  • I'm not a bonds person other than using t-bills for cash, but I think I'd rather keep rolling (or auto-rolling) shorter-term t-bills at this point. I suspect rates may not go much higher, at which point won't the 'floating' part of the rate in FRNs…
  • Added 1000s FLNG to my existing position in this LNG shipper following the sharp selloff on earnings. (Half the total position is hedged via options thru 2/24).
  • @rforno... interesting... what kind of rate did you get? dunno yet - auction is on thursday
  • Put 15K into this week's 4-wk T-bill auction, auto-rollover, at Schwab. (part of emergency funds)
  • Why stop at 12? The way this is going, I would drink 25 YO minimum, as we are not likely to survive much longer! Hah ... I have a 40 y/o bottle that's my Apocalypse Dram!
  • When the trials start, they will likely go wall-to-wall coverage w/o commercials, so I'm not sure there's any profit-incentive here for the networks/stations or individual investors. If anything, buy yourself a nice 12 year old scotch to savor, you…
  • Meh, still looking, but nothing's hit my buy prices yet. Besides, less than 1% down isn't enough to get me excited anyway .... but it does sharpen the senses a bit, especially if it continues into the week.
  • I can't believe it, you can lose maybe 3-5 days of MM? How much is it? 0.1%. I used ACAT back and forth Schwab-Fidelity and usually it takes 2--3 days. You can wire the money too. I only wired money from Schwab and it took a couple of hours, and it …
  • I wanted to explore the possibility of moving my TD accounts to Schwab via ACAT transfer rather than via merger migration. Multiple contacts from Schwab confirmed that no Schwab money market funds can be transferred to Schwab via ACAT transfer. I …
  • Investor, I, Advisor, R, and Z-classes for that new TRP fund? I remember when they 'only' offered Investor and Advisor shares .... sheesh. Loved loved the Scotland narrative, many thanks. You and Chip looked so happy!! (And now I want chocolat…
  • "he may well have started someone clever on the path to creating the latest-crazy-idea" If somebody can figure out how to make money on this I demand my cut. :) The Old Joe 2x Strategic Tang-Swilling Enhanced Short Berkowitz Fund?
  • I was at my CU today to open up a MM account to locally store some $$$ at my bank outside of my checking account -- mostly to reduce the chances of potential significant direct-debit/ACH losses should any of my vendors get compromised. Amazing that…
  • Threw a very large chunk of cash from recent stock sales into another 2-week bill today.
  • "what should an investor do when OJ steps away from managing The OJ Fund?" Firstly, anyone who had placed money in The OJ Fund is not an investor, but a dope. Lastly, when OJ steps away from managing The OJ Fund it may signal potential investors …
  • My preference is to use a local institution for checking and direct deposit. I'm a member of a locally-based credit union with many nearby branches. If any issues arise, I can readily speak to someone in person. Over the years, I've found that CUs …
  • Yesterday I sold my boatload of TDS preferreds for a tad over breakeven following Friday's $2/sh jump on the news that US Cellular is exploring strategic alternatives. Giving up a fair amount of between-here-and-par profit if/when they get called, b…
  • Try CRV and then Accord will feel like a sports car. Now we have CRV and RDX. We have been a Honda/Acura family for many years. +1 on Acura. After a decade of German engineering, I just bought my second MDX last month, actually ... luxury Honda engi…
  • Oh geez. Hope Chip gets better soon! (first things first....)
  • This downgrade might be a good thing if it convinces certain congressmen from threatening to shut down the federal government every time they don’t get their way Doubtful. You can't reason with a cult, remember.
  • I am probably the worse investor at MFO. My ignorance/incompetence is, or should be, notorious. Yet I am among the "perfect". My before RMD is more than sufficient so RMD (before tax) amount gets reinvested. I have no debt. So far, at age 74, I am i…
  • Never heard of it ... or the firm....
  • Loving both Firefox & Brave which are knocking down attempts by Google & Facebook to track me. Dumb question … But how do these ”good guys” make money? I’ll assume there must be a business model - or are they supported fully by donation? F…
  • Late to the discussion, but as a cybersecurity person, my browsers are as such: - Google Chrome (logged in to work) only for university purposes and nothing else. - Brave for research purposes on 'dirty' sites (eg, cryptocurrency, malware, untruste…
  • Still letting this quote sink in.... "CHILDS: Pharma companies spent $6 billion on TV drug ads in 2016, but they spent $20 billion advertising directly to doctors, pushing drugs that we don't see on TV, like the addictive ones." .... which is why…

  • Well, that's one of those "Yeah buts" I was talking about :) Annualized return for St. Joe over the past decade is 11.53% I'll just plead ignorance - I really haven't thought of that stock since the mid-00s!
  • Notable, sure ---- but how long did he have to hold the position to see that gain? IIRC that's been a dog stock for well over a decade and I suspect he's been underwater for most of it as their largest shareholder.
  • Meanwhile hussy (hussman). Continues to make very rational sense and notates overvaluation and very risky markets but continues to suffer drawdowns....some day, some day....he might actually make his shareholders money.... “It ain’t what you don’t …
  • In my opinion, no one should ever pay 5%, and most should not pay even 1% annually when Vanguard's annual fee is 0.35% for its all-index investment options and 0.40% for an active/index mix. A good adviser can and should have a clear plan that last…
  • Today I cancelled a subscription to a newsletter that’s been so upside down the past year it ain’t funny. Told folks to sell / reduce exposure to stocks just before the late ‘22 & early ‘23 rally. Than changed that to a buy recommendation ju…
  • Not to start dumping on AFs but I do find their nearly 2-dozen OEF share classes hysterical. They've spliced their offerings so finely to ensure that various target clients 'get' the 'right' sort of 'discount' even if it's just a single bp differen…
  • Although the ETFs strategies are similar to existing American mutual funds, the execution is different as the ETFs hold fewer stocks and have fewer managers. I believe not as many teams are working on the ETFs. That could be a good thing or bad thin…
  • +1 for Capital Group, which holds a very large chunk of my money.
  • Anyone else care to go to confession ?! Have a nice Sunday, Derf Say 3 "Buy, Buy, Buys!" and 2 "Hold Hold Holds!" followed by a recitation of the "Whipsaw Song" and be absolved of your confessed investing sins. …

  • .25 sounds like a lot. And it is with really large amounts that are left untouched out to 5 or 10 years. For lesser amounts: $20,000 invested 1 year would earn roughly an additional … $50 $50,000 .………..1 year ……………………………………….. $125 $7…

  • A quick look at GRID (First Trust Clean Edge®Smart Grid Infrastructure ETF) shows 17% utilities as well as many industrial and tech companies that stand to benefit from what Giroux is talking about, namely the conversion to green energy. GRID does n…

  • On a recent Wealth Track, David Giroux said "I think people are going to make a ton opf money in Utilities", and he recommended moving money from Consumer Staples into utilities. If I remember correctly he highlighted Next Era Energy as one of sever…

  • Giroux is becoming TRP’s “super-star”. TRP has ramped up their advertising on Bloomberg of late. And they’ve gotten a bit more aggressive in pushing fund performance. AFAIK, Giroux (or his likeness) hasn’t appeared in any of the ads - YET. (Give …
  • I never was good at hedging. Sure, I'd put an option hedge of some sort on and be proven right, but since the position likely expired before the event, it meant that I was early, and thus 'wrong.' :) Ergo, since I'm usually a lousy market timer, …
