (ZEO now has a real website) ZEOIX looks like a superior mattress to me. (that's a compliment). What puzzled me on the MultiSearch tool was the characterization of…
@Ted I'm amazed no one actively disagreed with me.
I don't necessarily disagree but how does one buy shares of a closed fund? Maybe you are already a GPMCX shareholder ?
I think I've got it fixed. Let me know what you see.
Thank you for reporting the problem!
Left click: a box full of links and the name of the fund. It's back to how it was before the problem. Problem fixed. Thank you!
If I hover the cursor over the symbol I still get the full fund name. If I left click I get the empty box with the x. Right click? dunno. I never used it. This is with mac and Safari.
This is important stuff. It affects us all. But is this web forum really the place for this? OK, there are health care stocks in Mutual Funds. I think it's a bit of stretch. Just my opinion. But please keep it civil. So far, so good.
I do most of my investing transactions via the US Post Office. The rest (maybe 30%) I do via my Mac or via the telephone. I feel as you do, Maurice, that a cell phone is more vulnerable than other devices. But also I just am not comfortable with th…
BobC, I'm one of those still holding accounts at Wells. It's like this: my neighborhood branch is a short walk from my home. The people who work there have never tried to fleece me. Once, only once, a new employee guided my wife and I to a type of …
Not only did she respond, she followed through as she said she would. Later that day "the land of bangles" vanished from the website. Yes, this has nothing to do with investment skill. This has to do with good character.
I also noted that the New World Fund has a small position in a health care company in Bangladesh and another in a telecom company in an imaginary country called "Bangledesh". Typos happen, sure. But listing these as 2 different countries gives me p…
According to my rough calculations 11.65 % of the Rondure Overseas Fund's holdings are also in the Rondure New World Fund, but these stocks do not make up equal portions of the two funds. (One will have a smaller position in a commonly held stock th…
What underlies *my* question to Vanguard is whether it makes sense to own one/both in addition to the existing funds or instead of one/or both. Wellington Fund is presently closed. Knowing the percentage of portfolio overlap would tell me if an inve…
I telephoned Vanguard to find out how much portfolio overlap/duplication there is likely to be between the new funds and the already existing "non-Global" Wellington and Wellesley Income funds. The first voice did not know. He found me an expert. He…
