Making tactical asset allocation tilts is not market timing.
@golub1, "I might buy call options at a price lower than the current index (an out of the money call)." If the strike is less than the price of the underlying, that call is "IN the money."
They're going to have to prove something before they get my money. I'd much rather entrust my capital with a more talented group of investors at a cheaper rate. Grandeur.
I don't anticipate either of these funds closing soon given that they will be investing up the market cap spectrum in more liquid names, but I think it'll be interesting to see how much money flows in over the next few weeks.
Goldberg didn't say what he meant by getting excited:
Here's what happened to the four outstanding Grandeur Peak funds yesterday (8/24/15):
GPRO 11.81 -0.57 (-4.60%) -
GPGOX 3.01 -0.14 (-4.44%) -
GPIOX 2.93 -0.14 (-4.56%) -

I hold it too, I am going to give it time, considering its record prior to this year. I was in WAGTX and it had become inconsistent, primarily on the fact that so many managing the fund had abandoned ship in 2012 to go over to Grandeur Park and I fe…
My understanding is that the new funds (like the 3 you own) are going to essentially be carve outs of the Global Reach fund. The Micro cap fund is an exception as there may be some newer/different holdings in that fund. The Stalwarts family of funds…
I doubt flows will be much of an issue for the Micro fund. Retail world isn't going to be dominating this one at all, I wouldn't think. I'm assuming there is a large institutional client that will be providing a nice chunk of money for the fund.
An…
Dumb article. Indexing is not active. If you invest in an index fund then you get the return of that index (less small fees). There is nothing active about this. To be active there has to be some potential to outperform the index. My merely investin…
I only came across JOHCM because Robert Cresci joined the firm to run International Small Cap (previously ran at Harding Loevner with a great track record). JOHCM is a firm that has a solid track record of lifting out teams from previous firms. I'm …
JO Hambro looks solid. I do have Robert Cresci's Int'l Small Cap, though. What are people's thoughts on concentration with managers? I know the Int'l Select Fund is run completely separate and JOHambro essentially serves as the parent organization f…
I think a 50/50 split makes a lot of sense. I think so for a couple of reasons:
1) The USD has probably made a good portion of its move already so from a tactical perspective, it makes sense to take some of this bet off the table.
2) Longer-term, I …
Are the Stalwarts funds really going to be SMid-Large focused? Little upsetting if that's true. I understand that Stalwarts implies that the companies will be more mature, but I'd prefer the team still stick to investing in micro to mid caps.....
Anyone heard what GP is thinking as far as capacity now? $3 billion for the firm was extremely conservative, IMO, so I'm not overly concerned about them raising more assets. However, I definitely would like to see them stay under $10 billion, prefer…
I'd be curious to hear what they are thinking about as far as capacity goes for each of the strategies... The previous target was $3 billion for the firm (currently around $2.4). Obviously, we have seen significant capital appreciation since...
The firm will be going away completely by the end of the second quarter. Just wait and see. Obviously, performance of GTIIX wasn't great, but there is a bigger reason.
