Bought LYB yesterday and CBI today. Half position in each. Added to HQL today also. Toying with adding to my PEO position or BGR. Similar but different. Might take a shot at BBL as well.
Over for now:

I hiked back and forth through this area over a dozen times the past two weeks. What a sad, sad situation.
Sectors go through this rotation all the time, from in to out of favor. Does anyone really think it's different this time? Are you still heating your home? Still driving? Is stuff still being transported? Are oil and gas still being used? The only t…
That's an excellent shot of the memorial Mr. Chisum and exactly what it looks like at night. It's hard not to be moved by it. You can go inside during the day to view displays and an eternal flame, and the memorial is patrolled/watched at night by n…
Which of the two main funds would be found in more company 401k plans and by what percentage? Those data might go a long way in explaining the investor return disparities as I would expect that money to be less likely to jump around a lot chasing re…
@Ted - I am not a WSJ online subscriber, at least that I am aware of. I had heard mention of the article and did a Google search myself and linked what I found and was directed to. Take it up with the Internet police.
Re: risk metrics, it's possible that you are only getting 5 years worth because that's all M* offers unless you have a premium membership. Just a hunch.
Hank, I too was looking for a pin hole in msf's argument. The only defense I have so far is that in the example he presents, Jane pays the Roth taxes out of her $10K starting pot rather than from the $2K pot she was foolishly going to use to stock h…
I just turned 65. My Roth is invested rather aggressively but as I built it the intent was to have it generate enough income to cover my day to day living expenses. It does this easily and then some at this juncture. All of the current income is rei…
@Ben - taken from the Tekla website regarding their managed distribution policy:
"The Fund has a managed distribution policy (the Policy) which permits the Fund to make quarterly distributions at a rate of 2% of the Fund's net assets to shareholder…
While I tend to agree that Mr. Domash provides a lot of investing resources on his website I do have to strongly question his recommendations as LLJB noted. Seriously, if that's his takeaway of the MFO site one has to wonder if he ever even bothered…
@finder - HQH and HQL deliver distributions in additional shares unless one specifically requests cash through their broker. Ergo very tax efficient until one decides to sell or donate shares. I don't know the policies for the other two funds you ci…
For me finder, the ability to trade the CEF instantaneously vs waiting for end of day pricing is pretty much it. I checked out the return graph as you did and didn't feel the T Rowe offering outperformed enough to make a change.
About those Vanguard ETF's - one has a yield of 2.9% and the other of 2.01%. If inflation is running at 3% how long will it be before you have to start selling your seed corn in order to keep up?
I wouldn't put people who make automatic investments or withdraw systematically from retirement accounts in the "timing" category. I also don't know what it's like for folks contributing to 401k plans and similar but I believe even those investments…
I'm with Scott on this question, I frankly care very little which way stock prices go as long as the dividends keep rolling in. Market pessimists make some valid points perhaps, but I believe that most market action today is driven by computer progr…
I don't think there is anything special about these, at least no different than a savings account. I suppose you should be clear about who actually owns the account, you or the child, especially as it relates to withdrawals (when, what for, etc. etc…
@Mona - if the proposed RMD changes go through and you reinvest your RMD you wouldn't be taxed on the withdrawn distribution but you would be taxed on the earnings , if any, made by your reinvestment. Under current law those earnings are tax free an…
