Lynn,
Thank you so much. I am planning on a 3-year ladder since I am a year away from retirement. Lots of spreadsheet work to calculate the income replacement needed. This ladder will create a steady income stream. So thank you for all your help.
I moved back to high quality bond funds this year. Some of which you covered in the SA article. For now, I will stay with agency bonds to the bond ladder. I will pick active managers for corporate bonds.

The sad part is that her blood testing method was endorsed by many established individuals including a Stanford biochemistry professor, Walgreens and CVS pharmacies, politicians (Henery Kissinger and Bill Clinton), and hedge fund managers. Guess th…
The link I provided above (Fidelity) showed 68% in equity as of 6/30/21, which is the typical range he runs the fund. Comparing to the composition of the portfolio to a year ago, there is more defensive positions (11% utility) and cash.
That is not encouraging news. Several posters here have had issue with Vanguard's and T. Rowe Price's customer service. Is everyone working from home the root cause for this type of problem?
That is the reason I also use Fidelity which runs very re…
That is my exact thinking going back when Benanke started QE, and the central banks around the globe. Still can't imagine the negative interest rates in Europe and Japan.
Today the Fed (and other central banks across the globe) is part of the market. To support the stock market, quantitive easing, QE was introduced back in 2008. During the COVID-19 pandemic and the country is being locked down. The broader market fe…

This is a challenging environment to make modest gain when bonds are yielding little and US stocks are richly priced. Most of the gain I have came from last year rotation into value and smaller cap stocks. Hopefully earning reporting holds up. One…
I like short term investment grade bonds, short term TIPs and GNMA as cash substitutes, although not perfect. My allocation is modest with 55% equity and tilting toward international. Trimmed back a bit on EM exposure. Last week Powell’s carefully c…
Unlike active managed And passively managed ETFs, open-ended mutual funds are required to report their holdings every 6 months in semi-annual and annual reports. The delay is necessary to avoid front-running the fund manager’s trading that may run u…
Over the years much has changed for us. We switched to use mostly index funds and ETFs, except for smaller caps and overseas. Our 401(k) choices are all index funds and target dated funds. Our expected return is modest. Getting market-like return is…
As of 6/30/21, PRWCX holds high % in utility (11%) and cash (10%). Still he managed to gain 13% YTD and leads the balanced fund category. The fund is well in position when the market corrects when the Fed starts to taper later this year.

He made the announcement back in April as the market was getting fully priced. A year before in March he was buying aggressively when the market fell 30%.

The requirement is for self-employed individuals, not those who work for private companies or in public sectors. In the past, the banks require to see 2 years of tax return so to establish the income.
Found the news from Apple News yesterday. The article mentioned several ways to prevent identity theft. An associate of mine found out someone has filed for his tax return using his stolen social security number and birthday. This took several month…
@Crash,

At present Amazon and Microsoft are bidding for DoD’s multiple $B cloud service. In the old days, each company has their own data storage centralized over several locations. Today it is cheaper to farm out the corporate level data storage to the clo…

Things can get ugly if South China Sea conflict escalates. In the last 3 months the broader EM index which has 40% exposure to China has been declining. Think I will sit out this dance.
Thanks@TheShadow. That is what I find on Artisan institutional site. The other one is for retail investors. Not much info on the site other than few general info. You need to contact directly.
That is NOT a fund for me.
So with all that said, not sure i'm ready to allocate such a big chunk, though I do love Tiffany as an investor.
Not in a hurry from this end either. The situation continues to evolve. Will see how Ms. Hsio's fund perform in the near term.

That is the risk of being concentrated in one region, Asia. Yes, many have said that is where the growth will be. The counter argument is at what cost, especially geopolitical.
Value oriented shops such as Oakmark has turned around this year after many years of lagging behind their growth counterparts. Let's hope the trend continues.
I taken that you don't invest with Matthews Asia funds or have high opinon of their outlook? Though I agree that Matthews Asia funds have not excel with the exiting of several experienced managers.

Failure to recycle and reclaime valuable metals from electronics over the last several decades is truly disappointing. Rare earth metals are not considered as consumables and disposed as garbage. For now many of these metals are mined from China.
Charging stations would be the low hanging fruit. New batteries that meet the driving range (energy density), charging time and overall lifespan (something cheaper and lighter than lithium-ion batteries) requirements have yet to be developed. Also…

The nation needs to get this bill through with aging roads and bridges. Thought the Bush administration tried this before but their own members failed to support it. Hope this time is different.
