Considering adding assets to SIGIX, (have invested with them since inception), but am also considering DODEX. DODEX has a short existence, but the Dodge & Cox team is very deep and has a lower ER. SIGIX does have a better track record, but both funds have lower Price/Earnings and Price/Cash Flow ratios relative to domestic funds and ETFs. Comments or thoughts?
Thanks Devo for the link, interesting fund, like the philosophy, would prefer a lower ER but that may come down with time, also would prefer to see more of a team approach but I suspect Pabrai enjoys doing this and will be around for quite a well, l…
Thanks for the tip, I first discovered Mohnish Pabrai in Guy Spier's book "The Education of a Value Investor", worth a read, you can buy online or your library can request it. Thanks again, Lukemon
Thanks to all of you for your comments, I am in DODWX and have been happy, will continue with SIGIX and probably add a small position in DODEX, thanks again for your comments
Good article and discussion, in addition to Keyence for factory automation, Fanuc is one I'm keeping an eye one for robotics, both are a little bit pricey right now to me. Another trend to observe is that China now graduates more engineers than the…
Agree with Hank on Alan Abelson, a master of wit and humor, sadly missed. I read the NYT, WSJ and Barrons. The Value Investor Insight can have an exceptionally good article but they are expensive.
The book is well written and the movie does a good job of explaining the somewhat complex subject of credit defaults. Interesting parallels with China today.
To access the January 2014 article go to the Home page, go to the right, find Issues: long scroll page, select January 2014 and then page down to Voices from the bottom of the well
There is also a very good article in the January 2014 MFO on cash rich funds, with the market hitting new highs these funds mandate a close look. Good luck, Lukemon
Mark, thanks for the article, very good insight into his thought processes, tried to get our local librarian to request a copy of "Margin of Safety" but she just smiled and shook her head, apparently it is widely stolen. Anyway, I truly enjoyed the…
Reminds me of a younger fund manager who decided to liquidate his fund as he could not find any investments that met his requirements. He went onto to do pretty good with a rather small company at the time, called Berkshire Hathaway. Eric, good lu…
Thanks for the posting, I always enjoy his discussions, he admits when he makes a mistake and he also says when he doesn't know the answers, I am going to continue to invest with him, thanks again.
I have received four phone calls and two mailings from Matthews on the proxy voting, this is getting to be too much. Their returns have been good, but it may be time to leave for another fund.
Thanks to Roy, bee and PRESSmUP. I too am in GPROX and GPMCX. Wasatch, Buffalo and Driehaus have been on my radar for a while. Stewart was one I had never heard of but looks very interesting. Vulcan is closed to new investors but I will keep an …
Thanks David, kudos to you and everyone else who helps you put this together every month, it is an extraordinary amount of work, my hat's off to you, thanks, Lukemon
This trend has been going on for decades. Manufacturing, aeronautics, accounting, medicine, even farming are becoming more automated with increased computer systems and robotics. Careers in the future will be ones of programing and design with man…
Ben Graham's book is very good, the Jim Rogers series: Investment Biker, Adventure Capitalist, Street Smarts are entertaining and thought provoking. John Train's Money Masters series on investment managers while a bit old have appeal and insight. …
Vintage freak, expatsp and davidmoran, I have been invested in Fidelity Contrafund with Will Danoff, have enjoyed the fund's performance, though the asset size is considerable. Yacktman is closed, but with the AMG affiliation I am going to wait to …
Thank you all for your comments, ironically I got into Fairholme from a Morningstar post roughly ten years ago that was discussing alternative funds to Sequoia, which was closed for the first time back then, the post discussed Fairholme, which…
