Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Again, I agree. Another disrupter might be the cashing out of stock holdings by the boomer generation as they seek to preserve what they hold.
Other sources have mentioned that most of the rise in the S&P 500 over the last 6 months or so has be…
Yes it's quite possible that other brokerage platforms might offer BIAWX with an NTF option but I'm not interested in opening another account. In fact I've been closing accounts to simplify matters for the eventual takeover by my children.
I did just that @msf in purchasing BIAWX and I also use the $5 automatic buy program but that doesn't allow me to escape the $49.95 fee when considering or attempting to take advantage of opportunistic "buys" on massive down days as we've been exper…
It's my opinion that there are far greater structural deficiencies in the market than COVID-19 and presidential candidate selections. I might be wrong but right now this market is just too goofy for my tastes.
I like concentrated funds as well, it says to me that I am getting the managers best ideas toward pursuing the funds objective(s). I also don't expect a large growth fund to hold too much cash or any bonds unless they are of the convertible type.
A…
"A binary option is a financial product where the buyer receives a payout or loses their investment, based on if the option expires in the money. Binary options depend on the outcome of a "yes or no" proposition, hence the name "binary." Binary opti…
Well I stand partially corrected, however three instances hardly dents the perceived mold. In this particular election I'd prefer that the democrats retake the senate amongst the available outcomes but that may be a mighty stretch.
Yup, agree. Last Friday was a good day to add to my bond holdings. I'll wait for the next bomb or two to hit the market before deploying cash to equities.
@LewisBraham - activist, yes, but he shows no middle ground and I have a hard time believing that the electorate will go for that. One might argue that Warren is an activist as well and she's arguably smarter, more capable and accomplished than he c…
@Crash - I'm as liberal as they come but I just cannot do Bernie. First, he's no democrat except in name He only claimed to be one to run for president in a party where he thought he stood a chance. At best he's an independent but I'm not sure that …
Frankly I think FD is on the right course (at least for him) and I don't think we've seen the worst of it (selling) yet. If you're a long term investor such corrections are to be expected and I wouldn't do anything. If you're short term the last wee…
FD, I agree somewhat with that assessment. It's true that price is what one trades but NAV more accurately demonstrates positioning of the fund or dare I say management capability. Management has little control over the share price (I think) but the…
If I may, while the closing share price for PCI was off -7.6% for the week the NAV price was down by only -1.6%. (For those who don't mingle with CEF's the share price is what other investors are willing to pay you for your share.) So yes, the prem…
So would I sma3. Human health and safety is far more important than politics or the stock market. I'm stall miffed about the heads of NOAA caving in as they did.
@rforno - Doesn't that massive rip higher at the close run counter to the usual condition of wanting to be out of the market over the weekend during times of uncertainty like now for example? Struck me as strange also. It's hard to tell these days w…
I did the same here only with GDX (large gold miners) in contrast to the smalls/juniors (GDXJ). I haven't held a stake in PM's since like forever and I'm tired of listening to rono yell at me all the time.
Thought I'd check recognizing that one weeks performance is meaningless but shows the results of a downturn. So from 2/20/20 - 2/27/20 via M*
AKREX (8.81%)
BIAWX (10.90)
DSEEX (12.01)
MGGPX (10.17)
VFINX (11.66)
The cash has certainly seemed to he…
@johnN - you buy when the charts start to turn up again. Right now they're still running downhill. You may not catch the absolute bottom but you may still come out alright over the long term.
That Value Line allocation fund has held up pretty well so far. I think it's still too early to buy anything however. More manure loaded up to hit the fan.
IOFIX & ICLN on their own. USMV & DGRO when compared to other market indices. It wasn't pretty but they lost less percentage wise and they still pay their dividends.
