Lynn,
Thank you so much. I am planning on a 3-year ladder since I am a year away from retirement. Lots of spreadsheet work to calculate the income replacement needed. This ladder will create a steady income stream. So thank you for all your help.
I moved back to high quality bond funds this year. Some of which you covered in the SA article. For now, I will stay with agency bonds to the bond ladder. I will pick active managers for corporate bonds.

Thought LITMAN GREGORY has gone to advisory only.
Long time ago I invested with their Master Select International fund and left several years later. The concept of running a fund utilizing multiple "star" money mangers was interesting but there …
Rebalancing several times a year is an tried and true method. I was several months early prior to March, but that was good enough to lessen the maximum drawdown.
You read my playbook. I reduced stocks, especially the growth funds by 8% over the last 8 weeks. It was going up too fast and confined to a handful stocks. Now I will sleep better with a bit of cash.
I agree that things may settle down a bit aft…
Sell off on Thursday as well starting with tech sector. I am not as confident with the weekly reported unemployment number and the continuing layoff of white collar workers.
No significant news other than tech sector rebounded. AstroZenneca vaccine testing paused due to a side effect found in one patient. but According to Dr. Fauci that case is not unusual at this stage of human testing. Data are being reviewed at th…
Thank you for the update. Wonder if he is still involved in the investment industry or at least on a consulting capacity? Lot of people from Silicon Valley moved to Lake Tahoe since long term remote working is possible. Housing is more reasonable …
Don't think he is managing funds anymore. He moved up the FPA management chain. I get the same feeling that he is preserving capital. Given the low yield bond environment it is not uncommon to hedge that with gold. Given the COVID situation many …
Informative interview with Trump illustrated his lies.

It appeared it was a side effect resulted from a large dosage. It is better to catch such events in this late stage of trial testing.
Paul Offit, a pediatrician and vaccine expert at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said the AstraZeneca s…
Tillinghast took some time off several years ago and the Liw Priced fund was ran by a large team. It was a great fund when the asset was under $500M back in the early 90's. I believe there are better candidates out there with small asset and equall…
For sure that is something to watch out for. Reduced growth funds several weeks ago so to lessen FAANG stocks exposure.
Going forward trade war will likely get uglier as China flexes their influence. Unfortunately that is the downside of globali…
It should be noted that 40% of BRKB is invested in Apple while the rest is value stocks. Buffet still has lots of cash to deploy. His recent investment in Japan is refreshing.
Majority of my foreign exposure to equities and bonds are unhedged against USD. My timing was bad in 2007 when my local currency EM Pimco bond tanked badly and took over 3 years to recovered. Think it was my mistake of jumping in all at once inste…
@crash, you asst allocation should do well going forward as the market trending downward. Are you including alternatives and precious metals as they have lower correlations to equities? This month's Commentary have considerable discussion from Dav…
Your wife got lucky. My coworkers traveled on United and they were not please with the full flight. Some low cost operators even reduce the number of flight so to reduce the fixed cost. We love to travel overseas but many countries do not want Am…
This pandemic has impacted our daily lives on many fronts. Certainly lesisure and business travel are cur back considerably. My travel stopped in February and now all business meetings are done via videoconferencing. I am old school that human tou…
Would you please do us a favor and cite articles from quality sources such as The Lancet and PubMed Central. Information from CNBC is not the most reliable.
One more try. My understanding is that those vaccines derived from mRNA require low temperature storage - much lower than typical vaccines. It will require additional consideration on the logistic side in order to meet this requirement. Dry ice (…
In an odd coincidence, the Trump administration will be shutting down the US military newsletter Stars and Stripes effective the end of this month.
Yesterday, he quickly reversed the decision to reinstate and continue publication of Stars and Strip…
DODBX is one of the oldest fund around. It's record is only average, especially during drawdown. It is still down 3% YTD while the balanced index is over 7.7% YTD?
What about Permanent Portfolios, PRPFX, and Janus Henderson Balanced, JABAX?

I used to subscribe to Barron's, then it went downhill similar to that of WSJ. The paper got thinner and the quality of the paper suffered. This was about the time when newspapers starting to go toward online subscription. The quality of journalis…
Yesterday was another good day for small cap value, and value generally.
A rotation and broadening the board of entire market is encouraging. Hopefully this trend continues in the coming weeks.
Personally, equities have been good to me for the past 50 years, with a few scary times in between. So, I’m not about to “jump ship”, although at nearly 74, I’m widely diversified with perhaps 30-40% in equities. Some bonds. Some commodities. Some c…
What recovery is this today? Glad I rebalanced several weeks ago. My conservative index bond funds held up today, VBTLX +0.09%, VTABX +0.04%, VSBSX 0.0% while the balanced funds VWINX -0.6% and PRWCX -1.8%. Don't think this pull back is over yet.
The vaccine 'promise' won't matter because at this point, not enough people are going to take it. feh. Wifey and I got our flu shots day before yesterday, but I won't get a Covid-19 shot at least until fall of 2021 and maybe not then. I no longer tr…
Agree with @davidmoran. The recovery is uneven so far. Airline industry is in trouble with continuing weak demand in August. United and American airlines asked for more $T$ bailout to slow down the layoff as the previous $ ran out.
