Lynn, Thank you so much. I am planning on a 3-year ladder since I am a year away from retirement. Lots of spreadsheet work to calculate the income replacement needed. This ladder will create a steady income stream. So thank you for all your help. I moved back to high quality bond funds this year. Some of which you covered in the SA article. For now, I will stay with agency bonds to the bond ladder. I will pick active managers for corporate bonds. Sven

  • Agree, and this case will drag on well into next year. The Georgia case is more direct with ample evidence and testimonies. The Mar-La-Go case is serious and Judge Smith is subpoena more testimonies. Nevertheless, it will be messy. Another piece…
  • Many writers often over-simply complex subject matter as black and white. Then the absolute terms can mislead their audience. I think the probability of further rate hike is declining since inflation appears to be slowing. This morning the Feb’s PCE…
  • Well said @LB. As an individual investor, cost of asset ownership is something I have absolute control. Thus, index funds and ETFs are preferred. So are those OEFs with lower expense ratio. With regard to TIPS, I would only consider the shortes…
  • That is indeed good news. Next is Sweden where few issues that need to be resolved over the objection from principally Turkey. Apparently Erdoğan has softened his stance on Finland after the devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria in…
  • There are many balls in the air right now which poses uncertainty for the investors. The inverted yield curve indicates we will enter a recession sometime, but the severity is anyone guess. Questions for us is to figure how to best position themselv…
  • Justice is not blind. Surely he will have special arrangement away from the public eyes or press. He was afraid being photographed and showed to the world as he is being booked. Trouble is there are several even more serious cases coming.
  • To counter their euphoria (which waxes and wanes day to day) they did a segment with TRP’s allocation guru Sebastian Page who thinks stocks are overextended and we’re still in a bear market. I tend to agree with Sebastian Page. Others have stated …

  • Thanks for heads up. Bought some T bills several weeks ago before SVB failure. Right now, CDs are paying a bit higher than T bills.
  • @motmot, Welcome to the board. Think many folks here may use their brokerage account to park their RMD fund in high yield money market funds (pay over 4%). In contrast, many credit unions and banks pay much less than 4%. My saving account at a c…
  • Apparently, DeSantis walked back his earlier comment. Nevertheless, flip flopping only shows how little he knows of the world, which is a whole lot bigger than Florida state. DeSantis seen to forget the history of Nazi Germany invading Poland and …
  • This A share fund is listed as “closed to new investors”, at Fidelity and sold with front-load waived. This is more common now especially when savvy investors are buying ETF and other low cost equivalents. When invest through an advisor, the fron…
  • Dollar cost average to buy BND. Think there are better opportunities with bonds this year - real yield at 4% plus bond price appreciation. Rate hike cycle is slowing and likely to plateau at some point this year. At that point, long duration bond…
  • I stand corrected again. It used to be $50, but Fidelity would blame that on HIGH inflation.
  • Don’t know about your finance situation and risk tolerance. So here it goes for your questions on CDs: 1. As of today the only CDs that yield 5% are those with shorter duration ones, 9-12 month. Creating a CD ladder is necessary in order to main…
  • Many of these folks have never visit Europe. Many classical sculptures are in nude and they are considered beautiful. I have the fortune to grow up in large cites and my parents took us to many museums. What a joy to learn!
  • I bought FPACX awhile back at Fidelity and added more thru their automatic investment feature for $5 per purchase. You pick the date and the $ amount, quite convenient. You can sell transaction-fee funds for free at Fidelity. As far as I know, only…
  • The accounting on PRWCX has to be clean. It is not a fund-of-fund as it spells out in the prospectus. VGHCX is an active managed fund runs by Wellington and VHT is passively managed ETF runs by Vanguard Quantitative Group. They may share some st…

  • Tough to say if that is going to be a clone. The equity part of PCWCX may be replicated in this ETF among the larger positions. I tend to say that will not be a clone. The risk profile is a total unknown at this point and we are speculating as if th…
  • I agree that the magic sauce is the non-equity allocation of PRWCX. Giroux manages to move in and out of bank loan bonds, treasury, and cash as he see opportunities arise. It is truly remarkable to see how the fund performs through the ups and down…
  • Make sure you get it in writing. All Vanguard funds are on transaction-fee platform at Fidelity ($50). Additional purchases can be made using their automated purchase feature ($5 per trade). Learned that from @msf awhile back. Selling these share…
  • @Observant1 and @yogibb, Thanks for the info. VDIGX is a fund I invested in for a long time and will continue to do so.
  • Glad to have bonds today in my portfolio. They served nicely as a ballast; the investment grade and treasury bonds went up and floating rate funds stayed flat. Will dollar-cost-average in the rest in coming months given the market is volatile such a…
  • Right now is not the best time to invest in smaller caps and emerging market. TRP must have sizable outflow last year for them to reopen these two closed funds.
  • Market started to fall during the Q&A session when Powell vowed to use all available tools to keep the banking system sound, but reiterated the central bank’s commitment to reining in inflation. He already hinted they are on the verge of pausin…
  • These folks are a tough spot on whether to deal with the inflation while facing with the bank mess ant the same time. Clearly something broke. Even with this 25 bps rate hike, the market sold off for 1%. Guess Powell chose inflation over bank cri…
  • Thank you. Well said. The previous administration was truly a disgrace to those American who die unnecessary.
  • a@yogibb said, CME FedWatch THIS evening is showing these rate changes and probabilities (see image) for the next several FOMCs: +25--+25--hold--cut--cut--, etc. That sounds reasonable as US is approaching the end of the rate hike cycle. So we …
  • I watched that too and her speech was meant to calm the market. That why I ask if there is something else I missed. First Republic Bank got a whole lot more problem than just “run on the bank”. Over the weekend, several large banks pledged $30 b…
  • Wonder if there is other issues with other regional banks that have not been uncovered?
  • Call Bruce representatives to verify the question. Distribution info should be readily available. I presume that is for 2023 tax filing?
  • Thanks for the article. These days it is all about the rating just as Fox News. Talking about journalism malpractice. Senators Warren is spot on and she and a number of Democrats voted against passing the 2018 deregulation on part of regulatory …

  • I am sure Powell is aware of something is broken within the banking system due to the unprecedented rate hike’s magnitude and pace. Clearly, something needs to be redone on the stress test that failed to catch these banks. Senator Elizabeth Warren…

  • The 2018 rollback of the part of Dobb-Frank Act on regulatory examination and stress test contributed to this failure. This supposed to US banks more competitive with other banks in the world. Now we realize that is a mistake. Will any of the execu…
  • @Crash, good article. I like @hank’s idea better to get large bank exposure ( not regional banks) through BRK.
