Lynn,
Thank you so much. I am planning on a 3-year ladder since I am a year away from retirement. Lots of spreadsheet work to calculate the income replacement needed. This ladder will create a steady income stream. So thank you for all your help.
I moved back to high quality bond funds this year. Some of which you covered in the SA article. For now, I will stay with agency bonds to the bond ladder. I will pick active managers for corporate bonds.

Cohen seems to be connected to the darker side in some way
That is why he is known as The Fixer. How are they differ from John Gotti and their companies?
Wanna pay your BMO Visa card bill IN PERSON? There's a FEE. Ouch. That actually started some years ago,
You gonna be kidding! Some banks in US are charging fees when dealing with tellers. Indirectly they want you to use the ATM, or better doing ev…
@Derf, There is still time to add and dollar average into your target allocation. Given the uncertainty from the G20 summit with respect to US and China tariffs, I think there is more ups and downs in the next few months.
I have been invested with VMVFX since inception. Top 10 holdings are invested elsewhere and not the FAANG stocks. This fund has done very well (YTD +1.9%) while the developed and emerging markets funds are in double digit loss! The fund has a hea…
That is if one does not bail near the bottom (to lock in the loss) or to have a large cash position (like Warren Buffett) and he goes shopping when everyone else bailed.
The G20 summit left out lots of details on the tariff agreement between US …
Man ... Sentiment on this board seems to have turned on a dime.
That is for sure. On the other hand, I think there are more downside to come as the G20 summit promises start to unfold in a bad way.
After the G20 meeting, US and China have a 90 days agreement to hold back some of the tariff. Very little details pertaining to technology and intellectual property were discussed. So I don't think we are out of the wood yet.
If I would add in …

No, I think it'll be the rogue traders embedded in that caravan that he blames for the market 'crashing' today.
It is much worst: Trump declares without evidence that 'Criminals and unknown Middle Easterners are mixed in' with migrant caravan making…

This week is a repeat of the decline in late January this year, exception that the situation is worse with higher interest rates, tariffs, and geopolitical risks. CDs, 2-years Treasury and (even) money market are more attractive options.
The turning point of value stocks over growth stocks arrived this week.
Vanguard Growth Index fund: -2.7%
Vanguard Value Index fund: +0.2%
Vanguard 500 Index fund: -1.0%
All my funds are down today. Increased bond yield finally arrived after Fed hike in September.

For sure it is painful to watch it was disorganized and with minimal support to the key points he raised. He can barely answer the questions with details. In the end I turned away to elsewhere and watch for other interpretations later.
And yes, TAX CUTS are to be considered 'spending' in this discussion, contrary to what Kudlow, Ryan, or others want us to believe.
Totally, Ryan has been eying to reduce the entitlement programs for a long time. Larry Kudow, a frequent contributor …
